18. Two Carboxyl-Decorated Anionic Metal–Organic Frameworks as Solid-State Electrolytes Exhibiting High Li+and Zn2+Conductivity

Abstract

A highly electronegative carboxyl-decorated anionic metal–organic framework (MOF), (Me2NH2)2[In2(THBA)2](CH3CN)9(H2O)21(InOF; H4THBA = [1,1′:4′,1″-terphenyl]-2′,3,3″,5,5′,5″-hexacarboxylic acid), with high-density electronegative functional sites was designed and constructed. One unit cell of InOFpossesses 12 negative sites that originate from the negatively charged secondary building unit [In(COO)4]−and exposed carboxyl groups on the ligand. The abundant electronegative sites can facilitate the hopping of ions in channels and thus result in highly efficient ion conductivities for various metal ions. Our results show that Li+-loaded materials have a remarkably high ion conductivity of 1.49 × 10–3S/cm, an ion transference number of 0.78, and a relatively low activation energy of 0.19 eV. The Na+, K+, and Zn2+ion conductivities of InOFare 7.97 × 10–4, 7.69 × 10–4, and 1.22 × 10–3S/cm at 25 °C, respectively.

25. Ba3Ti0.4W1.6O8.6: An Oxygen- and B-Site-Deficient 9R Hexagonal Perovskite Exhibiting Triple Conduction

Abstract

The hexagonal perovskite derivatives Ba3M′M″O8.5featuring a hybrid structure composed of 9R hexagonal perovskite and palmierite structure motifs exhibit significant oxide ionic conductivity due to the highly disordered oxide-ion and M-cation sublattices. Herein, we report the structure and electrical properties of the perovskite Ba3Ti0.4W1.6O8.6. Three-dimensional (3D) electron diffraction (ED), neutron powder diffraction (NPD), and neutron pair distribution functions (nPDF) revealed a 9R hexagonal perovskite structure for Ba3Ti0.4W1.6O8.6with fully occupied central M2 sites, partially occupied outer M1 sites, and oxygen-deficient cubic c-BaO2.6sublayers. These cation and oxygen arrangements differ significantly from those in Ba3M′M″O8.5and enable Ba3Ti0.4W1.6O8.6to capture atmospheric water and O2, resulting in triple conduction (oxide ion, proton, and hole) under wet air conditions. Proton and oxide ion conductions predominate at temperatures <400 and >650 °C in wet Ar and dry air, respectively. Bond-valence site energy calculations, together with structure analysis, deciphered that the two-dimensional oxide-ion diffusion pathways along the c-BaO2.6layers are disrupted by the M1 vacancies, thereby resulting in relatively low oxide ionic conductivity. Our findings open up a new strategy of utilizing the cation’s propensity of coordination geometry to design new oxygen- and B-site-deficient perovskites and thus achieve desired conductivity.

26. Structure–Photoluminescence Relationship in Ce3+-Doped K5Y(P2O7)2and Its Sensitization to Dy3+with Enhanced White Light Emission

Abstract

From a fundamental point of view, the structure–photoluminescence relationship is vitally important for developing efficient phosphors and rationally improving their performances. In this work, Rietveld refinements on high-resolution powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data were conducted to verify the Ce3+distribution in K5Y(P2O7)2(KYPO). Ce3+ions are located at both M1 and M2 sites, with occupation factors of 0.31(2) and 0.19(2), respectively. Importantly, the crystal field strength (CFS) is stronger at the former site due to the larger bond valence sum. Correspondingly, the Ce3+emission can be deconvoluted into four Gaussian-type bands centered at ∼353, ∼383, ∼343, and ∼369 nm, where the former two belong to Ce3+at the M1 site and the latter two are assigned to Ce3+at the M2 site. Ce3+in KYPO is a highly efficient activator, with optimal internal and external quantum efficiencies of 98.9 and 74.6%, respectively, and was thus utilized to sensitize the Dy3+emission. Indeed, energy transfer from Ce3+to Dy3+was confirmed by fluorescent decay curves for Ce3+/Dy3+codoped KYPO, and the mechanism was supposed to be dominated by dipole–dipole interactions. Indeed, it can be pumped by a 310 nm LED chip and emits a bright white light. Ce3+photoluminescence exhibits high resistance to thermal quenching, and it can be further enhanced by codoping Dy3+, i.e. the emission intensity remains 96.3% at 423 K.

34. Substitution-Induced Structure Evolution and Zn2+/Ga3+Ordering in “114” Oxides MAZn2Ga2O7(M= Ca2+, Sr2+; A= Sr2+, Ba2+)

Abstract

The “114” oxides LnBa(Co/Fe)4O7+δrepresent a new family of materials that exhibits intriguing physical properties, including geometrically frustrated magnetism, oxygen storage, and magnetoelectric couplings. Various chemical substitutions have been conducted to modify their crystal and magnetic structures as well as physical properties. However, the principles beneath the substitution-induced structural evolution and charge/cationic ordering have not yet been understood. Thus, in this contribution, two complete solid solutions of MAZn2Ga2O7(M= Ca2+, Sr2+; A= Sr2+, Ba2+) were designed, synthesized, and characterized by Rietveld refinements based on high-resolution X-ray diffraction (XRD) and neutron diffraction (ND) data. The structure symmetry of MAZn2Ga2O7is determined by the cationic size mismatch between Mand Acations that can be defined by the tolerance factor t, i.e., symmetry transitions from P63mc(t> 0.87) to P31c(0.87 > t> 0.75) and to Pna21(t< 0.75) were observed for MAZn2Ga2O7, associated with the rotation of T1O4tetrahedra in the triangular layers. The Zn2+/Ga3+ordering at T sites is also a consequence of the increase or decrease of the average sizes of Mand Acations. A small concentration of interstitial oxygen ions can be obtained in Sr2Zn2–xGa2+xO7+x/2(x= 0.1, 0.2); however, no oxygen ionic conduction was observed at high temperatures, indicating the migration ability of the interstitial oxygen was very limited.

43. Chemical Substitution-Induced and Competitive Formation of 6H and 3C Perovskite Structures in Ba3–xSrxZnSb2O9: The Coexistence of Two Perovskites in 0.3 ≤ x≤ 1.0

Abstract

6H and 3C perovskites are important prototype structures in materials science. We systemically studied the structural evolution induced by the Sr2+-to-Ba2+substitution to the parent 6H perovskite Ba3ZnSb2O9. The 6H perovskite is only stable in the narrow range of x≤ 0.2, which attributes to the impressibility of [Sb2O9]. The preference of 90° Sb–O–Sb connection and the strong Sb5+-Sb5+electrostatic repulsion in [Sb2O9] are competitive factors to stabilize or destabilize the 6H structure when chemical pressure was introduced by Sr2+incorporation. Therefore, in the following, a wide two-phase region containing 1:2 ordered 6H–Ba2.8Sr0.2ZnSb2O9and rock-salt ordered 3C–Ba2SrZnSb2O9was observed (0.3 ≤ x≤ 1.0). In the final, the successive symmetry descending was established from cubic (Fm3̅m, 1.3 ≤ x≤ 1.8) to tetragonal (I4/m, 2.0 ≤ x≤ 2.4), and finally to monoclinic (I2/m, 2.6 ≤ x≤ 3.0). Here we proved that the electronic configurations of B-site cations, with either empty, partially, or fully filled d-shell, would also affect the structure stabilization, through the orientation preference of the B–O covalent bonding. Our investigation gives a deeper understanding of the factors to the competitive formation of perovskite structures, facilitating the fine manipulation on their physical properties.
