The El Salvador plutonic complex is a 9.2 km2 circular body within the Sierra de Tamaulipas, part of the Eastern Mexican Alkaline Province (EMAP). Three alkaline magmatic suites were identified from El Salvador from the geochemical analysis of 20 samples. Suite A (SiO2 = 58.3–65.3 wt.%) is ferroan (Fe* = 0.761–0.873) and alkalic (MALI = 4.83–9.89). In contrast, Suites B (SiO2 = 52.5–60.8 wt.%; Fe* = 0.680–0.756) and C (SiO2 = 50.5–67.1 wt.%; Fe* = 0.616–0.749) are magnesian. Suite B is alkali-calcic (MALI = -2.18–4.64), while Suite C is alkalic (MALI = 4.48–8.59). All suites display arc-related signatures. U-Pb and fission-track geochronology data reveal two uplift episodes during the cooling history of Suite A. One in the Late Eocene was based on U-Pb zircon (38.42 ± 0.21 Ma) and titanite ages (35.54 ± 3.77 Ma). The other was during the Oligocene from U-Pb apatite (29.9 ± 6.54 Ma) and fission-track titanite (30.2 ± 5.53 Ma) and apatite ages (32.7 ± 7.06 Ma). Integrating the arc-related signatures of El Salvador rocks with the well-documented Palaeogene arc magmatism of the Sierra Madre del Sur, we propose that the mantle beneath the EMAP experienced metasomatism during the Early Permian (and possibly the Early Jurassic) but not after the Late Cretaceous, ruling out Cenozoic slab subduction in eastern Mexico. In the absence of a slab to explain the El Salvador magmatism, we suggest a long-lasting, widespread mantle upwelling beneath Mexico's northern half in response to the Farallon slab's break-up. Under this context, the westward drift of the North American plate led to the Mexican Foreland Basin lithosphere reaching this massive mantle upwelling in late Eocene times to produce the EMAP magmatism. The Araba and Naqus formations in Ras Milan, Sinai, constitute part of the major continuous Paleozoic clastic belt stretching across northern Gondwana. They are sandstone-dominated successions, resting on Precambrian granitic basement, with lowermost thin basal polymictic conglomerate deposits (1–2 m), marking the unconformity. The Araba Formation section is composed mainly of varicoloured violet to reddish brown, fine to coarse-grained laminated and planner and overturned cross-bedded sandstones, while the overlying Naqus Formation is characterized by chaotically distributed poorly sorted quartz pebbles to cobbles within a moderately-sorted coarse- to medium-grained quartz arenite and by abundance and variety of large-scale tabular and trough cross bedding. Modal QFL classification of Araba and Naqus formation sandstones revealed that they are merely quartzose sandstones (quartz arenites). Geochemistry of the succession shows extremely wide compositional ranges for almost all major elements, but the Araba Formation is relatively enriched in SiO2, TiO2, Fe2O3*, Na2O, P2O5, and depleted in Al2O3, MgO, CaO and K2O relative to Naqus Formation. Only the Araba Formation samples are depleted in the transition elements Ni, Cr and Co and oppositely possess extreme enrichment in the HFSEs (i.e. Zr, Hf, Y, Nb, Ta, Th, U), whereas both formations show variable depletion in the LILE Rb, K and Ba, and excessive REE abundances relative to the PAAS and UCC, and LREE-enriched patterns with marked negative Eu anomalies. The provenance of the Naqus and Araba formations could be an earlier felsic magmatic source, which has undergone extensive sedimentary recycling. They possess high compositional maturity and were subjected to intensive to moderate weathering during humid climatic conditions. A combined study of whole-rock geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic data, and zircon U-Pb geochronological and Hf isotopes has been carried out for several Neoproterozoic intrusions, including the Lung Thang, Posen and Sin Quyen in the Phan Si Pan Zone, northwest Vietnam to constrain their age, petrogenesis and tectonic implications. The Lung Thang and Posen intrusions, mainly composed of granodiorite, were formed at 803–777 Ma and are characterized by moderate SiO2 (64.43–66.65 wt.%), and K2O (4.05–4.89 wt.%), with A/CNK and A/NK values of (0.94–1.03) and (1.72–2.11), respectively. They have negative whole-rock εNd(t) (−6.16 to −3.73) and zircon εHf(t) values (−7.9 to −4.1), which suggest that the Lung Thang and Posen intrusions were generated by partial melting of ancient, K-rich crustal rocks. The Sin Quyen intrusion, occurring as dykes, is composed of monzodiorite and was emplaced at 742 ± 3 Ma. The Sin Quyen intrusion has high alkalies (K2O+Na2O = 7.42–7.47 wt.%), and low MgO (<1.31 wt.%) and Ni (6.55–6.93 ppm), with A/CNK and A/NK values of (0.67–0.68) and (1.64–1.68), respectively. Their whole-rock εNd(t) and zircon εHf(t) values are −6.15 to −5.92 and −5.8 to + 8, respectively. These geochemical characteristics suggest that the Sin Quyen intrusion was produced by the partial melting of ancient crustal sources mingled with mantle-derived components. Geochemically, the Lung Thang, Posen and Sin Quyen intrusions are medium- to high-K, calc-alkaline in nature and show enrichment in LILE (Th, U, K, Rb) and LREE, and strong negative anomalies of Nb, Ta, and Ti. Such geochemical characteristics suggest that they formed in a subduction-related tectonic environment. The geochronological and geochemical correlation of these intrusions with those along the southwestern margin of the Yangtze Block in South China suggests that the Phan Si Pan zone in northwestern Vietnam is a constituent of the SW Yangtze Block. Additionally, these intrusions show a significant correlation with other contemporaneous magmatic rocks in the northeast Indochina Block, Lhasa Block, the northwestern margin of Greater India as well as those in Seychelles and northern Madagascar. This correlation suggests a similar history and synchronous episode of crustal growth/recycling in an Andean-type arc system along the western and northern margin of the Rodinia supercontinent during the Neoproterozoic. The global demand for lithium is steadily increasing, driving an increased focus on exploration efforts worldwide. Lithium, a crucial metal for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) used in renewable energy technologies, is vital in the global drive to reduce carbon emissions. India’s ambitions to become a manufacturing hub for LIBs and achieve 100% electric vehicle (EV) sales by 2030 require significant quantities of lithium. However, challenges due to limited domestic reserves within the country, prompting efforts to define new exploration targets and develop existing lithium occurrences. Recent discoveries in northern Jammu and Kashmir and southern Karnataka highlight promising lithium deposits. This study focuses on India’s lithium exploration within pegmatite belts across various cratonic blocks, identifying significant potential for lithium exploration and mining. Notably, spodumene-rich pegmatites are found in Karnataka’s Dharwar Craton, while lepidolite-rich pegmatites exist in Rajasthan’s Aravalli-Delhi Fold Belt and the Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh region. Regions like Bihar-Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Assam-Meghalaya also exhibit promise for lithium exploration. These findings emphasize the diverse lithological settings where lithium exploration can be strategically pursued in India. This study recommends adopting modern exploration techniques and developing cost-effective extraction technologies to advance India’s lithium exploration efforts. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, an important part of the Central Orogenic Belt in China, preserved wealthy geological information for the tectonic evolution of the Proto- and Paleo-Tethys Ocean. Several Permian mafic-ultramafic rocks were identified in the Qimantagh area, EKOB, and zircon U-Pb dating, zircon Hf isotope, geochemistry and whole-rock Sr-Nd isotopes were studied in this paper. The results suggest that the formation age of the Xiyingzhaogou intrusion is 280 ± 4 Ma. The rocks show the characteristics of continental-arc calc-alkaline basalt. The whole-rock εNd(t) value of gabbro in Xiyingzhaogou intrusion is −4.2~-2.6 and the εHf(t) value of zircon is 2.77 ~ 5.82, indicating the characteristics of enriched or weakly depleted mantle; The formation age of Yingzhaogou intrusion is 263 ± 4 Ma. The geochemical characteristics of the Yinzhaogou rocks are consistent with those of continental-arc tholeiite. The whole-rock εNd(t) value of gabbro in Yingzhaogou intrusion is 0.73 ~ 0.92, and the εHf(t) value of zircon is 8.33 ~ 13.50, indicating the characteristics of depleted mantle. We believe that the Xiyingzhaogou intrusion was formed in the Early Permian and originated from the mantle wedge metasomatized by subduction fluid. The Yingzhaogou intrusion was formed in an extensional continental-arc environment caused by the retreat of the subduction plate. Asthenospheric mantle and fluid metasomatic lithospheric mantle were jointly involved in the mantle source. This study confirmed that the subduction of the Paleo-Tethys oceanic slab should had started before the Early Permian and a wide magma arc formed due to flat subduction. This paper presents a complete map of the Mesozoic volcanic-plutonic complexes in the Taiwan Strait and its adjacent areas in terms of seismic profiles, ages, geochemistry, isotopic systematics, and published data. Two periods of igneous activity in the Taiwan Strait can be distinguished by seismic profiles: Jurassic (200.4–148.2 Ma); and Latest Jurassic/Cretaceous to Maastrichtian (144–66 Ma), of which the Cretaceous is the best preserved and could possibly be the most widespread. Mesozoic magmatic activity with the NE-striking distribution was migrating southeastward (oceanward). LA-MC-ICPMS zircon U – Pb dating yields the age data of 109.5 ± 0.4 Ma for PTDH1 granodiorite and 92.6 ± 0.4 Ma for PTDH4 rhyolite in the Taiwan Strait, respectively. The 581.66-m-thick Upper Jurassic volcanic rocks of the Chuan2 well are the thickest Mesozoic igneous rocks in the Taiwan Strait. The petrogenetic discrimination diagram of the Cretaceous volcanic-plutonic complexes along the coast of South China and the Taiwan Strait generally is belonging to volcanic arc or intraplate type calc-alkaline rock series. The high potassium calc-alkaline rock series of the Cretaceous volcanic-plutonic complexes that is most widely distributed in the coastal areas of South China and the Taiwan Strait. Metacarbonates serve as proxies for understanding the chemical oceanography of the present, as well as the past-day ocean’s evolution history and these are extensively described in the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian collisional belts of East Gondwana. The Cauvery Suture Zone (CSZ), Southern Granulite Terrane (SGT), India, is one such prominent example of their occurrence, along with several Precambrian dismembered ophiolites, arc-related intrusions and other metamorphic rocks. These are dominantly exposed in the western, southern and south-central parts of the suture, around the Neoproterozoic Kadavur Gabbro-Anorthosite and Manamedu Ophiolite Complexes. Their whole-rock geochemistry reveals the protoliths of metacarbonates have been derived from different sources of continental inputs and deposited under open to passive margin settings. The δ13C(V-PDB)) - δ18O(V-SMOW) data (−0.01 to + 3.03‰; +15.81 to + 24.84‰) reveal as high-temperature carbonates of typical limestone variety, deposited