The literature has been briefly reviewed. The cases of laryngeal paralysis due to thyroidectomy and diseases of the thyroid gland constitute of 0.02% of the total number of patients attending E. N. T., Out-Patient Department and 10.6% of the total number of laryngeal paralysis from other disease. The incidence of paralysis is more in pre operative cases than the thyroidectomy cases. The ratio between male and female is 7:1. The age period varies from 18 years to 60 years. The incidence of unilateral paralysis (93.7%) is much higher than the bilateral paralysis. Right complete recurrent paralysis (68.75%) is the commonest type of paralysis. Malignant tumours of the thyroid gland is found to be the commonest tumour causing the laryngeal paralysis. Eight cases of Nasopharyngeal carcinoma seen in a short period have been analysed. The silent nature of the primary tumour and difficulties in obtaining positive diagnosis have been emphasized. It is felt that due to inter-mixture from mongoloid races carcinoma of the nasopharynx in this part of India is higher than what is believed. One could conclude from the above observations that in diagnosis of oral cancer among tobacco addicts in India exfoliative cytology is more reliable in smokers, less in those who use a quid and least in those who chewed tobacco with betel leaves. A negative cytologic report in presence of a lesion clinically diagnosed as malignant recourse must always be taken to biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. The advantage of a positive cytologic diagnosis to confirm a clinical suspecion lies in the fact that patients often agree to allow collect of swabs for the purpose more willingly. This is significant when dealing with a rural and uneducated population who are often relcutant to submit for biopsy and histological diagnosis; this was particularly true if the lesion was small and symptomless. Rhinoscleroma or scleroma has a world wide distribution. The disease usually affects the nasal mucosa, hence the name rhinoscleroma. Rarely, it may start in other parts of the body without the involvement of the nasal mucosa. Primary involment of the bronchi is very rare.
