- Abstract
The objective of the following paper is to understand Guarani Education by showing similarities between the values within Traditional Guarani Education and the theoretical concepts that found Education within human rights. It tries to identify similarities between cultural experiences and theoretical discussions by understanding that knowledge considered"popular" complement the academic one. The study was performed in two Indian villages, one in llha da Cotinga in Parana (PR) and the other in Santa Catarina (SC). The theoretical and methodological reference are found in the Popular Education and Culture History presuppositions. The study had the contribution of bilingual native teachers and community leaders - shamans, chieftains, artisans - as subjects and coauthors. Initially, the authors display the Guarani people cultural experiences as the core of the theoretical discussion regarding how Education within Human Rights takes place, as it has been happening for thousands of years, in their social interactions. There is an educational process moved by the spiritual-materialistic life principles as well as by the survival instinct of such people along with their culture, taking place in their cultural experience. The study results are intended to minimize cultural gaps and overcome obstacles such as the language and non-natives different time dimension. The conclusion refers to the need of knowing this and other native cultures in order to share different knowledge due to the fact they are complementary as well as the possibility of an alternative kind of education.
