Introduction and hypothesis: Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) and the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) are reliable instruments for evaluating the quality of life in women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). They have been translated and validated in many languages. The study was aimed at validating the Estonian translations of the PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 tools. Methods: The questionnaires were translated into Estonian using a multistep translation method. A total of 132 women were enrolled: patients with diagnosed POP (n=57) were allocated to test–retest reliability analyses, and those with no POP signs (n=88) completed the questionnaire only once. The total scores of questionnaires and their subscales of both patient and reference groups were compared. Item response rate, floor and ceiling effects, corrected item–total correlations, internal consistency, and convergent and discriminant validity were analyzed. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Human Research of the University Clinic of Tartu, Estonia, and informed consent was obtained from each participant. Results: The translated questionnaires demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's α values 0.77–0.93). The item response rate was 99%. Intra-class correlations (ICC) were strong for PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 and their subscales ranged from 0.86 to 0.96. Construct validity of the tools demonstrated by manyfold higher scores among patients with POP compared with women without POP (p<0.0001). Introduction and hypothesis: The German "Pelvic Floor Questionnaire for pregnant and postpartum women" is a self-administered questionnaire customized for pregnancy and the postpartum period that assesses four domains of pelvic floor function regarding perceived symptoms, suffering, and impact on quality of life: bladder, bowel, prolapse, and sexual function. No similar questionnaire is available in Swedish, despite a high prevalence of pregnancy and postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction. Thus, we aimed to translate the validated German questionnaire into Swedish and test its validity and reliability in a Swedish population. Methods: Translation and cultural adaptation were performed according to guidelines. Of the 248 women who answered the Swedish questionnaire, 57 filled out the questionnaire twice to evaluate test-retest reliability. We also assessed internal consistency and discriminant validity. Results: The Swedish version of the questionnaire showed good face and content validity. Cronbach's alpha was in the acceptable to excellent range (bladder 0.82, bowel 0.78, prolapse 0.91, and sexual 0.83), showing adequate internal consistency. A comparison of means (≥ 1 point) showed that the questionnaire significantly (p < 0.05) distinguished between women who reported suffering and those who did not. Cohen's kappa for all individual items showed fair to almost perfect agreement (0.24–0.87) between test and retest scores. The intraclass correlation coefficients for domain scores (0.92–0.97) were all in an optimal range. Conclusions: The Swedish version of the questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing pelvic floor disorders, symptom severity, and impact on quality of life during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Introduction and hypothesis: Vaginal laxity (VL) can impair women´s quality of life and there are not many tools aimed at quantitatively addressing this complaint. Sexual distress can be present within this group of patients. The aim of our study is to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation/translation and validation of the Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised (FSDS-R) for Brazilian Portuguese women with VL. Methods: Women age ≥ 18 years, with VL (n=82), and without VL (n=53) were included. Continuous variables were described in the form of mean/standard deviation or median/range, and Student's t test was used. The Chi-squared test was used for dichotomous variables. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used for internal consistency and Spearman's correlation was used to assess construct validity (FSDS-R, Female Sexual Function Index [FSFI], and Incontinence Questionnaire Vaginal Symptoms [ICIQ-VS]). A significance level of 5% was established using a two-tailed test. Results: Women with VL presented more anal/vaginal sexual intercourse than women without VL (p=0.030). All three instruments (FSDS-R, FSFI, and ICIQ-VS) presented discriminant validity between women with and without VL (p<0.001). A high internal consistency (Cronbach´s alpha =0.887) was found in women with VL and without VL (0.917). Regarding construct validity (n=82), there was a strong positive correlation between FSDS-R score and ICIQ-VS scales, except for a weaker correlation between the ICIQ-VS vaginal symptoms subscale (r: +0.2788; p=0.013). A moderate negative correlation was found between FSDS-R and all FSFI domains (p<0.001), except for pain (p<0.062). Conclusions: The Brazilian version of the FSDS-R showed adequate internal consistency and discriminant validity, and a correlation was found with other instruments such as FSFI and ICIQ-VS. Introduction and hypothesis: The aim of this study was to verify whether the Chinese version of the self-administered Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (APFQ) can assess the changes in symptoms over a long time period (responsiveness) and to verify the reliability and validity of the questionnaire after 3 years of follow-up. Methods: The questionnaire was completed by 146 women using the WeChat platform after 3 years of follow-up. Reliability was assessed through internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha). Construct validity was evaluated