The complexes (Au(acac-kappaC2)(PR3)) (acac = acetylacetonate, R = Ph, C6H4OMe-4) react with (NH4)ClO4 to produce amminegold(I), (Au(NH3)(PR3))ClO4, amidogold(I), ((AuPR3)2(mu2-NH2))ClO4, or nitridogold(I), ((AuPR3)4(mu4-N))ClO4 complexes depending on the reaction conditions. Similarly, (Au(acac-kappaC2)(PPh3)) reacts with (NHeR')OTf (OTf = CF3SO3) (1:1) or with (H3N(CH2)2NH2)OTf (1:1) to produce (amine)gold(I) complexes.

Complex compounds with N-bonded beta-iminophosphorus ylides were produced by the reaction of carbonyl stabilized phosphorus ylides and Ph3P=CHC(O)R (R= Me, OEt) with trans-[PtCl2(NCR)2] (R = C6F5, Me). The nucleophilic attack of the ylide to the two coordinated nitrile ligands of the complex during the reaction of [PtCl2(NCR)2] with Ph3P=CHC(O)R' resulted in the formation of ylideimine and iminophosphorane ligands. Furthermore, the type of ligand formed depends on the nature of the R and R' units.

The synthesis, reactivity and X-ray crystallographic characterization of mono, di and tetranuclear metallated palladium(II) compound is conducted with an aim of evaluating the influence of the entering ligand on the nature of the reaction products. The results confirm the ability of the ligand to expand a bridging or chelating coordination mode, depending on the auxiliary ligands present in the complex.

Bi 2 Te 3 is a well-studied material because of its thermoelectric properties and, recently, has also been studied as a topological insulator. However, it is only one of several compounds in the Bi-Te system. This work presents a study of the physical vapor transport growth of Bi-Te material focused on determining the growth conditions required to selectively obtain a desired phase of the Bi-Te system, i.e., Bi 2 Te 3 , BiTe, and Bi 4 Te 3 . Epitaxial films of these compounds were prepared on sapphire and silicon substrates. The results were verified by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry.

The complexes [Au(acac-kappaC(2))(PR(3))] (acac = acetylacetonate, R = Ph, C(6)H(4)OMe-4) react with (NH(4))ClO(4) to give amminegold(I), [Au(NH(3))(PR(3))]ClO(4), amidogold(I), [(AuPR(3))(2)(&mgr;(2)-NH(2))]ClO(4), or nitridogold(I), [(AuPR(3))(4)(&mgr;(4)-N)]ClO(4), complexes, depending on the reaction conditions. Similarly, [Au(acac-kappaC(2))(PPh(3))] reacts with (NH(3)R')OTf (OTf = CF(3)SO(3)) (1:1) or with [H(3)N(CH(2))(2)NH(2)]OTf (1:1) to give (amine)gold(I) complexes [Au(NH(2)R')(PPh(3))]OTf (R' = Me, C(6)H(4)NO(2)-4) or [(AuPPh(3))(2){&mgr;(2)-H(2)N(CH(2))(2)NH(2)}](OTf)(2), respectively. The ammonium salts (NH(2)R'(2))OTf (R' = Et, Ph) react with [Au(acac-kappaC(2))(PR(3))] (R = Ph, C(6)H(4)OMe-4) (1:2) to give, after hydrolysis, the oxonium salts [(AuPR(3))(3)(&mgr;(3)-O)]OTf (R = Ph, C(6)H(4)OMe-4). When NH(3) is bubbled through a solution of [AuCl(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), the complex [Au(NH(3))(2)]Cl precipitates. Addition of [Au(NH(3))(2)]Cl to a solution of AgClO(4) or TlOTf leads to the isolation of [Au(NH(3))(2)]ClO(4) or [Au(NH(3))(2)]OTf, respectively. The crystal structure of [(AuPR(3))(3)(&mgr;(3)-O)]OTf.Me(2)CO (R = C(6)H(4)OMe-4) has been determined: triclinic, space group P&onemacr;, a = 14.884(3) Å, b = 15.828(3) Å, c = 16.061(3) Å, alpha = 83.39(3) degrees, beta = 86.28(3) degrees, gamma = 65.54(3) degrees, R1 (wR2) = 0.0370 (0.0788). The [(AuPR(3))(3)(&mgr;(3)-O)](+) cation shows an essentially trigonal pyramidal array of three gold atoms and one oxygen atom with O-Au-P bond angles of ca. 175 degrees and Au.Au contacts in the range 2.9585(7)-3.0505(14) Å. These cations are linked into centrosymmetric dimers through two short Au.Au [2.9585(7), 3.0919(9) Å] contacts. The gold atoms of the dimer form a six-membered ring with a chair conformation.
