An analysis of the annular induction MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) generator is carried out for a model employing a finite‐length winding and a constant‐velocity fluid flowing in the annulus. An expression for the phase impedance is derived which accounts for entrance and exit of the fluid into the winding region. Impedance characteristics are presented which allow comparison with the infinite‐length case in terms of dimensionless parameters.