by significantly distinguished differences in symptom scores between women who did and did not subjectively suffer bothersome symptoms. Responsiveness was evaluated in 146 women. The effect size (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM) were used to assess the degree of responsiveness. Results: Of the 146 women, all completed the questionnaire through the WeChat platform without missing any items. Reliability, Cronbach's alpha for the four domains and total APFQ were: bladder function 0.78, bowel function 0.71, pelvic organ prolapse 0.78, sexual function 0.68 and total APFQ 0.84. Concerning construct validity, the APFQ significantly distinguished the symptom scores between women who did and did not subjectively suffer from bothersome symptoms, and the score difference was 1.1–1.6 points, 1.2 points, 2.0–3.7 points and 1.4 points, respectively. For responsiveness, three domains showed slight (bowel domain) to moderate (bladder domain, sex domain) sensitivity to change. ES and SRM ranged from 0.21 to 0.75 and 0.16 to 0.60, respectively. Introduction and hypothesis: The Prolapse and Incontinence Knowledge Questionnaire (PIKQ) was developed and validated to assess women's knowledge regarding etiology, diagnosis and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI). We aimed to translate and validate a Thai version of the PIKQ to use as a tool to evaluate knowledge of POP and UI among Thai-speaking women. Methods: The English PIKQ, which comprises the PIKQ-POP and PIKQ-UI sections, was translated into Thai. Psychometric properties of the final version of the Thai PIKQ were tested for content validity, construct validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability among 168 women attending a gynecology clinic and 150 nurses. Results: Regarding content validity of the final Thai PIKQ, the number of missing items was 0. Participants in the nurse group were more likely than those in the patient group to select the correct answer for all items for the POP scale and UI scale (P < 0.001). For internal consistency testing, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.745 for the PIKQ-POP and 0.754 for the PIKQ-UI scales, suggesting that the items had relatively high internal consistency. The item-total correlation values ranged from 0.204 to 0.539, showing an adequate correlation of each item with the scale overall. The correlation coefficients between the test and retest for PIKQ-POP and PIKQ-UI were 0.685 and 0.735, respectively (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The Thai PIKQ is a simple instrument which shows good validity and high reliability and could be a useful tool for assessing knowledge regarding POP and UI in clinical practice. Introduction and hypothesis: The Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (OAB-q) measures overactive bladder patients' severity of symptoms and their impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of this study was to validate the OAB-q in Greek patients with overactive bladder and report clinical implications of the disease. Methods: In total, 107 patients were recruited consecutively in our clinic. They completed the OAB-q and Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) twice, 3 months apart. Simultaneously, they initiated lifestyle changes and drug therapy. The reliability of OAB-q was estimated by its internal consistency (Cronbach's α). Validity was estimated by criterion validity and concurrent validity by comparison with SF-36. Results: The sample's mean age was 62.1 years, and 74.8% were women. Cronbach's α exceeded the 0.7 threshold in all OAB-q subscales, implying good reliability of internal consistency for the OAB-q. In addition, moderate (Pearson's r > 0.3) or strong (r > 0.5) correlations were observed between OAB-q subscales and the relevant SF-36 subscales, implying concurrent validity. Clinically, urgency incontinence affected symptom bother (p = 0.001), concern/worry (p = 0.031) and social interaction (p = 0.027). Nocturia had the largest impact on HRQoL in patients with overactive bladder, as it affected all the OAB-q subscales (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The Greek version of the OAB-q has shown strong psychometric properties of reliability and validity in our study. Urgency incontinence and especially nocturia seem to affect the HRQoL of patients with overactive bladder. Introduction and hypothesis: Previously, there was no specific questionnaire in the Polish language for overall assessment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in women. The aim of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate Polish versions of the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire on Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF, short and long forms) for use in clinical practice and research in Poland. Methods: The original English ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF were adapted to Polish according to international standards and recommended procedures. Adult women with LUTS who were seen at the Department of Urology at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland, completed the ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF at baseline and 2 weeks later. Control participants completed the questionnaires once. Validity and reliability were determined. Results: One hundred and eighty Polish-speaking women who had LUTS completed the questionnaires. Content validity was high. Significant differences between women with LUTS and controls for both ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF confirmed optimal construct validity. An intercorrelation analysis revealed that internal consistency was good for ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF (Cronbach's alpha >0.7). Test–retest reliability (reproducibility) demonstrated strong stability (intraclass