under warmer palaeoclimatic conditions of the marine environment and later subjected to metamorphism. The presence of higher 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.707514 to 0.71511) and negative εNd values (−17.3 to −10) suggests that they originated from large crustal inputs with more interactions of seawater with the sediments, evolved during Ediacaran to early Cambrian periods. The above results reveal that these are possible remnants of the Neoproterozoic Mozambique Ocean and coeval with the metacarbonates of Sør Rondane Mountains-East Antarctica, Highland Complex-Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Mozambique Belts of Neoproterozoic Gondwana. The Cadomian basement of SW Iberian Massif appears in the so-called Ossa-Morena Complex, which contains several allochthonous terranes that are key for deciphering the evolution of the Gondwana margin during the Neoproterozoic. In this context, the Calzadilla Ophiolite represents the remnants of an oceanic Ediacaran lithosphere formed by a boninitic mafic crust that overlies a serpentinized ultramafic section, the latter being the biggest outcrop of Cadomian serpentinites in Europe. In this work, the petrological and geochemical nature of the mantle section is analysed, as well as the tectonothermal evolution of both, the mafic crust and the ultramafic section. The algebraic analysis of whole rock geochemistry of the serpentinites indicates that the protolith corresponds to harzburgite. The geochemical fingerprint of the serpentinites, as well as the primary spinel crystals composition, shows that peridotites underwent high degrees of partial melting (up to 16%) in a forearc setting. Thermodynamic modelling and average PT methods were applied to serpentinites and mafic dykes from the ultramafic section as well as to amphibolites from the mafic section, both of which experienced progradation up to 4–5 kbar and 525–575°C. According to the data, the protoliths of the Calzadilla Ophiolite were formed in a peri-Gondwanan arc system developed during the subduction of oceanic crust below Gondwana. The roll-back of the subducting slab would induce the opening of the forearc basin at c. 602 Ma, protolith age of amphibolites from crustal section, with an extensive partial melting of the mantle wedge and the formation of boninitic-affinity magmas that constitute the mafic section of the Calzadilla Ophiolite. Metasomatism and serpentinization of the mantle wedge would occur via melt- and fluid–rock interactions. A compression-dominated stage at c. 540 led to the emplacement of the Calzadilla Ophiolite onto the Cadomian magmatic arc, with the development of the amphibolite-facies metamorphic imprint. The granitic rocks in the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, southern Thailand, SE Asia Tin Belt, comprise gneissic biotite monzogranite, porphyritic muscovite–biotite monzogranite, and porphyritic biotite monzogranite. Comprehensive field observations, petrography, mineral chemistry, and geochemistry establish gneissic biotite monzogranites as part of the Central Belt Granites (CBGs), while porphyritic muscovite–biotite monzogranite and porphyritic biotite monzogranite as part of the Western Belt Granites (WBGs). CBG and WBG granitic units exhibit peraluminous, alkali-calcic, and magnesian magmatic series traits, reflecting an S-type granite character resulting from crustal partial melting. Significantly, scatter correlations in variation diagrams, combined with the enrichment of Cs, Rb, Th, U, Pb, Nd, and P, and the depletion of Ba, Nb, and Ti contents, point towards an S-type granite signature formed during collisional events. Crystallization conditions reveal CBG gneissic biotite monzogranite encountered P–T conditions of 2.97–3.85 kbar/680°C–733°C/11.1–14.4 km, while WBG’s porphyritic muscovite–biotite monzogranite and porphyritic biotite monzogranite experienced 2.73–4.15 kbar/628°C–732°C/10.2–15.5 km and 2.47–3.80 kbar/651°C–728°C/9.2–14.2 km, respectively. Geochronological data indicate that CBG’s gneissic biotite monzogranite was emplaced from Early Cretaceous collision (128–119 Ma) of Indochina and Sibumasu terranes, while WBG’s porphyritic muscovite–biotite monzogranite and porphyritic biotite monzogranite were formed during the syn-collision of Sibumasu and West Burma terranes during Early Cretaceous (121–111 Ma) to Paleocene. The Nagaland-Manipur ophiolites (NMO), part of the Phanerozoic (538.8–0 Ma) Tethyan ophiolites, occur in the NNE-SSW trending Indo-Myanmar Orogenic Belt (IMOB), northeast India. The NMO hosts both high-Al (0.46 < Cr# < 0.53) and high-Cr chromitites (0.71 < Cr# < 0.79). These chromitite bodies are hosted in lherzolite, harzburgite, and dunite and show various textures, including massive, disseminated, nodular, and granular. The high-Al chromitite compositions in conjunction with the calculated Al2O3[melt] (15.66–16.39 wt.%), TiO2[melt] (0.65–0.94 wt.%), and FeO/MgO[melt] (0.65–0.83 wt.%) values indicate that they were derived from the tholeiitic melt that formed at the mid-ocean ridge centre through low-degree partial melting. In contrast, the high-Cr chromitites, coupled with the Al2O3[melt] (11.24–12.99 wt.%), TiO2[melt] (0.21–0.33 wt.%), and FeO/MgO[melt] (0.58–1.54) values show similar geochemical affinities to those derived from boninitic melts produced by partial melting of already depleted mantle due to the subduction of oceanic plate in a supra-subduction zone environment. The total platinum group element (PGE) contents (60–190 ppb) of high-Al chromitites are lower than the total PGE contents (118–2341 ppb) in high-Cr chromitites. Chondrite-normalized PGE patterns in high-Al chromitites are flat from Os to Rh and negatively sloping from Rh to Pd, whereas high-Cr chromitites show strongly fractionated chondrite-normalized PGE patterns. Total PGE contents and low Pd/Ir ratios (0.02–0.64) of chromitites are consistent with typical ophiolitic chromitites. Mineral chemistry and PGE systematics suggest that NMO chromitites were generated in two separate tectonic settings. Thus, we argue that the upper mantle of the NMO of the IMOB has been modified by a substantial amount of supra-subduction zone components after initially being formed in a mid-ocean ridge tectonic environment. During the initial stages of Pangea amalgamation in the Carboniferous period, the Rheic Ocean basin experienced subduction prompted by the convergence between Gondwana and Laurasia, culminating in the basin's closure that preceded the paleocontinent collision. This tectonic episode promoted the Carboniferous (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian) tholeiitic to calc-alkaline magmatism, represented in the Colombian Andes through the tonalite and diorite-gabbro facies of the El Carmen Pluton. We investigate the two main facies (felsic and mafic facies) of the plutonic body, which crop out in the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. U-Pb zircon crystallization ages are 326 ± 1 Ma for the mafic facies and 313 ± 1 Ma for the felsic facies. Positive ɛHf(i) isotopes ranging from +5.4 to +10.9 suggest mantle-derived magma with low crustal assimilation. The progressive increase in Eu anomaly (Eu × 0.64 to 1.15) and high LREE/HREE ratios underscore a continental magmatic arc formation in congruence with a subduction context. Thermobarometric analyses of mineral geochemistry across both facies reveal the magmatic emplacement at temperatures spanning 753–910°C, pressures between 3 and 4.65 kbar, and depths approximating 9–14 km. The simultaneous presence of two magmatic facies bearing tholeiitic and calc-alkaline characteristics, separated by ~13 Ma crystallization gap, infers a magmatic recharge episode. The results highlight a slightly thickened crust due to the arc maturity, or a transition from shallow-dipping to steep-angle subduction, consistent with tectonic slab-rollback mechanisms. The subduction-related Sunda-Banda arc hosts several giant and major Cu–Au–Mo porphyry and epithermal Au systems, making it one of the most important magmatic-related metallogenic belts in Indonesia. They are accompanied by a number of smaller systems, one of which is the recently discovered Randu-Kuning porphyry Cu-Au deposit on Java Island. The present study investigates the geochemical characteristics of this deposit through whole-rock and mineral geochemistry and mineral geothermobarometry, focusing on three sequential dioritic intrusions that make up the host igneous complex, two barren and the third mineralized. Moreover, a comparative analysis is performed between other porphyry deposits in the Sunda-Banda arc and with Grasberg in Papua. This study shows that the older porphyry deposits have mostly similar geochemical characteristics to the younger deposits, suggesting the same magma source, which is mantle-derived oxidized I-type magma. Amphibole geothermobarometry shows that the formation of syn-ore intrusion in the older porphyry was higher in temperature and pressure than those at the younger porphyry. The halogen and oxygen fugacities inferred from biotite and amphibole chemistry indicate an oxidized, water- and halogen-rich melt. Our study shows that combining amphibole and biotite chemistry and whole-rock geochemical data is useful to fingerprint the magmatic-hydrothermal processes, especially where multiple magmatic phases occur. The timing of extensional events in northern Gondwana remains elusive. In relations to this event, a new zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotopic compositions, and whole-rock geochemistry provided here for the amphibolites in the basement unit of the Menderes Massif (MM) within the Anatolide-Tauride Block (ATB). LA-ICP-MS U-Pb zircon dating of one sample yielded a crystallization age of 367.0 ± 2.5 Ma, providing the first record of Late Devonian (Famennian) mafic magmatism in the Menderes Massif. This sample contains inherited zircon grains with ages spanning from 588 Ma to 541 Ma, likely sourced from late Neoproterozoic country rocks. Chondrite-normalized rare earth element patterns exhibit enrichment in light rare earth elements and flat patterns for heavy rare earth elements, suggesting affinities with tholeiitic EMORB and ocean island basalt. The geochemical data, coupled with the positive εHf(t) values ranging from 0.5 to 7.8, indicate that the amphibolite likely originated from juvenile melts generated by partial melting of the asthenospheric mantle. This melt was subsequently modified by crustal contamination and fractional crystallization. Contemporaneous EMORB- and OIB-like mafic rocks are identified in the eastern Taurides and Iran, respectively. Both regional geological and geochemical evidence proposes that Late Devonian magmatism in the Anatolide-Tauride Block occurred in a within-plate tectonic setting. This magmatic activity might have been triggered by the northward subduction of the Paleotethys beneath the Pontides during the Devonian, a process that would produce a slab-pull force, creating an extensional tectonic regime along the northern margin of Gondwana. Permo-Triassic intrusive rocks and back-arc basins are exposed in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit in the West Pontides. Their tectono-magmatic history, thus to the evolution of the back-arc basins, is poorly understood. Here, I present on olivine-bearing basalt and andesite dykes and granite dykes and pyroxene-bearing andesite dykes