A quantitative analysis of scientific articles published in the Journal of Agrometeorology (JAM) between 2008 and 2022 was conducted using SCOPUS database and a variety of scientometric indicators. Various metrics were utilized to examine aspects including yearly research output, highly referenced sources, author rankings, contributions and profiles, cooperation trends, highly contributing nations, most cited papers, commonly searched keywords and worldwide collaboration mapping. This study employs biblioshiny for analysis and only looks at data that is available in Scopus database. With an h-index (17), a g-index (21) and 3238 total citations across the study period, the journal demonstrated considerable influence. With the greatest number of research publications (n=46) and the greatest number of citations (236), Pandey V stands out among other authors. In terms of the number of papers and citations, India emerged as the leading nation, with the Punjab Agricultural University in the lead with 744 publications. Four clusters were found by co-citation network analysis, with Allen RG being the most quoted author among them. The study also highlighted the fact that Indian authors worked together the most. This analysis is important for assessing the influence of the JAM and offers insightful information about noteworthy research trends and developments in the scientific community. A long-term experiment was conducted during kharif seasons of2013 to 2020 at AICRP on Agrometeorology, VNMKV, Parbhani, to study the crop-weather relationship of soybean grown under four environments (27th SMW, 28th SMW, 29th SMW and 30th SMW) with three soybean varieties (MAUS-158, MAUS-71, and JS-335). Results indicated that soybean yield was significantly highest in (1541.4 kg ha-1) in the early sown crop, and it decreased with delay in sowing with the lowest yield (803.8 kg ha-1). Among the cultivars, MAUS-158 produced significantly the highest yield (1321.3 kg ha-1). Correlation analysis between weather parameters during different phases with the yield revealed that the vegetative and grain formation period of soybean were found to be the most sensitive to weather parameters, as the correlation coefficients with most of the weather parameters. Rainfall, number of rainy days, humidity and soil moisture had favorable effects while temperatures and sunshine duration had negative effects on the yield of soybean in the Marathwada region. Individual weather parameters during 50% flowering to maturity period could explain 40 to 55% variation in the soybean yield while the multiple regression developed all weather parameters during grain formation to physiological maturity period could explain up to 82% variation which could be used the predict the soybean yield in Marathwada region. Jute crop cultivated in Cooch Behar suffers a substantial amount of physical and economical loss every year due to several major insect pest infestation such as Yellow Mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks) and Jute Semilooper (Anomis sabulifera Guen). Constructed seasonal plots reveal that for Yellow Mite pest incidence is maximum at 55 DAS, while for Jute Semi Looper it is at 45 DAS. Correlation analysis indicate that the weather parameters such as minimum temperature at current week, maximum RH at one week lag, minimum temperature, minimum and maximum RH at two-week lag are significantly correlated with the incidence of Yellow Mite, while in case of Jute Semilooper maximum temperature, minimum and maximum RH at two-week lag are significantly correlated. Different forecasting models like ARIMA, ARIMAX, SARIMA, SARIMAX and SVR have been fitted and validated using RMSE and RMdSE values. While ARIMAX and SARIMAX are found to be the best fitted model for Yellow Mite and Jute Semilooper respectively, following successful model validation, forecasting is done for the year 2022. A field experiment was conducted during Rabi season of two consecutive years 2016-17 and 2017-18 at research farm, Department of Agricultural Meteorology, CCSHAU, Hisar under sub-tropical environment of Haryana. DSSAT (v4.7) family of SUBSTOR module was employed to simulate the comparison of observed values with simulated values under field conditions with a view to a view to assess the performance of model. The model was calibrated for (2016-17) and derived their genetic coefficient and further outputs were validated for second year (2017-18) experiments. Calibration and validation were done on crop grown under four planting dates viz. 8th Oct. (D1), 22th Oct. (D2), 5th Nov. (D3) and 23rd Nov (D4) in main plot treatment and sub-plots treatments consisted of three varieties Kufri Bahar (V1), Kufri Pushkar (V2) and Kufri Surya (V3) were tested in split plot design with four replications. The results affirms that model overestimated the phenology (days to tuber initiation and physiological maturity) and growth and yield parameters like accumulation of maximum LAI, tuber and biological yield. The model's simulation performance was found satisfactory, and the model overestimated with fair agreement (±10). Performance of model tested with help of Mean absolute error (MAE), Mean bias error (MBE), Root mean square error (RMSE), r (correlation) and PE (Percent error). All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) of ICAR has started the micro-level Agromet Advisory Service (AAS) through its 25 cooperative centers across the country. Micro-level advisory based on weather forecast is the newer dimension of the AAS in the country. Studies on economic impact of these micro-level advisories are uncommon. Therefore, the present study was conducted using the field survey to assess the farmer's perception and economic impact of micro-level AAS in Vijayapura and Anantapur centers on pilot basis. Two groups i.e. AAS and non-AAS farmers, consisting of 40 farmers in each group were selected through multi-stage stratified random sampling technique. The probit regression model was employed to assess the factors influencing willingness to pay (WTP) for AAS. Majority of farmers (65%) rated micro-level AAS as 'very good' on scale of 'very poor' to 'very good'. Majority of non-AAS farmers were aware about micro-level AAS but lagged in adopting the service. It needs further detailed investigation of underlying causes of not adopting the service. Farming experience, education, land holding size and income were found to be most important factors influencing the farmer's willingness for pay-based services. Results of economic impact revealed that there was 12 to 