correlation coefficient > 0.7). Floor and ceiling effects were absent from women with LUTS, whereas a floor effect was detected in the control group. Conclusions: The Polish ICIQ-FLUTS and ICIQ-FLUTS LF are valid, reliable, and consistent measures of overall evaluation of LUTS in women. Introduction and hypothesis: We aimed to assess the validity and reliability of two Danish versions of the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) in a female population. We hypothesized that the questionnaires had good predictive validity, internal consistency, patient-physician agreement, construct validity, test-retest reliability, and sensitivity to change. Methods: To test the predictive validity, we compared the ICIQ-UI SF to urodynamics (n = 153). The same answers were used for testing the internal consistency. The patient-physician agreement was assessed by comparing the self-administered questionnaire with a physician's evaluation based on telephone interviews (n = 60). To test the construct validity, we calculated the proportion of scores ≥ 1 in questionnaires completed by women defining themselves as "not suffering from involuntary urination" (n = 69). Test-retest reliability was assessed by comparing questionnaires completed twice with an interval of 2 weeks (n = 186). Sensitivity to change was evaluated by analyzing answers before and after treatment for women treated surgically for stress urinary incontinence (n = 755) and with botulinum type A toxin for overactive bladder (n = 63). Results: Predictive validity: 26.6–27.6% agreement. Internal consistency: Cronbach's alpha: 0.7–0.8. Patient-physician agreement: 53.9–92.9% agreement. Some interview participants misunderstood the word "leak." Construct validity: 19% and 23% had a total score ≥ 1. Test-retest reliability: 77.0–95.7% agreement. Sensitivity to change: Significantly lower score after treatment. Conclusion: The ICIQ-UI SF had excellent internal consistency, patient-physician agreement, test-retest reliability, and sensitivity to change. The ICIQ-UI SF had questionable predictive validity and construct validity compared to urodynamic testing. We recommend precaution in diagnostics or research based solely on the questionnaire. Introduction and hypothesis: This study was to translate and validate self-reported questionnaires, the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) and the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) into Sinhala, the language spoken by the majority of Sri Lankans. Methods: A total of 270 patients were enrolled in this study. Two groups were selected with pelvic organ prolapse (POP)—cases and without POP—controls in a ratio of 1:2 respectively. Psychometric properties of the questionnaires were assessed using content validity, face validity, convergent validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and reliability. Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q) was used as the test to quantify POP. Results: Excellent content validity was demonstrated by a content validity ratio for all items by experts. Face validity was confirmed by non-experts using a five-point Likert scale and Mann–Whitney U test for all items. Internal consistency was found to be high for both questionnaires (Cronbach's alpha >0.8) in all items. Construct validity was assessed by receiver-operating characteristic curves and the area under the curve is above 0.5 in all items in both questionnaires. Convergent validity was assessed using Pearson coefficient correlation, which was above 0.8 for all subscales. Reliability was low for all subscales in the paired t test. Conclusions: The Sinhala versions of PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 were valid, consistent, responsive, but have low reliability in the Sri Lankan setting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The Cleveland Clinic Incontinence Score, known as the Wexner Score (WS), is a simple, disease-specific questionnaire for anal incontinence (AI) assessment. We aimed to translate and validate a Hebrew version of the WS. Methods: Between November 2018 and December 2019, the WS was back translated and reviewed by a multidisciplinary pelvic floor team. The questionnaire was filled out by patients visiting the urogynecology and surgical pelvic floor clinics. Two weeks after completion, the patients were contacted using telephone surveys to assess the test-retest reliability examination. Construct validity was assessed by comparing the WS to the Colorectal-Anal Distress Inventory 8 (CRADI-8), a part of the validated Hebrew version of the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory questionnaire (PFDI-20). Results: Overall, 91 female patients completed the WS questionnaire. Eighty-five percent (n = 78) responded to the re-test WS questionnaire. A high intraclass coefficient of 0.87 was found in the WS total score, with a range from 0.82 to 0.86 for its subscales. A significant positive relationship between the Hebrew versions of the WS and CRADI-8 scores was established (r = 0.66, p < 0.0001). Purpose: To translate the International Consultation of Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ)-bladder diary into Chinese and validate it among Chinese women with lower urinary tract symptoms. Methods: After receiving permission to translate and validate the ICIQ-bladder diary from Bristol Urological Institute, a Chinese ICIQ-bladder diary was developed through translation, re-translation and cultural adaption. Subsequently, we tested its reliability, validity and responsiveness and evaluated its optimal record duration among females with lower urinary tract symptoms. Results: A total of 146 participants were recruited in the study. We interviewed eight women about the content and format of the ICIQ-bladder diary, and they all thought it was clear and easy to use. Nineteen women completed the ICIQ-bladder