of Permo-Triassic crystallization and their Pb-loss ages from the basement rocks and sedimentary rocks in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit (NW Turkey). They have holocrystalline and porphyritic to vitrophyric textures. U-Pb dating of igneous zircon grains from olivine-bearing basalt and andesite dykes and granite dykes yielded Middle Permian ages of ca. 270.1 ± 1.1 to 261.4 ± 1.7 Ma (2σ), and pyroxene-bearing andesite dykes obtained Early Triassic ages of ca. 252.1 ± 2.4 to 250.1 ± 2.0 Ma (2σ). Their young ages of the dykes yielded Late Triassic ages of ca. 228 to 220 Ma (2σ). Geochemically, the Middle Permian dykes have a calc-alkaline affinity and are notable for subduction components, as indicated by the presence of distinct negative Nb anomalies. Early Triassic dykes show alkaline signatures and show within-plate character, corresponding to prominent positive Nb anomalies. Combined with data from the literature, the Middle Permian dykes are magmatic products associated with the Tethys Ocean subducting under the Pontides and the Early Triassic dykes are magmatic pulses related to the rifting of the Permo-Triassic back-arc basins. The Late Triassic young ages of the Permo-Triassic dykes in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit represent a deformation event corresponding to the Cimmerian Orogeny, and this implies that the Permo-Triassic back-arc basins closed during the late Triassic. The Amazonian Craton is home to many Statherian to Calymmian taphrogenesis events that evolved over Large Igneous Provinces. The NW-SE faults on the Western Amazonian Igneous Belt (1.82–1.74Ga) and their reactivations, which facilitated the deposition of the Beneficente Group (1.76–1.60Ga), Prainha Formation (1.46Ga), and Alto Tapajós Group (Silurian-Devonian), are associated with these events in the southwest Amazonian Craton. Mineralogical composition, whole-rocks geochemistry, and Nd-Sr-Pb isotopic data show that the three sedimentary successions originated in the provinces of Rondônia-Juruena and Tapajós Parima, particularly during two rift stages. Beneficente Group deposition is associated with Paleoproterozoic Rift 1, while the Prainha Formation represents the post-rift 1, and Alto Tapajós Group deposition is associated with Paleozoic Rift 2. In addition, the Prainha Formation also received sediment supply from the Sunsás Province. These three sedimentary successions have an intrinsic relationship with the reworking of the local basement and their own reworking that occurred from the Paleoproterozoic to the Paleozoic. Autochthonous reworking, particularly in the Colíder and Beneficente groups, is demonstrated by Ti-magnetite grains, volcanic and arenite fragments in the Prainha Formation sublitharenite, and by angular microcline grains, high Au content, a Pb whole-rock isochron yielding the 1.796±0.096Ga age, and by ${\varepsilon _{Sr\left(0 \right)}}$ ε Sr 0 vs 1/Rb relationship in Alto Tapajós Group. ${\varepsilon _{Nd\left(t \right)}}$ ε Nd t and flat REE patterns and some positive Eu anomalies in the Prainha Formation and Alto Tapajós Group record the influence of the mafic rocks of the Mata-Matá suite. A Pb-Pb whole-rock isochron allowed hydrothermal activity recognition at 1.32Ga in the Vila do Carmo Formation. This event was ratified by positive Eu/Eu* (1.3–1.43), Ce/Ce* (1.24–2.84), and Gd/Gd*(~1.5) anomalies. Finally, Nd model ages, geochemistry, and Sr isotopes allow for correlating the local basement and the overlaying sedimentary successions along the Columbia and Gondwana boundaries. The evolution of the Gondwana along the flank of the West African Craton was complex and is far from understood. Subduction-related activity along this margin spanned between c. 750 and 500 Ma. Sections close to African cratons record the earliest stages, while Autochthonous and Allochthonous domains of the Variscan Belt preserve the latest stages of the arc system, essentially between c. 540 and 500 Ma. The geochemistry of the Ediacaran-early Cambrian siliciclastic series deposited along this Cadomian active margin preserves the evolutionary history of their sources, which are related to activity in the arc and nearby continental areas. In this sense, the SW Iberian Massif (Ossa-Morena Complex) preserves a section of this Ediacaran-early Cambrian peri-Gondwanan arc. Its evolution can be tracked through the characterization of the subduction-related magmatism (including the Mérida Massif) and coeval metasedimentary record (Serie Negra Group and Malcocinado Formation) during a time interval spanning almost 100 m.y., from pre-602 Ma to at least c. 534 Ma. This study reveals that arc magmatism is closely linked with synorogenic deposition in a complex way so far unexplored. Arc recycling is revealed by the isotopic equivalence of synorogenic strata to the first magmatic event (pre-602 Ma), and by geochronological data of the arc-building pulses. The earliest magmatic pulses (c. 602–550 Ma) are characterized by significant crustal input, likely favoured by subduction erosion. Subsequently, magmatism evolved towards larger mantle involvement (c. 540–534 Ma), likely associated with progressive variation in the slab angle. These slab-mantle-upper plate interactions generated changes in the arc dynamics leading to an extensional setting with alkaline magmatism during the Cambrian. This review proposes a model of petrogenetic and geodynamic arc evolution between the Ediacaran and the Early Cambrian. Earth's first continental crust is formed by Archaean and mainly consisted of tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite with a small amount of diorites (DTTGs), which has an essential role in probing early crust–mantle dynamic regime and in understanding the formation mechanism of continental crust. Here, we present zircon U‒Pb dating and Lu‒Hf isotopes, whole-rock geochemistry, and petrography on DTTGs rocks in the Dunhuang Block. Three episodes of DTTGs were emplaced circa 2.67 Ga, 2.60 Ga, and 2.50 Ga. The circa 2.67 Ga TTGs exhibit high SiO2 contents (68.14–71.70 wt%), low MgO contents (0.65–1.31 wt%), and high ratios of (La/Yb)N (146 on average), with their enriched Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -5.48–3.19 and ƐNd (t) = -5.77–0.53], indicating origination from partial melting of amphibolites at thickened lower crust. In contrast, the circa 2.60 Ga transitional TTGs exhibit relatively high MgO contents (2.80–3.39 wt%), flat REE (Rare earth element) patterns with moderate ratios of (La/Yb)N (20.49 on average), and dispersed Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -5.48–3.19 and ƐNd (t)= −3.99–3.08]. Accordingly, circa 2.60 Ga transitional TTGs melts were produced by partial melting of the shallower crust induced by mantle-derived magma upwelling. The circa 2.50 Ga diorites exhibit low SiO2 (55.72–59.11 wt%) but high MgO (3.51–4.52 wt%) contents with positive Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -0.16–4.17 and ƐNd (t) = 2.00–4.45], suggesting that they originated from partial melting of mantle wedges metasomatized by fluid from subduction slabs. Combined with the detailed petrogenetic studies and crustal thickness variation, we conclude that the complex crust–mantle interaction may be an essential reason for the Neoarchaean diversity of DTTGs from the Dunhuang Block, which experienced prolonged arc accretion before Neoarchaean, followed by delamination between 2.67 and 2.60 Ga and subsequently transitioned to subduction. The paper presents new geological, geochronological, geochemical and Nd-Sr isotopic data on the Meso- Neoproterozoic dolerites of the Siberian Craton. New U-Pb baddeleyite and apatite ages of a E-W-trending dyke and two sills from southeastern Siberia are 982 ± 11, 977 ± 7, 970 ± 31 and 972 ± 60 Ma, respectively, extending the area of distribution of the event by more than 100 km to the north. The Sette-Daban intrusions are subalkalic mostly low-Ti dolerites, although high-Ti dolerites have been locally documented as well. Trace element abundances in dolerites vary from typical to E-MORB to OIB with arc-like signatures represented by high Th/Yb and low TiO2/Yb ratios. All dolerite samples display moderately positive εNd(t) values varying from +3.3 to +7.7 and indicating the magmas were derived from a depleted mantle source. E-MORB and OIB intrusions are attributed to the different degree of interaction of magma between the depleted asthenospheric mantle and regions within the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) that were metasomatically enriched during earlier subduction events. Available data on Sette-Daban event distribution, composition and duration satisfy the characteristics of a typical Large Igneous Province (LIP). Similar age 1000–950 Ma mafic magmatism is also recognized in the Baltic and Amazonian cratons and can be potentially correlated with the Sette-Daban event. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The widespread Cenozoic Himalayan leucogranites (HLs) are representative rocks evolving from relatively pure crust-derived melts with few mantle material inputs and are believed to be highly fractionated and rare-metal mineralization developed. Over the past several decades, high-quality geochronological and geochemical analyses for the HLs have facilitated exploring the metamorphism, deformation, anatexis, and tectonic settings, enabling us to decipher the evolution process of the Himalayan orogen. In this study, we collected a large amount of geochronological, geochemical, and thermodynamic data from previous studies. Generally, the HLs exhibit (strongly) peraluminous (1.06–1.22) features and are characterized by high SiO2 (70.95–75.08 wt. %) and Al2O3 (14.18–15.85 wt. %) and low TiO2 (0.02–0.26 wt. %), MgO (0.07–0.73 wt. %), MnO (0.01–0.07 wt. %), and total iron (FeOT = 0.44–1.71 wt. %) contents, and are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (e.g. K, Rb, Pb, U). Moreover, rare-metal elements (Li, Be, Ta, W, Sn) also show their enrichments in the HLs; and the deviations of K/Rb (72.16–190.45), Zr/Hf (15.00–35.19), Nb/Ta (2.65–12.75), and Y/Ho (26.07–36.75) ratios from the chondritic values are also notable. All these geochemical structures above suggest that the HLs are (highly) fractionated. Considering the diverging whole-rock isotopic Sr and Nd compositions of the HLs, with the (87Sr/86Sr)t ratios and εNd(t) values mostly ranging from 0.7159 to 0.8052 and −16.78 to −10.43, respectively, the source rocks of the HLs should be multiplex. Additionally, different melting mechanisms (including fluid-absent/present partial melting of muscovite, biotite, and hornblende) can be identified in the HL productions. The occurrences of beryl (Be), columbite (Nb and Ta), spodumene (Li), and many other rare-metal minerals have been frequently reported recently, suggesting the enrichment of rare-metal elements associated with the HLs. To provide a comprehensive and meticulous summary of these HLs (1593 leucogranite samples), we divide them into five stages based on different tectonic backgrounds. After comparing them, we propose that: (1) from Stage I to V, the HL emplacements were strongly related to the tectonic backgrounds: thickened crust from ca. 49 to 40 Ma (I), transition from compression to N-S extension (onset of the South Tibetan Detachment System (STDS)) from ca. 39 to 30 Ma (II), large-scale N-S extension (active movement of the STDS) from ca. 