Structural and magnetic properties of pseudo-binary compounds CrAs1-xPx (0≤x≤1) with the MnP-type structure have been studied by X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and differential thermal analysis. For the compounds with x=0 and 0.03, the lattice parameters a and c increase abruptly, and b and v (unit cell volume) decrease abruptly at 265 and 110 K, respectively, which are considered to correspond to the Néel temperature (TN), as temperature increases. Magnetic susceptibility of all the prepared compounds shows feasible temperature dependence at temperatures from 4.2 to 300 K. The decrease of TN with x is discussed based on the x dependence of lattice parameters. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

New superconducting intermetallic compounds with a chemical formula of MRhGe2 (M=Zr, Hf) were discovered, and their crystallographic, magnetic, and electric properties were investigated. MRhGe2 crystallizes in an orthorhombic TiMnSi2 structure of space group Pbam and shows a superconducting transition at about 3 K. The magnetic susceptibility measurement indicated bulk superconductivity of MRhGe2. The superconducting parameters of MRhGe2 (M=Zr, Hf) indicate that they are type-II superconductors in the category of the BCS theory. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The occurrence of ferromagnetism was investigated in the Laves-phase compounds Mn1−xMxBe2 (M=Co, Ni, Cu) and MnBe2−xMx (M=Cu, B, Al) through magnetization measurements. The magnetic susceptibility is enhanced when Mn is replaced by Co and shows a maximum at about x=0.6. Ferromagnetic behavior is observed for specimens with a Co content of 0.3

Trivalent rare-earth (RE = Eu, Sm) doped transparent nano-glass–ceramics comprising BaYF 5 nanocrystals were successfully obtained by appropriate heat-treatment of the corresponding precursor sol–gel glasses. Their structural and spectroscopic properties were investigated and compared with those for Eu 3+ -doped-BaYF 5 nanocrystals prepared by a solvothermal method. X-ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy measurements confirmed the distribution of BaYF 5 nanocrystals in the glass matrix, presenting a cubic phase structure with space group Fm - 3m . In order to achieve a further structural characterization, the luminescence properties of the Eu 3+ and Sm 3+ dopants were also used as sensitive probes. The reduction in the emission intensities of hypersensitive transitions 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 and 4 G 5/2 → 6 H 9/2 for Eu 3+ and Sm 3+ ions respectively, along with time-resolved measurements, confirm the distribution of a significant fraction of RE ions into the fluoride nanocrystal environment. These results suggest that BaYF 5 nano-glass–ceramics doped with Eu 3+ or Sm 3+ can be considered as potential red-emitting phosphors for the development of white LEDs under near UV excitation. Seebeck coefficient, electrical resistivity, and magnetization measurements have been made on Fe3-xVxSi alloys with 0.6≤x≤1 in comparison with those of Fe3-xVxAl. Negative large values of the Seebeck coefficient are observed which indicates that the electronic state of Fe3-xVxSi is likely semimetallic. The concentration dependence of the Seebeck coefficient on the vanadium content at 200 and 500 K is consistent with the developing process of the pseudogap formation and the enhancement of the Fermi energy. Magnetization curves of Fe2.20V0.80Si at low temperatures show a ferromagnetic character and indicate the Curie temperature being between 100 and 200 K, while we observed positive temperature coefficient of the electrical resistivity up to room temperature in contrast with those of Fe3-xVxAl.
