Complexes derived from 2,5 dimethylhexane-2,5-diol have been prepared and characterized by H NMR, melting point, microanalysis and crystallography. The reactions of 2,5-hexane-2,5-diol with M2(OBut)6 and M2(NMe2)6(M=Mo,W) to ascertain ligand substitution and inter- and intramolecular rearrangements were described. Ia(M=Mo) and Ib(M=W) formation provide rare examples of inorganic propellanes. The distortion of the central W2O6 core is minimal, compare with that seen in other W2 structures.