29 to 15 Ma (III), N-S extension to E-W extension tectonic transition (construction of N-S trending rifts (NSTRs)) from ca. 14 to 7 Ma (IV) and rapid uplift of two Himalayan syntaxes from ca. 6 to 2 Ma (V), respectively; (2) the coeval leucogranites emplaced in the Tethyan Himalayas (THLs) and Greater Himalayas (GHLs) had many similarities (particularly in Stages III and IV) in: geochemical compositions, peak emplacement ages, tectonic backgrounds, melting mechanisms, source domains, and fractional crystallization degrees; (3) materials from the Lesser Himalayan Sequence were increasingly significant in producing the HLs from the Eocene to the Pleistocene temporally, and from the Tethyan Himalayan Sequence to the Greater Himalayan Crystalline Complex spatially; (4) owing to the depleted abundances of rare-metal elements in mafic source rocks (e.g. amphibolites) and relatively lower fractional crystallization degrees of the Eocene leucogranites, rare-metal mineralization was rarely reported; (5) excessive fractional crystallization may be the dominant driving force for enriching rare-metal elements (Li-Be-Nb-Ta-W-Sn) of the HLs, making the Himalayas a new potential global orogen scale of polymetallic ore belt. Sedimentary manganese (Mn) deposits in the southeastern Yangtze Platform of China have been newly discovered with considerable potential for resource exploration. Such deposits formed due to dynamic changes in the global environment, including the break-up of the supercontinent Rodinia, Snowball Earth glaciation, and the Neoproterozoic Oxygenation Event. The Mn-bearing sequences are hosted in the basal Datangpo Formation and are interbedded with black carbonaceous shale in a series of graben sub-basins in the Nanhua Rift Basin. We investigated the origin of these Mn deposits by analysing the major and trace elements, total organic carbon, and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes. Positive Eu anomalies were observed, indicating that the Mn was derived from a hydrothermal system. Redox-related elements, including Ce, Mo, U, V, S, and P, indicated that the depositional environment of the Mn layers was oxidative and that Mn2+ was initially oxidized to Mn oxides. However, the host rock (i.e. black carbonaceous shale) was deposited under dysoxic – anoxic and even sulfidic water conditions. The alternating distribution of Mn ore and host rock suggested alternating redox conditions in the sub-basins. A negative correlation between the Mn content and δ13Ccarb values (−10‰–−7‰) and a deficiency of sulphide minerals indicate that the diagenetic degradation of organic matter (δ13Corg from − 34‰ to − 31.9‰) took place through Mn oxide reduction rather than microbial sulphate reduction and can contribute to a considerable source of bicarbonates. The approximately homogeneous δ13Ccarb depletion and their apparent discrepancy with δ13Corg indicate that the post-depositional genesis of the Mn carbonate ore occurred in a relatively open early diagenetic pore water system with a considerable contribution from seawater-derived carbon sources. Located in the central part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, East Junggar represents one of the most important sites of juvenile crustal growth during the Phanerozoic. However, the mechanism of juvenile crustal growth during the Permian remains controversial. The Daheishan granites in the eastern segment of East Junggar are dated at ~292 Ma (Early Permian) and 269 Ma–267 Ma (Middle Permian). The Early Permian granites are coarse-grained with very high SiO2 (76.64 wt%–80.02 wt%), Al2O3 (10.72 wt%–12.96 wt%), and K2O/Na2O (1.27‒2.14), and low TiO2 (0.12 wt%–0.18 wt%), CaO (0.27 wt%–0.90 wt%), Mg# (25–32), and Sr/Yb (16–25). The Middle Permian granites are medium‒fine-grained with relatively high SiO2 (71.84 wt%–76.26 wt%), Al2O3 (11.26 wt%–13.00 wt%), and K2O/Na2O (0.53–1.54), and low TiO2 (0.17 wt%–0.21 wt%), CaO (0.37 wt%–3.20 wt%), Mg# (33–43), and Sr/Yb (5–9). These Permian granites display slightly positive whole-rock εNd(t) (+0.77 to + 1.04) and highly positive zircon εHf(t) (+7.3 to + 8.7) values, and low Ga/Al (2.04–2.55 < 2.6), P2O5 (0.02%–0.05% <0.14%), and zircon saturation temperature (690°C–749°C, take the median for each sample). Moreover, they display characteristic tetrad rare earth element patterns and non-CHARAC (CHArge-and-RAdius-Controlled) trace element behaviour, suggesting that the Daheishan granites are I-type granites that underwent both fractional crystallization (K-feldspar and plagioclase, e.g.) and crustal contamination prior to their emplacement. In combination with data from volcanic rocks in the Santanghu Basin, we infer that the Early Permian granitic magmas were derived from delamination of a thickened lithospheric mantle base and partial melting of pre-Permian arc components, while the Middle Permian granites formed during the subsequent stretching and thinning of the lithosphere. We report the whole-rock major and trace element and Sr – Nd – Pb isotopic compositions of volcanic rocks from the Nansatsu area in South Kyushu. We analysed samples from the Oldest stage (middle Miocene), Older stage (late Miocene), and Middle stage (early Pliocene) Nansatsu volcanic rocks, which are andesite to dacite in composition, with an island-arc trace element signature. The compositional variabilities within the Older and the Middle stage rocks are relatively small compared to those in the Oldest stage and Quaternary volcanic rocks. Isotopic characteristics suggested that the Oldest stage volcanic rocks had magma sources similar to regional ilmenite-series granitoids of later ages (Outer Zone granitoids), which incorporated a substantial amount of graphite-bearing accretionary sediments (Shimanto Supergroup). The sources for the Older and Middle stage magmas were similar to those of primary Quaternary basalts in South Kyushu, indicating that Pliocene and Quaternary volcanic rocks in South Kyushu share a common mantle source, despite the change in the nature of volcanic activity from andesite-dominated to more variable volcanism of basalt to rhyolite. Subduction-related magmatism is a significant contributor to arc building and continental growth. In the active convergent margin of the SW Japan arc, voluminous volcanic rocks and mafic dykes formed through subduction and back-arc rifting during Miocene. In this study, we investigate a suite of felsic volcanic rocks (rhyolite and dacite) and lamprophyres from central Shikoku Island, which occur in the north-central part of the Chichibu belt and Sanbagawa belt in the Outer zone of the SW Japan arc. Whole-rock geochemistry results show that the rhyolite and dacite samples are peraluminous, belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series, show LREE and LILE enrichment, HREE and HFSE depletion that suggest arc volcanic affinity. The lamprophyre samples belong to alkali lamprophyre, show LREE and HFSE enrichments, and display OIB (oceanic island basalt)-like geochemical features. The 206Pb/238U weighted mean ages of the zircons from the rhyolite and dacite samples range from 14.39 ± 0.21 Ma to 13.92 ± 0.30 Ma, whereas the lamprophyre shows 206Pb/238U weighted mean age of 12.21 ± 0.35 Ma. Zircon Lu-Hf isotope data suggest that the rhyolite and dacite were derived from the remelting of the arc crustal rocks and that the lamprophyre was derived from depleted mantle sources and was contaminated by crustal materials. The felsic volcanic rocks (rhyolite and dacite) can be correlated to Miocene (15.5 Ma to 13.5 Ma) magmatism in the Outer Zone of the SW Japan arc. The formation of lamprophyre dykes in the SW Japan arc may be related to the subhorizontal mantle flows beneath the SW Japan arc associated with the opening of the Japan Sea back-arc basin or asthenosphere upwelling through the slab-tear of the Philippine Sea Plate beneath the SW Japan arc. Permian mafic dikes crop out widely within Beishan area in the southernmost Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). These mantle-derived products provide important clues for elucidating the genesis and geodynamic setting of Permian magmatism. The mafic dikes within the Beishan area display zircons U–Pb ages of 281 ± 4 Ma. Characterized by low SiO2 (44.88–47.73 wt.%) and high Mg# values (62.2–68.6), the type 1 dikes are relatively depleted in light rare earth elements (LREEs; (La/Yb)n = 0.72–1.43) but enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs). They show high positive εNd(t) values (6.6–8.5) with a range of (87Sr/86Sr)i (0.703477–0.705789) ratios. In contrast, the type 2 dikes have higher SiO2 content (47.47–51.13 wt.%) and lower Mg# (40.9–63.0). They are enriched in LREEs ((La/Yb)n = 1.79–5.02) and LILEs, and have lower εNd(t) values (3.8–7.4) with a variable range of (87Sr/86Sr)i (0.702873–0.706949) ratios. Thus, the type 1 dikes resulted from lower degrees of fractional crystallization and contamination than the type 2 dikes. Considering the LILEs and Pb enrichments, high field strength elements depletions, and high Ba/Th (86–460) ratios, the mantle source was metasomatized by subduction-related fluids. These dikes should be derived from high degrees (>20%) of partial melting of a Sr–Nd isotope-depleted, phlogopite-bearing spinel lherzolite lithospheric mantle according to their high Rb/Sr (0.04–0.24), low Ba/Rb (0.9–3.3), low La/Sm, and constant Sm/Yb ratios in addition to Sr–Nd depletion. Combined with the coeval evidence of regional geology and novel tectonic discriminate diagrams, we suggest that the mafic dikes in Beishan area formed in arc-related setting rather than intracontinental setting during the Permian. The metasomatized lithospheric mantle by subduction-related fluids were heated by upwelling asthenosphere mantle triggered by the slab roll-back, resulting in the formation of the parental magma of the mafic dikes. The Nkout banded iron formations (BIFs)-hosted iron deposit is located in the Ntem Complex at the northwestern part of the Congo craton, southern Cameroon. We report geochronological and geochemical data of magnetite BIFs and interlayered mica schists from the Nkout iron ore deposit. The BIFs show typical features of chemical precipitates characterized by seawater-like shale-normalized rare earth elements plus yttrium spectra. Weak positive Eu anomalies indicate the contribution of high-temperature hydrothermal fluids to the BIFs, with low detrital input. The absence of true Ce anomalies indicates that the BIFs were likely to be deposited in anoxic seawater. