2. Hardening of (Ba0.5Na0.5)0.85Ba0.15TiO3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics by adding (Bi0.5Na0.5)MnO3.

Abstract

The hardening of (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.85Ba0.15TiO3 (BNBT15) piezoelectric ceramics was investigated by adding raw materials with Bi0.5Na0.5MnO3 (BNM). BNBT15-BNM exhibited a single phase of BNBT15. BNM acts as a sintering aid for BNBT15 to produce domain pinning, and produces tetragonality based on BaTiO3 for increased stability. BNBT15-BNM hardens piezoelectric material with low Mn content, increasing the coercive field and mechanical quality factor. The mechanical quality factor of BNBT15-BNM (0.75 wt%) exceeded 1200. In high-power conditions, BNBT15-BNM (0.75 wt%) exhibited a vibration velocity twice that of hard-PZT. The quality factor gradually decreased with a high vibration velocity. The equivalent stiffness slightly decreased with strain, and the mechanical nonlinearity was much less than that of hard-PZT. BNBT15-BNM (0.75 wt%) has superior high-power properties, and is expected to be a candidate material for use in lead-free piezoelectric ceramics in high-power applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

4. Investigation of the crystal-oriented behavior of rare earth substituted Sr2NaNb5O15lead-free piezoelectric materials under a high magnetic field

Abstract

The crystal-orientation behavior of Sr2NaNb5O15(SNN) lead-free piezoelectric materials under a magnetic field was investigated by substituting rare-Earth elements (Ln = Nd, Eu, Ho, Yb), which were selected based on their ionic radii and magnetic or non-magnetic ions. The magnetic ions, Nd, Ho, and Yb, did not affect the magnetic anisotropy of the SNN. The nonmagnetic ions (Eu3+) changed from the a, b-axis orientation to the c-axis orientation in the direction of the magnetic field. The Eu-substituted SNN powders revealed that the degree of orientation of the c-axis increased as the Eu content increased. Consequently, c-axis-oriented Eu-substituted SNN ceramics were obtained with the degree of orientation of 0.9. The diamagnetism along the a, b-axis became larger than that along the c-axis owing to a decrease in the c-axis lattice constant. By substituting Eu with SNN, the piezoelectric properties decreased as the hardening of SNN progressed.

6. High-power properties of (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15 piezoelectric ceramics in a longitudinal mode.

Abstract

The high-power properties of (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15 (SCNN) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were investigated in a longitudinal mode using their rectangular column modified electrode patterns. It was hard to rise the SCNN temperature with increasing vibration velocity and we were able to drive with about a two times higher vibration velocity than that of hard-PZT. The quality factor of SCNN gradually decreased with the vibration velocity and increased with the temperature. The equivalent stiffness of SCNN was almost constant with increasing strain and there was no mechanical nonlinearity, however those of hard-PZT decreased significantly with vibration velocity and strain for the softening effect as mechanical nonlinearity. SCNN has also a positive temperature dependence of quality factor and equivalent stiffness similar in a radial vibration mode. It was clarified that the high-power properties of SCNN in a longitudinal mode had superior performance such as that of the radial vibration mode. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

10. High-power properties of crystal-oriented (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15 piezoelectric ceramics and their application to ultrasonic motors.

Abstract

The high-power properties of c-axis crystal-oriented (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15 (SCNN) plate were investigated under large-amplitude vibration using an electrical transient response. The ultrasonic motor of a 31-vibration mode using the crystal-oriented SCNN plate was fabricated and evaluated. The quality factor of crystal-oriented SCNN plate increased to about five times higher of randomly oriented SCNN and (Bi,Na,Ba)(Ti,Mn)O3 disks. The mechanical nonlinearity behavior was not observed and the temperature dependences of the quality factor and the equivalent stiffness decreased ignorable. The high-power properties were considered to originate from decreasing strictly the internal stress induced from crystal anisotropy by the crystal-oriented morphology. The motor showed the revolution speed 100 rpm in torque from 150 μN m to 900 μN m, the output power 7.5 mW, efficiency 3.5% at 657 μN m and 109 rpm. The output power was about twotimes higher in the previous study. The performance reflects the superior high-power properties of crystal-oriented SCNN ceramics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. High-Power Piezoelectric Characteristics of $C$-Axis Crystal-Oriented (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15Ceramics

Abstract

The high-power piezoelectric characteristics of $c$-axis crystal-oriented (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15(SCNN) ceramics were studied by the constant-motional-current driving method, and compared with those of the randomly oriented ceramics superior to those of hard Pb(Ti,Zr)O3(PZT) ceramics. The $c$-axis crystal-oriented SCNN ceramic showed a large Lotgering factor of 0.98. The effective piezoelectric constant $d_{33}^{*}$ was 260 pm/V, as large as those of hard PZT ceramics. In the 31-mode of the rectangular plate, the quality factor, $Q$, was five times larger than that of the randomly oriented ceramic, and almost constant at approximately 3300 up to the maximum vibration velocity of 1.84 m/s rms. The resonant frequency change was also stable up to a vibration velocity of 1.84 m/s rms. The change was approximately +0.05% in the driving range, which was much smaller than that of +0.8% of the randomly oriented ceramic. The high-power piezoelectric characteristics were also clarified by a comparison with the mechanical characteristics. Therefore, the highly $c$-axis crystal-oriented SCNN ceramics are good candidates for high-power piezoelectric applications in comparison with hard PZT ceramics.

40. Theory of Dysprosium L3XANES Free from L3Core Lifetime Broadening

Abstract

The excitation spectrum of the L3M5X-ray emission of Dy3+system in the pre-edge region of Dy L3XANES is theoretically investigated based upon a coherent second order optical formula with multiplet coupling effect. The spectral broadening of the excitation spectrum is determined by the M5core hole lifetime, being free from the L3core hole lifetime. The fine pre-edge structure of L3edge due to L3N6,7quadrupole transition can be seen in the excitation spectrum, while this structure is invisible in the conventional XANES. The conditions for the excitation spectrum to be regarded as the absorption spectrum with a smaller width are discussed.

Abstract

This paper describes the fabrication of 0.2 µ m hole resist patterns in KrF excimer laser lithography. By using a SiNxsingle-layer halftone phase-shifting mask (PSM) and an in-house chemically amplified positive resist, 0.2 µ m hole resist patterns can be obtained with sufficient depth of focus (DOF). Furthermore, a 0.15 µ m hole resist pattern can also be fabricated by using the PSM.
