HCMV has been detected in various types of tumors. Besides its well-describedoncomodulation, recently an oncogenic properties of HMCV per se as well asits direct transforming role in infected cells have been described.HCMV in serous ovarian adenocarcinoma and its relation to BRCA1and BRCA2 was scarcely studied. The study was designed to examine cellular dysregulation mediated by the concordant protein expressions of BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor genes with HCMV in tissues from ovarian cancers. Eighty ovarian tissues were examined for HCMV-DNA and BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes expression. Those samples belonged to (40) patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer and (40) from apparently normal ovarian tissues. The detection of HCMV-DNA was done by chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) whereas the translated proteins of the expressed BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Positive signals of HCMV-DNA -CISH reactions in malignant serous epithelial ovarian tumors, was detected in 45% (18 out of 40)tissues and followed by the apparently healthy ovarian control tissues (12.5%,5 out of 40 tissues). The difference of the HCMV in ovarian cancers and control was highly significant. The translated proteins of the expressed BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes was detected by IHC in 60% (24 out of 40 tissues) of malignant serous epithelial ovarian tumors while no signal was reported in the control tissues. The difference between the percentages of BRCA1 as well as BRCA2proteins detection in ovarian cancer & control group was statistically significant (<0.05). The significant detection of either HCMV o rBRCA1 & BRCA2 genes expression in the studied ovarian cancer tissues could support a role for that virus along with these genes in ovarian carcinogenesis. Background: Diarrhea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children aged less than five years. Escherichia coli O157: H7 is a highly pathogenic subgroup of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) that causes severe human bloody diarrhea and hemolytic uremic syndrome. Objectives: To determine the rates of detection of E. coli O157: H7 infections in children less than five years of age and to assess the clinical and laboratory criteria of E. coli O157: H7 associated diarrhea. Patients and Method: Across sectional prospective, hospital-based study was carried out on children with acute diarrhea visiting the outpatientclinics at Children Welfare Teaching Hospital, AL-Kadhymia Pediatric Hospital and AL-Elweya Pediatric Hospital in Baghdad during the period from Sep. to Dec. 2015. E.coli O157: H7 antigen in fecal samples taken from children with acute diarrhea were detected by immunochromatographic assay (ICA). Results: Escherichia coli O157: H7 antigen was detected in 43/94(45.7%) of fecal samples for children with diarrhea. 55.8% of children with positive stool samples were females and 44.2% were males with a female to male ratio of 1.3:1. Children with acute diarrhea due to E. coli O157: H7 were younger (mean age 17.19 ± 9.572 months) than those without E. coli O157: H7 infection (mean age 30.63 ±19.815 months) and the difference is highly significant. Fever and vomiting were symptoms shared by all the studied children regardless of their E.coli O157: H7 infections. Significant associations between bloody diarrhea, pus and red blood cells in stools and E. coli O157: H7 infections were noted. Conclusions: E. coli O157: H7 infectionwas a common cause of gastroenteritisin children less than five years in Baghdad.Mainly among infants and young children who presented with acute bloody diarrhea, microscopic pus and red blood cells in their stools. Epstein Barr viruses are well known to induce tumorigenesis in proliferative epithelial tissues. Many studies have implicated EBV in the progression of benign and malignant head and neck tumors by affecting cell cycle proteins expression. This study designed to determine the rates of existential concomitance of EBV in relation to P27 gene expression in tissues from nasopharyngeal and sinonasal lesions. The study included a total number of (183) formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks including 35 inflammatory nasal polyps (INP), 35 sinonasal papillomas (SNP), 65 nasopharyngeal carcinomas (NPC), 18 sinonasal carcinomas (SNC) as well as 30 nasal healthy tissues as control group. After histopathological confirmatory re-examination, a Chromogenic In Situ Hybridization technique (CISH) for EBV-EBERs localization and immunohistochemistry technique (IHC) for p27 expression were performed. The positivity percentages of EBV-EBERs detection in NPC and SNC carcinoma tissues were (86.2% and 88.9%, respectively) while it was (57.1%) in SNP and INP. These results were with highly significant differences (P<0.01). The positively percentages of p27-IHC were (58.5% in NPC,66.7% in SNC, 51.4% in SNP and 60% in INP) tissues in comparison to control healthy tissues in which only (3.3%) noticed as positive.
