The potential index is defined to discuss the cooperative development of railway station and local area (surrounding zone) in Kansai urban region. The database relating with railway station and area is established based on the national census, PT survey and so forth. The index indicating the potential capability of development is discussed and the calculation process for the potential of railway station is proposed. Collaborating with railway companies, the potential estimation system for potential of railway station with pair comparison such as AHP is developed. The collaborative development of the station and area can discussed for some railway stations. Finally, the different types of potential capability of development can be summarized in Kansai region.

In recent years, social concern has gathered for preservation and practical use of the modernization inheritance as a cultural property. It is thought that the philosophy and technique for preservation of a modernization inheritance differ for every area. Furthermore, many of engineering-works structures are the institution group stuck to the area as a public facility. As for them, maintenance and management of an institution, and preservation and practical use have an inseparable relation. The purpose of this research is considering preserving-as local property-modernization inheritance philosophy, and its technique from a civil engineering-standpoint. In order to consider preservation of a modernization inheritance from the viewpointof local management, It puts in a database by grasping the local feature of the engineering-works structure first Next, the questionnaire survey about the preservation was conducted to the entrepreneur.

This study considered transition of the community, which is located along waterside and also aimed to design an attractive waterside space. Therefore at first, data have been collected on consciousness of people who are along and same have been analyzed. In addition, the data on a methodology has been developed while the data was collecting through listening comprehension along waterside more. Influence of social infrastructure maintenance was big, and, as result of this study, the transition community confirmed that there was a difference in accessing waterside and aware of consciousness for river improvement in that area. This study was able to consider the community along waterfront, which has flood control and activity of both waterside use and developed in a thing which has flexible original system.

This study focused on the process of urban development based on the railway systems since modernization in Gifu City. At first, the development of railway systems classified based on historical documents. Next, the influence of railway systems had given to the process of urban development was analyzed after the transition of the city planning. Result, Gifu Station other cities were connected with Gifu City promoted south of the city, and electric tramway network reorganized the urban structure. Recently, although the relation between the railway systems and the city has weakened, process of urban development had been based on railway systems.

The purpose of this study is to construct Expert System for urban landscape evaluation in order to lead urban landscape to moderate level.In the prototype system in Ogaki-City, three aspects:“Stnicture design”, “Visual compatibility”and “Environmental compatibility”were introduced.In this study, the evaluation logic was examine& Especially, the logic for Visual compatibility was established rather complicated logic by considering various harmonies.As the result, 168 inference noles: evaluation knowledge, were installed in the system. In addition, a questionnaire survey was instituted for checking the estimation. Moreover, advices for improvement could be drawn by tracing and the inference process.

This study clarified the role of the waterfront in Fushimi under the Modernization. In Edo period, a lot of elements that characterized the city were gathered in the waterfront as a traffic terminal based on navigation systems, and that closely tied with residents. Waterfront and navigation systems still existed, but the role of them had to be changed because of railway systems and rapid industrialization. As a result, most characteristic facilities and amenity of the city were taken away from the waterfront However they were expected to sustain the management of the city in flood control and navigation systems.

In this paper, we deal with the water-front of Okazaki Area in Kyoto Higashiyama as the space for amenity based on the Lake Biwa Canal under the modernization. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of the Lake Biwa Canal in planning of water-front, and show the knowledge and process of creating the urban amenity by using historical materials. As a result, this infrastructure have sustained the urbanization of Okazaki Area directly and indirectly, and contributed creation of water-front amenity for citizen.

Landscape formations of Maruyama temples firstly depended on inclinations of the lands. The most steep one, Choraku-ji, was built up with several flat area connected each other, between which they created beautiful gardens. In Anyou-ji, also steep one, there were six separated sites which had ups and downs abundantly, in each site various relations between gardens and buildings made people turn their eyes toward various directions. Finally, Sourin-ji had gentle slope, so they made artificial heaps in their gardens to make their landscapes complex, or they use Syakkei. Afterward, these temples were used as places of cultural communication.

We think it is useful for a project of civil engineering in the future to learn a technology of civil engineering of the past and study a formation of urban landscape. We classify the transition of urban development along the Takase Canal that was based on the function of a water transport systems. And we give consideration to mutual effects between the infrastructure and living environment along this canal. Takase Canal was constructed by making the best use of the latest technology in Edo period. This infrastructure played an active part in those days and supply many amenity to cities along this canal in Kyoto.

“Noryo-yuka”, which is temporary water terrace looking on the river, has been succeeded in the Kamo River, Kyoto. The traditional water terrace has aroused public behavior to the river, and created the proper landscape. This paper aims to make clear the knowledge maintaining amenity in the river-front based on the relations between transformations of water terrace and river improvement works. As a result, people have especially designed the boundary space between the city and the river, and enjoyed staying there by making buffer equipments and using temporary devices.

Concrete products have been the mainstream of River-bank Protection Works since beginning of the 20C. Because of their high flexibility, concrete products have changed into all kinds of shape reflecting the needs of the times. As the basic research on the river-landscape, we surveyed the design of concrete products historically. In this research, it is identified that concrete products could be classified into 3 genealogyfollowing different traditional methods of construction and their developement fall into 4 periods historically.