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb detrital zircon data for the BIFs and associated metasiliciclasltic rocks constrained the maximum depositional age at ca. 2.8 Ga, suggesting that the Nkout BIFs are likely the oldest iron formations in the Ntem Complex. Our zircon U-Pb isotope data indicate that the Nkout succession experienced lower-amphibolite facies metamorphism at ca. 2.0 Ga, which correlates with the regional tectono-thermal event linked to the convergence and assembly of terranes between the Congo and São Francisco cratons during the Eburnean-Transamazonian orogeny. The Eastern Pontide Orogenic Belt (EPOB), a well-preserved palaeo-magmatic arc, exists south of the Black Sea, from Bulgaria to Georgia. The region, which forms an essential part of the Alpine-Himalayan belt, contains volcanic rocks formed in the Late Cretaceous. This paper aims to investigate the petrogenesis of the Late Cretaceous volcanic rocks using both new and previously existing geochemical and geochronological data. Based on the geochemical features, the studied volcanics are divided into Group I (dacite/rhyolite) and Group II (basalt/basaltic andesite). According to LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb data, the crystallization age of Group I is 83.43 ± 0.87 Ma. The εNd(t) values of Group I are −1.4 and + 4.5, and the εNd(t) value of Group II is +3.0. The Lu–Hf isotope data from zircon shows that Group I have positive εHf(t) values (+14.20 - +12.15), and their crustal model age is 240–339 Ma. The εHf(t) values indicate that the Group I rocks are derived from the melting of a depleted mantle source. Whole-rock geochemistry data show that Group II samples were formed by partial melting of metasomatised spinel-bearing lherzolites at shallow depths. It is thought that the Late Cretaceous volcanic rocks are the products of arc magmatism associated with the northward subduction of the Neotethys oceanic lithosphere under the Eurasian plate, and the EPOB was an active continental margin arc during the Late Cretaceous. During the Late Cretaceous, a magmatic arc extended from the Lesser Caucasus through the northern margin of the Pontides into Srednogorie, Timok, Banat, and Apuseni (ABTS) in the Balkans for a distance of 2700 km. We studied the arc volcanic rocks in three regions in the Western Pontides and reviewed the geological data on the Lesser Caucasus-Pontide-ABTS magmatic arc, which shows several common features. Prior to the start of the arc magmatism, the region underwent uplift and erosion. New and published geochronologic and biostratigraphic data show that magmatism in the Lesser Caucasus-Pontide-ABTS arc started in the Turonian (ca. 93 Ma) peaked in the middle Campanian (80–78 Ma) and became rare and sporadic after the late Campanian (ca. 75 Ma). Magmatism was dominantly calc-alkaline to high-K calc-alkaline and shows typical subduction geochemical signatures. Late Cretaceous volcanism took place in a submarine and extensional environment. In the Lesser Caucasus-Pontide-ABTS belt, the arc volcanic rocks are overlain by Maastrichtian to Palaeocene marine limestones and sandstones, marking the end of the main phase of arc magmatism. However, in the Kefken region in the Western Pontides, Maastrichtian limestone sequence includes a volcanic horizon with a U-Pb zircon age of ca. 71 Ma. The Maastrichtian volcanic rocks show a more varied geochemistry than the older arc volcanic rocks, and include alkaline basalts, calc-alkaline basalts, and adakites. The coeval start of arc magmatism in the 2700-km-long Lesser Caucasus-Pontide-ABTS belt is related to the inception of the Africa-Eurasia convergence at ca. 96 Ma, which is also independently indicated by the beginning of intra-oceanic subduction, inferred from the ages of sub-ophiolite metamorphic rocks in Anatolia. The end of magmatism is linked to a marked decrease in the convergence rate during the Campanian, which was also partitioned between the northern and southern Tethyan subduction zones. The Dakrong-A Luoi area is located in the South Truong Son belt in the Indochina block and has been affected by multiple stages of magmatic-metamorphic events. In this paper, Paleozoic-Mesozoic granitoids from the Dakrong-A Luoi area were studied using LA ICP-MS U-Pb zircon geochronologies, Hf isotopes on zircon and whole-rock geochemistry of the Paleozoic to examine the tectonic-magmatic history of the Southern Truong Son belt. The magmatism history of the area can be divided into three phases, at ~ 452 Ma (Ordovician), ~259 Ma (Permian), and ~ 243 Ma (Triassic). The Ordovician granites were exposed in the narrow belt of NW-SE trending, while the later two granite phases were exposed in E-W trending. The Ordovician granites show consistent LA-ICP-MS zircon ꜪHf(t) values from + 6.2 to + 8.3. Their corresponding Hf model ages (TDM2) from 0.9 Ga to 1.0 Ga suggest that the Ordovician granite was derived from the partial melting of ancient crustal rocks, which is related to the subduction of the Tam Ky-Phuoc Son (TKPS) ocean beneath the Truong Son belt. The Permian granites have Hf isotopic natures (ꜪHf(t)=-1.6 to 1.3, TDM2 = 1.2–1.3 Ga) of partial melting from ancient mantle components with minor Paleoproterozoic ancient continental crust The Triassic granites have negative ɛHf(t) values ranging from −11.9 to −7.0 and Hf model ages of 1.7–2.0 Ga suggesting that they were a product of partial melting from the Paleoproterozoic crust, corresponding to subduction/collision of the Paleo-Tethys ocean beneath the Indochina block along the Song Ma suture. The plain around the intraplate Changbaishan Tianchi volcano in NE China includes monogenetic cones whose shallowest plumbing system consists of dikes, and three main phases of activity are recognized since 2.8 Ma. The monogenetic volcanism mainly developed in the shield-forming phase (2.8–0.3 Ma), but the age and geochemical features of many of these vents remain poorly known. Here, we present geochemical, Sr‒Nd‒Pb isotopic and zircon trace element data from two dikes feeding monogenetic vents located north and northwest of the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano. Our aim is to constrain the emplacement age, the magma evolution processes, and the mantle source. We compare our results with those from the Jingbohu and Longgang monogenetic vents located north and west of the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano to investigate possible mantle heterogeneities in the recent NE China volcanism. The two Changbaishan dikes have 230Th disequilibrium-corrected ages of 1.27 and 1.00 Ma and show a basaltic composition with a potassic affinity. The Mg# values are 35.48–34.27 and 66.09–65.79. The whole-rock compositions, trace element compositions, and Sr‒Nd variations are consistent with fractional crystallization and minor contamination with lower crustal material, indicating an OIB-like mantle source with an EMI component possibly related to fluids released from the underlying Pacific flat slab. The melting depth determined from Na/Ti and Sm/Yb is between 140 and 180 km, i.e. the asthenospheric mantle. The dikes are characterized by (K2O+Na2O)/δEu, La/Ba, Ba/Nb, La/Sm, and La/Nb values similar to those of the Jingbohu and Longgang basaltic rocks. We conclude that the NE China volcanism at approximately 1 Ma was related to a single, relatively homogeneous OIB-like mantle source modified by ascending slab-derived fluids. High-grade granitoid gneisses (740–710 Ma) and elongate bodies of amphibolite and hornblende schist with cm-scale layers of garnet pyroxenite form an overturned fold in the Gabal Um Gunud area, South Eastern Desert of Egypt. Whole-rock geochemical data combined with zircon U-Pb-Hf isotope data suggest that the metabasites represent relics of oceanic crust with an N-MORB affinity, which has been derived from partial melting (2.0–1.4 GPa; ~65- ~ 45 km depth) of a depleted mantle source beneath an intra-oceanic, spreading forearc basin. Such increment of melting degree resulted in small basaltic melt batches with transitional tholeiitic to boninitic affinities. Progressive slab subduction and partial melting of the tholeiitic amphibolite produced high-Al and low HREE melts for trondhjemite at av. T = 854°C and low-Al and high HREE melts for tonalite at higher temperatures (av. 949°C). The low Mg# of the trondhjemite-tonalite rocks may be attributed to limited contamination of subduction components, as evidenced by the weak lanthanide tetrad effects (TE1,3~1) and near-chondritic Zr/Hf, Nb/Ta, and Y/Ho ratios, while the garnet pyroxenite was the residuum produced in equilibrium with the trondhjemite-tonalite melts. The Santos Basin comprises the most voluminous hydrocarbon accumulations in its 'Pre-salt' reservoirs. Magmatic rocks have been recorded in the basin mostly by the tholeiitic basalts (Camboriú Formation) within its rift megasequence at Hauterivian time. Recent studies have shown that magmatic rocks are also found interbedded with Aptian sedimentary rocks in the basin, related to its post-rift (mostly Aptian) megasequence. This paper presents petrological data obtained from sidewall core samples of magmatic rocks interbedded with Early Aptian coquina in a well drilled in the Santos Basin. The well comprises six magmatic sections of alkaline basalts being overlain and underlain by the Barra Velha limestones. The basalts are mostly plagioclase-phyric, amygdaloidal rocks but vary in texture and modal compositions. Magmatic compositions seem to have been slightly affected by alteration processes. Basalts comprise an alkaline, miaskitic series with relatively evolved compositions (MgO = 5.55 ± 1.50 wt%; Ni < 220 ppm; Cr < 400 ppm). The patterns in the Primitive Mantle normalized multielement diagram displays the typical Nb peak (0.3 < La/Nb(N)<0.7) of the OIB. Geochemical modelling showed that basalts within five magmatic sections are not cogenetic by differentiation, representing basaltic flows emitted from different vents. Modal batch partial melting model indicates that it is possible, although unlikely, to generate the differences in La/Yb(N) and Zr/Y ratios of the least evolved samples in the studied well by different partial melting degrees (0.5–11%) from the same mantle source. Binary mixing models using lithogeochemical datapoint to a role for the Tristan da Cunha plume tail in the petrogenesis of the alkaline basalts with no clear evidence for a possible role for the local subcontinental lithospheric mantle. Across western and northern Chukotka, a region spanning 400 000 km2, we have defined three different tectono-magmatic systems that were active during the Aptian-Albian (123–100 Ma) time span: (1) the Tytylveem post-collisional belt (123–105 Ma); (2) the Chaun province of extension-related magmatism (109–100 Ma); and (3) the earliest eruptive units (106–100 Ma) of the subduction-related Okhotsk-Chukotka volcanic belt (OCVB). The observed tectono-magmatic systems are characterized by their location and by their different chemical and isotopic compositions. The general enrichment of magma sources successively increases from the OCVB to the Tytylveem belt and then to the Chaun province. While the Tytylveem belt was active, the volcanic loci shifted northwest along the strike of the belt, perhaps because of diachronous delamination of the lithosphere of the once present, but extinct, South Anyui ocean. On the scale of the entire region of NE Asia, the tectonic re-arrangement that controlled magmatism in the Early Cretaceous was marked by the extinction of major subduction zones on the periphery of the closing Oimyakon and South Anyui oceanic basins followed by magmatic events likely caused by lithospheric delamination and/or extension. In the region of Pichilemu (Central Chile), the exhumed roots of the Carboniferous paleo-accretionary wedge developed during subduction of an oceanic realm underneath the western Gondwana margin are exposed. We focus on the areas of Infiernillo beach and Punta de Lobos: the former representing a well-characterized transitional blueschist-facies coherent stack of metabasitic lithologies interlayered at the centimetre- to metre-scale within metasedimentary rocks and glaucophanites, whereas the latter corresponds to a massive, up to hundreds of metres thick, strained metapillow lavas edifice surrounded (not