Abstract

The stress anisotropy has caused hysteretic switching in mechanical point contacts (PCs) to single ferromagnetic films. Hysteric switching in conductance is measured and the effect is modeled for scale point contacts by using micromagnetic simulations, which has considered the out of plane stress-induced magnetic anisotropy in the point contact region.

Abstract

Magnetic multilayers are known to exhibit magnetization excitations, which are due to exchange fields produced by densely distributed spin-polarized electron currents. The microscopic mechanism of the single interface spin-torque effect is investigated by measuring diffusive and ballistic contacts for various material combinations and the possible origin of the observed hysteresis is discussed.
