This paper explores, based on literature review and case analysis, the key success factors in the formation of alliances. Its contribution rest on the identification of practical insights, namely: (i) formal processes of alliance management; (ii) formal mechanisms of alliance learning; (iii) teams responsible for the life cycle of the alliance (beginning to end); and (iv) the existence of an empowered alliance office. The purpose of the research is to empirically investigate the impact of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices on organization's performance—operational, environmental, and financial. The paper also aims to theorize and empirically assess a comprehensive GSCM practices and performance model. The data from a national sample of 161 company managers working for Indian manufacturing organizations participating in green supply chain is analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) methodology. Hypotheses are formulated for linkages between GSCM practices and organizational performance. The results of hypotheses testing show that there is a positive relationship between GSCM practices and organization's performances. All these performances in turn enhance the overall organizational performance. The findings may prove to be effective in inducing Indian firms to adopt GSCM practices for improving their performances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and fierce global competition have persuaded all kinds of manufacturers to integrate supply chain management practices to achieve superior organizational performance. However, most of the supply chain management planning and strategies could not achieve the desired outcomes due to the lack of knowledge of the existing level of supply chain concerns prevailing in their organizations. With the help of a survey conducted among the executives of manufacturing industries in the Union Territory of Puducherry, this paper examines the current supply chain concerns in manufacturing industries using principal component analysis, K-mean cluster and discriminant analysis. Supply chain concerns have been categorized into supply chain coherence, geographical proximity and competition-oriented concerns, and manufacturing units have been segmented into low, medium and high supply chain concern industries. Vendor base rationalization is a crucial element of overall supplier relationship management strategy as it not only aligns but also synergizes the competencies, resulting in a win-win situation for both supplier and buyer. This is done by managing the supplier base in an effective manner by identifying and selecting suppliers for strategic long-term partnerships, involving them in early design phase of the product or new processes, allocating resources to enhance supplier performance by providing them the necessary and relevant benchmarks and continuous feedbacks. Rationalization of the supplier base requires one to create quantifiers which monitor vendor's performance and create a platform to evaluate their progress in terms of buyer's strategic objective. In today's global market place, as individual firms working as a part of an integrated Supply Chain Management (SCM) system no longer compete as independent entities, the key to improved performance of a firm is its managerial ability to integrate and coordinate the intricate network of business relationships among Supply Chain (SC) partners. In this context, analysis of the impact of an integrated SC on business performance has assumed significance due to the emergence of information-empowered customers demanding greater responsiveness, and existence of competitive global rivals imposing increased cost and reduced profit. In this paper, the existing SCM models and methodologies classified under ten different categories have been critically reviewed leading to identification of several potential areas of research in SCM. A research framework involving the identified research issues has been proposed. Also highlighted are the benefit and usefulness of such a framework in a systematic approach for SCM. 7. Relationship Between Supply Chain Integration and Organizational Performance: An Empirical Study.

This study aims to demonstrate the link between Supply Chain Integration (SCI) and organizational performance. The data was collected using survey method from 70 small and medium enterprises in Belgaum district, state of Karnataka, India. Utilizing Pearson's correlation coefficient, the link between independent and dependent variables was examined. To find variables in SCI dimensions that predict organizational performance variables, linear regression analysis was used. The results show a positive correlation between dimensions of SCI and organizational performance. Internal and customer integration show a moderate correlation with operational performance. Customer Integration (CI) with business performance also shows a moderate correlation. While there is no link between Internal Integration (II) and Operational Performance (OP), Supplier Integration (SI) exhibits a minimal correlation with both operational and Business Performance (BP). Customer integration is the SCI component that most strongly predicts both organizational performance aspects. Operational performance is predicted by internal integration; however, supplier integration does not predict any aspect of organizational performance. The findings of this study will advance the body of knowledge in the field of supply chain management with regard to organizational performance and SCI variables, both of which have previously been examined by many researchers from an Indian viewpoint. Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices are a set of activities undertaken to promote effective and efficient management of supply chains in the industries. These practices include supplier partnership, physical movement of goods, meeting customer demands and also information sharing throughout the supply chain. Some of the key logistics and SCM practices which impact the supply chain performance are related to estimation of customer needs, efficient and effective delivery, integration and collaboration throughout the supply chain, sharing of information and vision by using Information Communication Technology (ICT). All these practices impact logistics and supply chain performance. Logistics focuses on activities inside a company, while supply chain focuses on relationship between each company.