interlayered) by metasedimentary rocks. We provide new field, geochemical, Raman thermometry and zircon SHRIMP U-Th-Pb geochronology on the lithologies forming the Infiernillo-Punta de Lobos complex aiming at characterizing the sedimentary sources and the extent of mechanical mixing. Field observations suggest that the Infiernillo-Punta de Lobos complex can be considered as part of the same successions, subducted and basally accreted almost coherently at high pressure-low temperature (HP-LT) conditions. The geochemistry signal in metasedimentary rocks and maximum deposition ages point to a marked forearc source for all the metasedimentary and glaucophanite lithologies, whereas massive metapillow lavas and greenschists might represent volcanic products and oceanic roughnesses erupted near the trench when the oceanic material approached the Gondwana margin at c. 329 Ma. It is suggested that the interlayering now observed in the field is mostly the consequence of sedimentary and/or volcanic processes close to the trench environment, with minor tectonic reworking of the pre-subduction structures (e.g. lithological contacts). Our results suggest that the Punta de Lobos edifice is closely related to the subduction of large volumes of continent-derived, trench-filling sediments towards HP-LT conditions. Thus, in line with previous experimental and numerical simulations, we emphasize the potential role of oceanic roughness as stress perturbations that could contribute to the subduction of thick sedimentary sequences, and discuss their implications for seismogenesis. The formation and distribution of late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in northeast (NE) China remain unclear due to the superimposed influence of the tectonic regimes of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean (MOO) and Palaeo-Pacific Ocean (PPO) in Northeast Asia. This study reports the petrogenesis and tectonic settings of Early Cretaceous volcanic rocks from the Erlian Basin (EB) using petrology, geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes. The U–Pb data for the magmatic zircons indicate that the volcanic rocks, including the trachytic rocks and rhyolites, erupted approximately at ~141–135 Ma. Trachytic rocks and rhyolites exhibit comparatively high SiO2 (58.74–65.77 wt. % and 71.35–72.99 wt. %, respectively) and alkali content, low Mg values (mean 25 and 24, respectively), and Cr, Co, and Ni contents, which differ from the geochemical characteristics of mantle-derived magmas. Furthermore, the positive εHf(t) (1.7–10.5) and εNd(t) (2.4–2.9) values of trachytic rocks and the positive εHf(t) values (4.3–6.6) of rhyolites indicate that these rocks were derived from the partial melting of the juvenile crustal materials. The relatively homogeneous zircon Hf isotopes and systematic variation of major and trace elements in these coeval volcanic rocks suggest that they have a common magma source and resulted from the development of the parent magma in the crustal magma chamber. Our results, combined with previous studies, demonstrate that Early Cretaceous volcanism in the EB records an extensional tectonic regime caused by lithospheric delamination after the closure of the MOO. The Indus Suture Zone preserves the ophiolitic remnants of the eastern part of the Neo-Tethys Ocean. Parts of these ophiolitic remnants are exposed along the Khangral-Chiktan and Dras-Kargil road sections of western Ladakh. The observed rock types include ultramafic-mafic cumulates, gabbros, and volcanics emplaced as faulted blocks over the Mesozoic Dras arc complex. Geochemically, these rocks show sub-alkaline tholeiitic characteristics with basalt to basaltic-andesite compositional variation. Based on modal mineralogy, the ultramafic cumulates classify as olivine-websterite, the mafic cumulates as olivine-norite, and the gabbros as norite to hornblende-gabbro. The ultramafic cumulates depict depleted chondrite normalized REE patterns [(La/Yb)N = 0.6–1.1] while the mafic cumulates display depleted to enriched REE patterns [(La/Yb)N = 0.6–3.2]. Fractionated patterns are observed in gabbros [(La/Yb)N = 1.6–4.1], while flat and enriched chondrite normalized REE-patterns in volcanics [(La/Yb)N = 1.0–12.3] similar to NMORB, and EMORB. The multi-element patterns depict subduction-related geochemical characteristics such as enriched LILE and depleted HFSE compared to the primitive mantle. Presence of Mg-rich olivines, orthopyroxenes, and clinopyroxenes while Ti-poor clinopyroxenes in ultramafic-mafic cumulates reflect their derivation from previously depleted mantle sources at high-pressure and temperature comparable to the base of modern intra-oceanic island arc tholeiitic sequences. The Eastern Pontides in NE Turkey hosts a very limited number of plutonic rocks from the Jurassic period. Here we submit new geochemical, Sr-Nd-Pb and zircon Lu-Hf isotope data, and zircon U-Pb ages for plutonic rocks in this region. Zircon U-Pb dating for the Alemdar and Işıkdere plutons yielded an age of 175–170 Ma (Middle Jurassic). The Alemdar and Işıkdere plutons have I-type, medium to high-K calc-alkaline series, and metaluminous to slightly peraluminous characteristics. On PM-normalized diagrams, the plutons are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) with pronounced depletion of high field strength elements (HFSEs, Ta, Nb, Ti). Chondrite-normalized plots for the plutons show variable enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREEs) with depletion of heavy rare earth elements (HREEs). The rocks of the Alemdar Pluton have homogeneous ISr values (0.70585 to 0.70673), low εNd(i) values (−3.9 to −1.6), pozitif εHf(i) values (+3.3 to +9.1), and Hf single-stage model ages (563–712 Ma), whereas those of Işıkdere have high ISr values (0.70666 to 0.70673), low εNd(i) values (−3.9 to −3.8), εHf(i) values (−3.1 to +1.1), and Hf single-stage model ages (791–969 Ma). These values imply that they have different sources. These results suggest that the magma of the Alemdar was formed by the partial melting of a relatively depleted lithospheric mantle wedge interaction of the OIB-like melts, while those of Işıkdere have derived from the partial melting of an enriched mantle metasomatized by slab-derived sediments and then modified by fractional crystallization and crustal contamination in crustal magma chambers. Considering the available data, we conclude that the studied plutons were related to extensional tectonic events during the Middle Jurassic in response to the roll-back of the Paleotethys oceanic slab in the final stage of oceanic closure. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (E-KOB) documents successive subduction and accretion processes of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean. However, the tectonic regime of the E-KOB at the late orogenic stage remains ambiguous. This study presents new results of whole-rock geochemistry and zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes of the Xidatan pluton in the southern E-KOB. Detailed investigation reveals that the pluton is composed of quartz monzodiorite, host monzogranite, and igneous microgranular enclaves (IMEs). Zircon U-Pb dating results suggest that they are coeval magmatic rocks emplaced at ca. 206–203 Ma. Geochemical studies reveal that the quartz monzodiorite and IMEs share a common magma source, evidenced by consistent compositions of major elements, congruently enriched LREEs and LILEs, and consistently moderately depleted HFSEs and HREEs. Enriched to slightly juvenile zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = −4.24 to +0.49) indicate that the primitive magmas of the quartz monzodiorite and IMEs involve the addition of mantle-derived magmas. The quartz monzodiorite and IMEs have identical ages, and consistent isotope features with the host monzogranite, together with the observation of ingestion of xenocrysts from host felsic rocks into the IMEs indicating that they were produced through the mixing of the mantle-derived mafic magmas and host felsic magmas. In contrast, The host monzogranite has moderately high SiO2 and Na2O+K2O, but low Fe2O3T and MgO contents. It shows crust-like trace element patterns such as strong enrichments in LREEs and LILEs, but remarkable depletions in HREEs. Along with enriched zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = −3.51 to −0.25), the host monzogranite was most likely to have originated from partial melting of lower crustal mafic rocks induced by underplated mantle-derived magmas. Considering abundant Late Triassic igneous rocks across the E-KOB, these new data provide further evidence that the Late Triassic magmatism in the E-KOB may be related to the delamination of thickened orogenic root under an extensional setting. The East Sulawesi Ophiolite, one of the three largest ophiolites in the world, contains important podiform chromitites. However, the origin of these chromite deposits is not well constrained. Here, we present the detailed mineralogy and in situ chemistry of chromite and solid inclusions within chromite for podiform chromitites from the Kabaena Island, Southeast Sulawesi. Chromite grains have low TiO2 (0.17–0.27 wt%) and Al2O3 (13.4–15.1 wt%) contents and high Cr# [Cr/(Cr+Al), molar] of 0.70–0.74 and Mg# [Mg/(Mg+Fe2+), molar] of 0.69–0.75, which resemble those of other high-Cr podiform chromitites worldwide. The MORB-normalized patterns for some selected major-trace elements of chromite show slightly positive slopes from Al2O3 to Mn. Chromite-hosted silicate inclusions include olivine, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and amphibole and are characterized by higher Mg/Fe ratios than those of host peridotites. The geothermobarometry of chromite-hosted clinopyroxene-orthopyroxene pairs indicates that the estimated T-P conditions of the parental magma of the Kabaena chromitites are 950–1010°C and 7.0–8.4 Kbar. The extreme-Mg-rich olivine inclusions (Fo >96) with extremely high Ni (5300–8200 ppm) and Cr (1500–6700 ppm) contents are interpreted to have crystallized from high-Mg and Cr boninitic melts, and the Fo contents were then elevated by subsolidus re-equilibration (Fe–Mg and Fe–Ni exchange) with chromite. Sulfide inclusions contain base metal minerals containing millerite with rare pentlandite and chalcopyrite, and platinum-group minerals that include the laurite-erlichmanite series, Ir–Ni monosulfide, irarsite and cuproiridsite. This sulfide assemblage reveals that their parental magmas experienced the evolution of high T and low f(S2) to low T and high f(S2) from the early to late stage. Finally, combined with the palaeogeographic reconstruction in Sulawesi, we propose that the high-Cr chromitites in this region were formed by the reaction of depleted mantle and boninitic magma beneath a juvenile island arc, implying the initiation of a new subduction in the Miocene. Lamprophyre is one of the most important probes to understand the enrichment and depletion processes of the lithospheric evolution. Determining the age and petrogenesis of lamprophyres could provide critical data for deducing the timing and process of lithospheric revolution of the Sulu Orogenic Belt (SOB) and North China Craton (NCC). In this study, the Taolin lamprophyre in SOB was delineated by zircon U–Pb dating with the ages of 126 Ma. This lamprophyre is characterized by high contents of SiO2 and total alkali contents (Na2O + K2O), low Mg# value, low contents