Abstract

A laboratory experiment for physical chemistry as an experiment in pure vibrational spectroscopy which uses HC[Cl.sub.3] is presented. The experiment on the subject of infrared, near-infrared, and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy connects physical chemistry with general and organic chemistry concepts of bond strengths and dissociation energies.

Abstract

An attempt is made to trace the development of the class of C-nitroso compounds (in which the -NO group is bound directly to carbon) over a period of 85 years. The findings shed light on the electron reorganization energy, which is responsible for the relatively low activation energy of the NN bond breaking-dissociation reaction.

Abstract

An attempt is made to correlate the strength of the binary acids with molecular properties of the acids for first-year chemistry course. The students gain insight into the H-O bond energies, electron affinities, hydration energy and acid strength.