diary twice with a 2-week interval. The resulting agreement of each item fluctuated between 0.582 and 0.940. A total of 11 urologists and nurses evaluated its content validity, and the experts' authority was 0.94 ± 0.06. The item content validity index of the ICIQ-bladder diary was 0.909–1.000, and the scale content validity index was 0.974. Another 22 women recorded their information in the ICIQ-bladder diary pre- and post-treatment, which showed a significant difference (P < 0.01), demonstrating rigorous responsiveness. Eighty-six women completed the ICIQ-bladder diary for 4 days, and the optimal duration of the ICIQ-bladder diary was tested as 3 days. Conclusions: The Chinese ICIQ-bladder diary demonstrates good stability, strong content validity and rigorous responsiveness among Chinese women with lower urinary tract symptoms. Introduction: Urogynaecological conditions have been shown to negatively impact on body image in a number of previous studies. ePAQ-Pelvic Floor (ePAQ-PF) is a patient-reported outcome measure used in clinical practice to assess urogynaecological conditions and their impact on quality of life. This study aimed to develop and undertake initial psychometric testing of a new domain to assess urogynaecological body image within ePAQ-PF. Methods: A patient involvement group, analysis of free-text data from ePAQ-PF and a systematic review of existing PROMs assessing urogynaecological body image informed the content of a new body-image domain within ePAQ-PF. This was administered to 208 patients who consented to the use of their anonymised ePAQ-PF responses for research purposes. These data underwent factor analysis, internal consistency reliability and item-total correlation testing. Evidence-based hypotheses were formulated to test construct validity. Criterion validity was assessed against the Body-image Scale (BIS). Patients completed a separate questionnaire (QQ-11) to measure the face validity of ePAQ-PF. Results: Factor analysis revealed a four-item body-image domain with good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.899) and item-total correlation (Spearman's rank r > 0.40). ePAQ-PF body-image domain scores correlated significantly with the BIS scores (r = 0.501). Age, prolapse, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain and urinary incontinence scores correlated significantly with body-image domain score. QQ-11 value scores demonstrated good acceptability. Conclusions: Body-image assessment should form part of routine care in urogynaecology. Preliminary results support the validity, reliability and functionality of the body-image domain in ePAQ-PF. Introduction and hypothesis: To translate the Prolapse and Incontinence Knowledge Questionnaire (PIKQ) into Turkish and test its validity and reliability. Methods: The study included 341 women. The translation of the PIKQ, which comprised of the urinary incontinence (PIKQ-UI) and pelvic organ prolapse (PIKQ-POP) sections, was performed in accordance with international recommendations. The Incontinence Quiz (IQ) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were applied to assess the level of knowledge about POP and UI. Psychometric analyses consisted of assessing the following: (1) construct validity by confirmatory factor analysis, (2) criterion and known group validity, (3) internal consistency reliability by the KR-20 coefficient, and (4) test-retest reliability over 1 week with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: All fit indices except the Standardized Root Mean Square Residual indicated acceptable fit for the final models. Criterion validity was supported by moderate correlations between the PIKQ-UI and the IQ (rho = 0.679, p < 0.001). There were positive and weak linear correlations between the PIKQ-UI and PIKQ-POP scores and their corresponding perceived knowledge scores (rho = 0.351, p = 0.013 and rho = 0.345, p = 0.014, respectively). The known group validity did not show differences indicating that participants did not have enough knowledge about UI and/or POP even when they had the condition or acquaintance with them (p = 0.852 and p = 0.185, respectively). Reliability was excellent as indicated by the ICCs of 0.91–0.90, and KR-20 of 0.67–0.75 indicated good internal consistency for the PIKQ-UI and PIKQ-POP, respectively. Introduction and hypothesis: Our aim was to clinically validate the Bladder Health Survey (BHS) for detecting urinary incontinence (UI) in population-based surveys. Methods: A random sample of women ≥40 years was recruited from primary care practices. We assessed the BHS content validity with an expert advisory board. Test-retest reliability of UI questions was measured. BHS UI definitions included noncases, active (more than three symptoms in the prior 6 months), inactive (past but no current symptoms), and incident (new onset over the past 2 years) cases. To assess criterion validity, we compared BHS diagnosis to an expert clinical diagnosis using structured history, pelvic exam, voiding diary, and urodynamics (if needed). Construct validity was assessed comparing the BHS UI score and case status to Sandvik's score. Results: Among 322 patients, the BHS identified 17 % as noncases, 70 % as active, 10 % as inactive, and 3 % as incident cases. Using the clinical diagnosis as the gold standard, the percent of true-positive UI cases was 98 % (active), 84 % (inactive), and 80 % (incident). A total of 75 % of BHS noncases were true negatives. The receiver operating characteristic c-statistic was 0.86. Sensitivity and specificity of the BHS were 91 % and 84 %, respectively. The Sandvik score for active cases (median = 4) was significantly greater than it was for inactive (median = 1), incident (median = 1), and noncases (median = 0) ( p < 0.001). The BHS UI score was significantly correlated with the Sandvik severity score ( r = 0.68, p < 0.01).