of total Fe2O3, MgO, and compatible elements, enriched in LREE and LILE but strong depleted in HFSE, as well as enriched Sr–Nd and depleted Pb isotope compositions (87Sr/86Sr(i) = 0.707757 to 0.708048, εNd(t) = – 13.0 to – 12.7, 206Pb/204Pb(t) ratios of 16.934 to 17.000, 207Pb/204Pb(t) of 15.435 to 15.442, and 208Pb/204Pb(t) of 37.682 to 37.706). Interpretations of whole-rock elemental data suggest the Taolin lamprophyre was derived from 1% to 5% partial melting of spinel peridotite; and MELTS modelling indicates fractional crystallization of ~16.7% orthopyroxene and ~16.6% clinopyroxene under 1.5 Gbar. Based on the analyses of Neoproterozoic relic zircons and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic components of the Taolin lamprophyre and adjacent lamprophyres, we put forwards that there are several subducted crustal materials were trapped into the SOB lithospheric mantle, and the magma source of these lamprophyres might have experienced metasomatic processes not only by the hydrous fluids derived from the subducting Paleo–Pacific oceanic crust in the Jurassic, but also by melts derived from partial melting of the subducting South China continental crust in the Triassic. A geodynamic trigger for generation of the Taolin lamprophyre is proposed to be related to lithospheric thinning coupled with asthenospheric upwelling beneath the North China Craton. Mesozoic igneous rocks are widely distributed in the South China Sea (SCS) and its adjacent areas and are exposed in the SCS, South China, Hainan, Indochina, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Borneo; these rocks are mostly dominated by granitoids. This paper presents a complete map of the Mesozoic igneous rocks of the SCS and its adjacent areas. This paper also presents an analysis of geological survey and published data in terms of seismic profiles, ages, geochemistry and isotopic systematics of the Mesozoic igneous complexes of the SCS and its adjacent areas. Three periods of igneous activity can be distinguished: (1) Permian – Triassic that spans from 250–201 Ma; (2) Jurassic (201–145 Ma); and (3) Latest Jurassic/Cretaceous to Maastrichtian (145–66 Ma), of which the Cretaceous is the best preserved and could possibly be the most widespread. Triassic igneous rocks are distributed in the northwestern and southern SCS (Qiongdongnan Basin, Yinggehai-Song Hong Basin, Beibu Gulf Basin, the Dangerous Grounds, and the Reed Bank); Jurassic igneous rocks are distributed in the northern and southern SCS (Pearl River Mouth Basin, Qiongdongnan Basin, Yinggehai-Song Hong Basin, Beibu Gulf Basin, and the Reed Bank); and Cretaceous igneous rocks are distributed in the northern, western and southern SCS. The igneous activity of the SCS is mostly distributed in the continent slope. Mesozoic igneous rocks of the SCS include at least 350 rock masses: the smallest being 0.182 km2, the largest being 5,5,502 km2, and the total area covering 688,539 km2. Mesozoic magmatism in the SCS and its adjacent areas migrated oceanward (southeastward). Our new seismic profiles and the wells from the literature highlight that Jurassic granites occur not only inland of South China but also in coastal South China and the northern and southern SCS. The YING6 well in the northern SCS encountered andesite with an age of 68.24 Ma, which is the youngest age found for the SCS Mesozoic volcanic rocks. The XY1 well in the western SCS encountered granite with an age of 68.9 Ma, which is the youngest age found for the SCS Mesozoic intrusive rocks. The WZ12-3-1 well in the northern SCS encountered granite with an age of 243.3 Ma, which is the oldest age found for the SCS Mesozoic intrusive rocks. The encountered dacite ages (219.1 ± 1.4 Ma) of the NK-1 well in the southern SCS were the oldest ages found for the SCS Mesozoic volcanic rocks. The thickest Mesozoic igneous rocks (>1022.5 m) were encountered in the NK-1 well. Igneous rocks in the SCS and its adjacent areas are closely related to tectonic movements such as faults, plate movement, and mantle-derived igneous fluid ascent. The West Junggar terrain (WJT), as a crucial part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), is distributed with numerous igneous rocks, which provide critical information for crustal growth. However, the closure of the Junggar Ocean (JO) and the beginning of the postcollisional tectonic stage of the WJT have been controversial. This study delimited the regional lithologic units based on remote sensing geological mapping and recognized a series of bimodal volcanic rocks (BVR) in Hala'alate Mountain of the WJT. LA-ICP‒MS zircon U‒Pb geochronology and geochemistry were used to discuss the petrogenesis of the BVR and determine the stage of regional tectonic evolution. Geochronological results yield crystallization ages of 302 ± 4 Ma, 298 ± 2 Ma, 304 ± 1 Ma, and 303 Ma± 2 Ma for the basaltic andesite, basalt, and two rhyolitic samples, respectively. Basalts and basaltic andesites are calc-alkaline, and display enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and depletion in high field strength elements (HFSEs). Notably, basaltic andesites in this area were once misjudged as sanukitoids owing to their low contents of Mg#, Ni, Cr, and other characteristics that are inconsistent with the typical definition of sanukitoids. The rhyolites are A2-type granitoids with high SiO2 contents and are depleted in Nb, Ta, P, Ti, and Sr, showing enriched LREE patterns with negative Eu anomalies. These features indicate that the magma of the mafic end-member of the BVR is derived from the partial melting of the depleted lithospheric mantle, whereas the felsic end-member magma can be associated with the remelting of the lower crust due to the upwelling and underplating of mafic magma. In combination with previous studies of simultaneous basic dikes and felsic rocks, a postcollisional tectonic stage was proposed for the WTJ during the late Carboniferous, suggesting that the JO was closed. In this paper, we present an integrated study of petrology, zircon U–Pb geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and zircon Lu–Hf isotopes for the basic–intermediate dykes in the western Gonghe basin, northeastern Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. LA–MC–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating indicates that these dykes were emplaced in the Middle Triassic (240 ± 1.6 Ma). Geochemically, these basic–intermediate dykes are characterized by enrichments in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g. K, Rb, and Pb), coupled with depletions in high-field-strength elements (HFSEs; e.g. Nb, Ta, and Ti). These geochemical features, along with the relatively low zircon εHf values (−7.2 to 1.6), suggest that these mafic dykes were originated from enriched mantle metasomatized by subduction-related fluids in a back-arc extensional environment. Literature investigations indicate that Middle Triassic mafic dykes are widespread in central China and are geochemically of arc affinities. Therefore, a regional back-arc extensional event occurred in central China during Middle Triassic time, which was likely caused by rollback of the subducting Kunlun–Animaqin Paleo-Tethyan slab. The Meghalaya Gneissic Complex (MGC) of northeast India is a little-studied high-grade metamorphic terrain, located close to the Late Palaeoproterozoic to early Neoproterozoic orogenic front. We include mapping, petrography, mineral chemistry, geochemistry, phase equilibria modelling, and U-Th-total Pb monazite geochronology to investigate the evolutionary history of deformed and metamorphosed ortho- and para-gneisses from the central MGC. The metapelite and metamafic rocks of the MGC are folded to E-W upright, antiforms-synforms; and intruded by charnockites during progressive deformations. Reconstructing the metamorphic history of pelite (garnet-cordierite granulite) and two pyroxene granulite, using a TiMnNCKFMASH and TiNCKFMASHO system, reveals a clockwise P–T path where the peak metamorphism was associated with mid crustal burial heating to granulite facies (~825°C and 5.5 to 6.5 kbar) and subsequent cooling with a minor decompression (~ 816°C and 5.3 kbar). Chemically zoned monazites were grown episodically during 1035 ± 13 Ma (n = 21), 976 ± 14 Ma (n = 16), and 494 ± 14 Ma (n = 26). The granulite metamorphism here initiated at 1035 ± 13 Ma and reached thermal peak at 976 ± 14 Ma. This contribution emphasizes the importance of late Mesoproterozoic to early Neoproterozoic metamorphic evolution of the MGC related to the collision of North and South Indian cratonic blocks. The studied P-T path differs from the previously reported Meso- to early Neoproterozoic paths of Central and Western India and close to Western Australia. This finding further explains the change in the early Neoproterozoic collisional pattern of the Central Indian Suture in extreme east (near MGC) and its significance in reconstructing the western Rodinia. The Naxiguole Banded Iron Formation (BIF), located in the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt, Northwest China, is hosted by the Jinshuikou Group and has a Fe of 75 Mt at a grade of 15–28.83 wt.% Fe. In this paper, we use integrated petrological, geochemical, and geochronological data to limit the age and origin of the Naxiguole BIF. Country rocks mainly comprise marble, felsic paragneiss, plagioclase amphibolite schist, and biotite plagioclase gneiss. The features of sedimentary structure (blastopsammitic texture and blastobedding structure) and trace elements (e.g. La, Ni, Zr) from the country rock indicate that their protoliths are sedimentary rock. The 141 detrital zircons from the Jinshuikou Group yield a minimum age of 908 Ma, which can be considered the upper limit for the Naxiguole BIF. According to the age (602 Ma) of the mafic rocks intruding into the Jinshuikou Group, it is reasonable to assume that the formation age of BIF can be limited at 908–602 Ma (i.e. Neoproterozoic). The high contents of Al2O3 + TiO2 (3–6 wt.