Information about several papers discussed at a symposium during the American Society of Animal Science Southern Section annual meeting, held on February 6, 2012, in Birmingham, Alabama, on beef cattle production, is presented. Topics include stocker cattle production models, physiology of newly received calves, and nutrition and management practices to enhance calf health. The symposium featured several experts on animal science including Curt Lacy, Darrell Rankins, and Clint Krehbiel.