33 per cent increase in profit for AAS farmers as compared to non-AAS farmers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, in many parts of the country, indebtedness, crop failures, unpaid prices and poor returns have resulted in agrarian distress. The government has identified and introduced several programs to address these critical issues viz. crop insurance, lending waivers etc. among them. Crop insurance as a concept for risk management in agriculture has emerged in India since the turn of the twentieth century and government has launched various insurance schemes in last three decades like Comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme (CCIS), National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and Modified NAIS (MNAIS) etc. Apart from these schemes, several other pilot projects such as Seed Crop Insurance, Farm Income Insurance Scheme and Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) were implemented from time to time. At present, two most important schemes are functional i.e. Pradhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojna (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) are in operation. This study focused on the performance of the Restructured Weather based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) from historical and analytical perspectives and presents recommendation for future scenarios. Firstly, weather data related issues by designing a modern scientific approach to develop high resolution secondary data and secondly, modifying the existing design of RWBCIS Products, based on sound agronomic principles. Actual evapotranspiration (AET), grain yield and water productivity (WPET) of rice and wheat were assessed in relation to changing climatic conditions over a period of 32-46 years for three locations (Ballowal Saunkhari, Ludhiana and Bathinda) in different agro-climatic regions of Punjab. A large variability in AET of rice and wheat were observed over the years with increasing trend at Ballowal Saunkhari and decreasing trend at Ludhiana and Bathinda. A linear increase in grain yield of rice and wheat was observed at all the three locations. This resulted a significant increasing trends in water productivity of both wheat and rice at all the stations. The water productivity of rice was negatively correlated with AET while water productivity of wheat had curvilinear relationship with AET. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soil moisture information has not been used extensively under PAN India mode operationally in the country due to sparse network of soil moisture measuring stations. Effort has been made to estimate the soil moisture using gridded rainfall data using soil water balance (SWB) model and subsequently to compare quantitatively with insitu soil moisture measured by gravimetric method. It is observed from the quantitative validation with ground observations that during monsoon season the accuracy with the observed was found to be fairly accurate from the early part of the July to the end of monsoon when the soil was almost recharged with the rainfall. One of the limiting factors is that during dry period and in the low rainfall areas accuracy is relatively low. Thus, the soil moisture information generated using gridded rainfall data can be used from the second month (July) of monsoon season to the end of the monsoon season on PAN India mode for irrigation scheduling and determination of sowing dates and for contingency crop planning etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thermal heat requirement as well as energy components depend on weather parameters. Critical phenological stages was taken into consideration for the thermal heat requirement during 2013-15 under fertigation treatment (25, 50 and 75 per cent of recommended fertilizer dose) in mango cv Dashehari at Lucknow region. Mango productivity varied from 4.54-11.84 t ha-1 across different fertigation regimes as a result of differential thermal heat accumulation. In the treatment 25 per cent RDF, productivity of 5.23, 11.13 and 6.12 t ha-1 was recorded during 2013, 2014 and 2015 while in 50 per cent RDF, 6.23, 11.84 and 7.76 t ha-1 was observed. The maximum yield reduction (37.5, 14 and 26.1%) was found in control plot. A significant variation in radiation energy received during the field experiment was revealed and a range of 8.97 to 16.27 mm day-1 extraterrestrial radiation was observed at different critical phenological stages. The heat use efficiency (HUE) varied between 2.54-6.78 g m-2°Cd-1 across seasons and treatments. Water use efficiency (WUE) of 10.8, 14.1, 13.5 and 11.7 kg fruits m-3 was recorded in different fertigated treatments. The highest reduction in WUE was noted in control (23.9%) followed by 17.2 and 4.8% in 25 and 50 per cent as compared to 75 per cent fertigation regimes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, asite-specific radiation based equation for estimating reference evapotranspiration (ET0) was developed and its performance was statistically analysed in comparison to widely accepted FAO Penman-Monteith (FAO-56 PM) model and four radiation-based ET0 methods for sub-humid Hazaribagh region of Jharkhand state. The equation was developed with daily values of incoming solar radiation in conjunction with air temperature (minimum and maximum) by considering daily FAO-56 PM ET0 values as index with weather dataset of 15 years (1990-2004). The performance of developed equation validated with eight years (2005-2012) daily weather dataset revealed that it estimated ET0 values better than other radiation-based methods. The respective higher and lower values of agreement index and root mean square error with FAO-56 PM ET0 values during validation period confirms efficacy of developed equation whose performance tested at another Indian sub-humid location (Pantnagar) confirmed its suitability as well. Considering the limitations associated with reliability and availability of weather data especially in developing countries, developed equation is recommended as practical one to estimate ET0 in sub-humid climatic conditions if FAO-56 PM model cannot be used due to non-availability of required weather parameters at a location. It mentions that Sivakumar obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in India and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Agricultural Climatology from the Iowa State University. It also mentions that Sivakumar established collaboration with the International Geosphere Biosphere Program (IGBP) in conducting climate change research.
