Abstract

Variational studies on spiked oscillators with the potential form x2 + λ/xβ in [0, ∞) reveal certain limitations of the conventional choices for wave functions in the β ≥ 2 regime. A careful analysis shows the necessity of properly incorporating the Dirichlet boundary condition at x = 0.