%), ΣREE (36–135 ppm) for BIF samples suggest that terrestrial clastic material contributed to BIF formation. The BIF samples show seawater-like features, such as depletion in LREEs, positive Y anomaly and high Y/Ho ratios (30.7–57.5, average = 42.5), implying that the Naxiguole BIF precipitated from seawater. The positive Eu/Eu*PAAS anomalies (average 1.52) suggest the influence of high-T hydrothermal fluids. Based on positive Eu anomalies and high terrestrial clastic components and no obvious Ce anomalies, the Naxiguole BIF was formed in an anoxic or suboxic sedimentary basin within active continental island arc, and is similar to Superior-type BIFs worldwide. As relics of oceanic lithosphere, ophiolites exposed in the East Kunlun region are crucial for deciphering the evolution from the Proto-Tethys to the Paleo-Tethys. Two ophiolite belts have been recognized in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt: the northern Heishan-Dagele-Qingshuiquan Ophiolite Belt and the southern Muzitag-A'nyemaqen Ophiolite Belt. Most basaltic rocks in the northern ophiolite belt show apparent geochemical features of enriched mid-ocean ridge basalts, with some of suprasubduction zone-type affinity, and probably formed in arc to back-arc settings with ages of 537–406 Ma. Cumulates (wehrlites) and arc-related volcanics in these ophiolite complexes also display a subduction-related signature. However, most basalts in the southern ophiolite belt exhibit characteristics of mid-ocean ridge basalts and plume-related basalts, which are unrelated to subduction zone. The anhydrous troctolite outcrops in the southern belt also support this viewpoint. Statistics of all the available age data for the southern ophiolites indicate two cycles of seafloor spreading or plume activity, which gave rise to two main epochs of magmatic activity at 535–450 Ma and 345–308 Ma, respectively. The northern ophiolite belt recorded the evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean from at least the Early Cambrian to the Late Silurian. Based on geochronological and geochemical comparisons, the southern ophiolite belt shows similarities with the ophiolites in the Longmucuo-Shuanghu suture of Qiangtang on the south, which record the closure of Proto-Tethys Ocean and the opening of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. The spatial and temporal distribution of the two ophiolite belts in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt reveals the long-lived evolution from the Proto-Tethys to Paleo-Tethys system. The Junggar Basin was an intracontinental basin enclosed by multiple orogenies in the Mesozoic. Unravelling the provenances development in the western Junggar Basin enclosed by the West Junggar Orogenic Belt (WJOB) and Tianshan Orogenic Belt (TSOB) would elucidate the exhumation history of these orogenic belts during the post-orogenic period. The TSOB includes Central Tianshan which includes a continental block with the Precambrian to early Palaeozoic metamorphic basements, while the WJOB includes Palaeozoic accretionary complexes. Given their contrasting geological histories, we use detrital garnets, metamorphic ilmenites, epidotes, and Precambrian zircons to distinguish the TSOB and detrital Cr-spinel to distinguish the WJOB. Combined with sedimentary analysis, palaeocurrents, heavy mineral data, seismic profiles, and zircon U-Pb geochronology, here we reconstruct a four-phase source-to-sink model. During the syn-rift phase, the southern basin was stably fed by the TSOB in the Triassic, evidenced by high Garnet-zircon index and stable single-peak Carboniferous detrital zircon age spectra. During the post-rift sag basin phase, the source-to-sink system experienced a significant change, because detrital zircon age spectra change into multiple peaks. During the transpressional basin phase, the WJOB replaced the TSOB as the dominant provenance in the late Middle Jurassic and the TSOB became the dominant provenance again in the Late Jurassic. Syndepositional volcanic materials provided a large amount of sediments. During the sag basin phase, lake transgression happened and the TSOB provenance could not reach the northern basin. We concluded that the WJOB experienced transpression and obvious denudation in the late Middle Jurassic, and the TSOB uplifted under transpression in the Late Jurassic. The transpression controlled the change of major provenances. The aridification in the Late Jurassic was recorded by the decrease in the Zircon-Tourmaline-Rutile index and the increase in epidotes and magnetites. The evolution history of the Hegenshan Ocean is an important part of studying the evolution of the Xingmeng orogenic belt, but it is still controversial. Here we present an integrated study of petrology, zircon U–Pb geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd isotopes on a series of intrusive rocks from the Baiyinguole area, Xiwuqi, central Inner Mongolia, NE China. Chronological data indicate that the intrusive rocks can be divided into three stages: 326–317, 297–295, and 259–254 Ma. The 326–317-Ma gabbros and diorites belong to the calc-alkaline series, and are characterized by positive whole-rock εNd(t) values (+1.1–+6.7), relatively low La/Ba ratios (0.04–0.10), and high La/Nb ratios (1.82–3.18), indicating that the magma source is from a subduction-modified lithospheric mantle. These samples have arc features owing to the southward subduction of the Hegenshan oceanic crust. The 297–295-Ma granodiorites and monzogranites show positive εNd(t) values (+1.9–+2.4), low 87Sr/86Sri ratios (0.704185–0.705234), and young Nd two-stage model ages (TDM2), which is consistent with typical I-type granites. On various tectonic setting discrimination diagrams, the granodiorites and monzogranites are plotted in the syn-collisional field. The 259–254-Ma syenogranites have low abundances of mafic minerals, low contents of Zr/Hf (18.31–31.35) and Nb/Ta (6.80–11.80) values, high SiO2 (76.36–78.54 wt.%) content, A/CNK (1.08–1.76), and D.I. of 96.8–97.4 (average 97.1), and notable negative Eu anomalies (δEu* = 0.07–0.17) and weakly tetrad-effects in REE pattern, which is affinity to the characteristics of highly differentiated granites. Moreover, they have positive εNd(t) values (+2.0–+2.1) with scattered TDM2 of 730–1217 Ma and low Nb/U ratios. This study suggests that the syenogranites are formed in a post-collisional tectonic setting, which is related to the closure of the Hegenshan Ocean. A wide variety of deposit types formed in the late Palaeozoic-Mesozoic of eastern NE China and adjacent Russian Far East of the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). However, outstanding questions remain on the (1) number of magmatic and metallogenic phases, and their respective space–time distribution; (2) geochemical (incl. isotopic) signature and fertility of each magmatic phase; and (3) tectonic link with these magmato-metallogenic events. We present new data (zircon U-Pb dating, geochemistry, and Sr-Nd isotopes) on the Yangjingou W and Xiaoxi'nancha Au-Cu deposits, and compile published data from major ore deposits in the region. We have newly summarized four magmato-mineralization phases: (1) Middle Permian (ca. 273–259 Ma) Cu-Au-Pb-Zn, (2) Latest Permian-Early Triassic (ca. 253–247 Ma) W-Cu-Mo-Au, (3) Earliest-Middle Jurassic (ca. 201–162 Ma) Mo-Au-Fe-W-Pb-Zn, and (4) Cretaceous (ca. 129–83 Ma) W-Sn-Mo-Cu-Au mineralization. Cretaceous ore-causative granitoids are mainly I-type arc-related, whereas those for the three older mineralization phases are largely adakite-like or adakite-normal arc transitional. These granitoids were mostly derived from partial melting of juvenile crust, and to a lesser extent from a mixture of juvenile and ancient crust. We propose that the Middle Permian subduction of the Paleo-Asian and Panthalassa oceans formed the Au/Cu-Pb-Zn skarn and cryptoexplosive breccia-hosted Pb-Zn ± Ag deposits. Subsequently, the latest Permian-Early Triassic Paleo-Asian Ocean closure likely formed the porphyry-skarn Cu-Mo, orogenic Au, and vein-type W deposits in the Songliao and eastern Liaoyuan terranes. In the Early-Middle Jurassic, Paleo-Pacific subduction may have formed the Jiapigou orogenic Au belt and the Fe-polymetallic skarn deposits in the northern Songliao terrane, as well as porphyry Mo deposits along the Mudanjiang fault. Subsequently, Cretaceous W-Sn-Au-Cu metallogeny was controlled by Paleo-Pacific subduction rollback, and in the Russia Far East by partial melting of redox accretionary complexes. The Sapat Complex in Northern Pakistan contains remnants of the northern Neo-Tethys Ocean, presently exposed along the Indus Suture Zone. The mantle peridotites of the Sapat Complex include harzburgites, dunites, and subordinate lherzolites. Harzburgites are the dominant peridotite variety over dunites. The dunites are hosted by harzburgites and occur exclusively as 'envelopes' surrounding chromitite pods. The podiform chromitites show disseminated, banded, and massive textures. Chromitites exhibit variable Cr# [Cr/(Cr + Al)] and Mg# [Mg/(Mg + Fe2+)], which range from 0.76 to 0.77, and from 0.64 to 0.66, respectively, while TiO2 contents are <0.2 wt.%. These features perhaps reflect crystallization of the chromian spinel from a boninitic magma. Similarly, chromian spinel in peridotites manifest a wide range of Cr# and Mg#, from 0.49 to 0.83 and 0.41 to 0.57, respectively, and are characterized by very low TiO2 values, averaging at 0.1 wt.%. Chromian spinel of chromitites and peridotites of the Sapat Complex have also very low Fe3+# (<0.01), which indicate their crystallization under low oxygen fugacities. The platinum group elements (PGE) distributions show high (Os + Ir + Ru)/(Rh + Pt + Pd), very low Pd/Ir values, and are defined by a prominently fractionated chondritic normalized PGE pattern, hence, this deposit is a typical example of an ophiolitic chromitite. The studied peridotites are highly depleted in PGE compared to chondritic values. The PdN/IrN values, averaging to 1.5 in dunites are unfractionated, while PGE spidergrams of harzburgites and lherzolites depict minor positive slopes, a minor positive Ru anomaly, and have average PdN/IrN values of 2.3 and 2.4, respectively. Furthermore, the harzburgites, dunites, and lherzolites display generally flat chondritic and primitive mantle normalized PGE patterns, and therefore, are nearly identical to highly depleted mantle peridotites. The mineralogical and PGE geochemical imprints of Sapat Complex chromitites and peridotites establish a strong affinity to supra-subduction zone ophiolites. Moreover, calculated parental melts of the chromitites and various geochemical discrimination diagrams elucidate that the chromitites were derived from boninitic magma produced by melting of depleted mantle peridotites in an oceanic arc, characterized by low oxygen fugacity, similar to a supra-subduction zone tectonic setting. This research highlights the use of mineralogy and geochemical compositions of chromitites and peridotites to reveal deep magmatic processes in a supra-subduction zone environment. A tectonic switch from subduction to collision and/or arc–arc collision is a key issue for understanding accretionary orogenic processes. We present new U-Pb ages, geochemistry, whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf isotope data for a suite of late Carboniferous intrusive rocks along the Kalamaili suture zone of the southwestern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) and demonstrate their petrogenesis and the transition of their tectonic settings. Zircon U-Pb dating for the gabbros, diorites, granodiorites, and monzogranites yields ages of 317–301 Ma. The gabbros (311 Ma) were likely derived from partial melting of a mixed source of depleted MORB-like asthenospheric mantle with minor old crustal material; the diorites (301 Ma) from the mixed depleted lithospheric mantle and crustal components; the granodiorites (303 Ma) from the mixed mantle- and crust-derived magmas; and the monzogranites (317 Ma) from melting of the newly underplated basaltic lower crust. Combined with previous data, we have grouped all the intrusive rocks along the Kalamaili suture zone into three phases: 350–340 Ma, 330–320 Ma, and 320–300 Ma. The first phase consists of tholeiitic and high-K calc-alkaline granites, the second phase is composed of high-K calc-alkaline I-type granites with strong deformation, and the third phase comprises voluminous and various rock types (mainly mafic and felsic, including many A-type granites), revealing a magmatic flare-up. The magmatic associations and evolution from the first to the third phase, together with regional geology, suggest a tectonic transition from subduction/accretion (350–340 Ma) through syn-collision (330–320 Ma) to post-collision (or post-accretionary, 320–300 Ma), respectively.
