This paper describes the development and implementation of a visual model that allows organization of the morphological referents, starting from the conceptual proposal, for a new product design. The study of the context and its referent objects are recognized and taken into consideration within the initial stage of the design process. Much of the information gathered in this stage is often relegated and not actively considered in the conceptual development of a product. On the other hand, the freedom and lack of systematization that exists to address the formal development, starting from the conceptual proposal stage, triggers an uncertain and unclear development scene. This visual model seeks to associate morphological referents in their diverse levels with the concepts and attributes that define the conceptual proposal stage and present them in an integral diagram that furthers and expands the exploration of formal development. A 4th year design workshop in the industrial design major was implemented at the Universidad del Bio-Bio, wherein the utilization of the model within the proposal phase and its comparative impact with other traditional thematic workshops was carried out and evaluated. The application allowed for the expansion and diversification of creative development design solutions, oriented towards the innovation, in addition to serving as a map that could register the decision making in the design process, within the design team standpoint or from the point of view of the client. The following paper presents a description and application of this model in the teaching of design and discusses its implications on an educational and professional level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DATA warehousing , *FUZZY logic , *ACADEMIC achievement , *DECISION making , *DATABASE management , *DATA analysis , *GRADING of students - Abstract
A Data Warehouse (DW) is a data repository containing data from different sources. It is used to support decision-making through data analysis as it allows quantitative indicators such as amounts. However, data analysis lack of data of diffuse nature. For instance, in an academic context, the answer to the query "What students scored with good final grade" cannot be obtained from a traditional DW because they do not handle qualitative information. Due to the limitations of traditional DW the use of fuzzy logic may extend its capabilities through a fuzzy DW (FDW). This paper presents an implementation of FDW aimed at allowing qualitative analysis of scholar data supporting decision making process. The FDW implemented operate fuzzy measures, fuzzy facts, fuzzy relations and fuzzy levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DECISION making , *KNOWLEDGE management , *BUSINESS enterprises , *INFORMATION resources management , *TOURISM - Abstract
The links between knowledge, information and decision making in tourism industry have been addressed mainly at the level of tourist destinations, however there have been described deficiencies in the study of these relationships at the level of business organizations that interact in those destinations. The fact is shown in the weak production of academic articles that help to explain the decision-making and knowledge management in these entities, where although its importance is recognized there are factors that affect the development and implementation of both processes such as the lack of systemic approaches, models and methodologies. In this paper a theoretical analysis of the research topics is done, showing its evolution and current trends, which supported the development of a conceptual framework, and dimensions from which a procedure is proposed to study the alignment of decision making with knowledge management in business organizations related to tourism. The procedure is applied in entities placed on Holguin Tourist Destination located to the east of Cuba. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a simultaneous use of simulation and optimization techniques for the logistic operation planning is presented, specifically aimed to support the decision making processes related with fleet size determination in the supply--distribution process. The study is developed for a Cuban company dedicated to the transportation of goods and warehousing services. The implementation of the proposed tools enabled suggesting the optimal number of trucks to be used, considering minimization of the idle time of trucks and maximization of the customer service level. Experimental results show a significant improvement regarding the lead time reduction and the increment of order fulfillment for the customers of the company. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LEAN management , *PETRI nets , *DECISION making , *MANUFACTURING processes , *DISCRETE systems , *INDUSTRIAL efficiency - Abstract
In a highly dynamic world, due to technological, economic, political and social changes in the environment, it has been recognized that the production systems play a critical role in the competitiveness of an organization. In this research the authors propose the integration of lean thinking in managing a production system using the technique of discrete event simulation using Petri nets as the support methodology in the process of decision making. Decision making in a lean production system is a complex process because it has static (structural) and dynamic (operational) characteristics and a set of waste presented in it. This paper presents the design of a set of structures that represent different stages in a production process of tires and that is it possible to prove that the design of a model, using the methodology of Petri nets, helps to have an effective and efficient decision making for waste disposal, this thanks to the properties of such nets to model discrete events and analyse the dynamic behaviour of the system. Finally the simulation allows analysing a set of parameters through a systemic indicator OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) and demonstrate that the implementation of methods, techniques and tools proposed in the lean production theory generate synergy in the system. In recent years, the software outsourcing (SO) strategy for organizations has become a useful and important alternative, as well as SO projects. SO projects have many complexities due to several factors affecting management. These complexities and importance of SO require that successfull projects meet a parameter set: budget, cost, schedule, among others. This requirement can be met through the implementation of methods and techniques of risk management (RM). RM is a process to prevent problems, establish actions to follow, and monitor the project to ensure success. Likewise, it is considered a key process in making decisions about risks. In this paper, we present a proposal for the risks identification related to software outsourcing process. Risk identification is the basic activity on which rests the success of RM process. Our proposal is a risk taxonomy of SO, consisting in a hierarchical classification structure based on the RM of SO projects. The taxonomy was validated in a study case: Project of pre-developed software acquisition. The results have been useful for the organization and for the refinement of the proposal, thanks to lessons learned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
