Total 50 normal cyclic cows were selected and equally divided into 5 different groups. Group I and II cows were treated with 2 ml injection of normal saline 11 days apart. Cows from group III, IV and V were treated with PGF2α injection 11 days apart. Cows from group IV and V were treated with hCG 1500 IU i/m at the time of AI and after 11 days of AI, respectively. Cows of group II, III, IV, V received pre-synchronization medicinal treatment (PSMT) comprising mineral mixture @ 50 g daily for 15 days orally, Ivermactin) @ 1 ml per 50 kg body weight s/c, Vitamin AD3E 5 ml i/ m and sodium acid phosphate 10 ml i/m 15 days prior to estrus synchronization treatment. Out of 30 cows in group III, IV and V, 25 (83.33 %) cows responded to first dose and all 30 (100 %) responded to 2nd dose of PGF2α. The average mean time required for onset of estrus (for pooled 30 PG treated cows) after 1st and 2nd PGF2α injection was 81.20 ± 4.66 and 74.40 ± 1.01 hrs, respectively, and the average mean length of estrus was 15.68 ± 0.77 and 17.33 ± 0.47 hrs, respectively. A study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of intravaginal progestogen sponges for oestrus synchronization in goats under field condition. Intravaginal progestogen sponges were inserted in 24 randomly selected non pregnant goats which were divided equally into two groups (Group- I and Group -II). In both the groups injection CIRG 1 ml was administered intramuscularly on day of sponge insertion. Injection equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) 400 IU was administered intramuscularly on day nine (D=9) to the goats in Group-II only. While injection Cloprostenol sodium 263 μg/ml was administered intramuscularly and sponges were removed from all the experimental goats on day ten (D=10). The goats were observed for oestrus exhibition from 11th to 14th day and mated with fertile bucks. All the 24 sponges inserted were retained in the vaginal passage till removed. The time interval for onset of oestrus was significantly (P<0.05) shorter in Group-II (17.41 ± 1.31 vs 20.91 ± 0.27 hrs). Pregnancy rate in oestrus synchronized goats was 33.33 and 25.00 per cent, in Group- I and II respectively which did not differ significantly (P<0.05). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A total 30 cyclic buffaloes were selected from village Lakhani District Bhandara (MS) and divided into three equal groups. The selected buffaloes were treated with 2 ml normal saline i/m for 1st group, PGF2α (Cloprostinol 500 mcg) 11 days apart randomly and AI was done at observed oestrus for 2nd group and GPG - Ovsynch protocol (GnRH + PG + GnRH on day 0, 7 & 9, respectively) for 3rd group with fixed time AI 18-24 hrs later. The overall oestrus response was 20, 50 and 80 % in Group I, II and III, respectively. The average duration for onset of oestrus was 177.5 ± 24.50 hrs, 60.80 ± 2.86 hrs and 70.62 ± 14.82 hrs in Group I, II and III, respectively. The average length of oestrus was 16 ± 2.00 hrs, 14.2 ± 0.66 hrs and 14.87 ± 0.87 hrs in Group I, II and III, respectively. The corresponding average score for intensity of oestrus was 43 ± 1.00, 35.00 ± 2.16 and 39.37 ± 2.14 in three groups. The conception rate obtained was 10, 30 and 40 % in Group I, Group II and Group III, respectively. The ovsynch protocol was better for improving conception rate in field buffaloes. The article describes the case of conjoined twin fetus in a Surti buffalo. It is noted that conjoined twins are the most common cause of dystocia in cattle and buffalo. It develop when incomplete separation occurs after the development of the embryonic plate at eight days. The present study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of Ovsynch protocol of estrous synchronization for augmentation of fertility in buffaloes under field condition. The selected buffaloes received pre synchronization treatment (injection Hitek @ 1 ml per 50 kg body wt. s/c., injection Urimin 10 ml i/m, injection Intavita 5 ml i/m and chelated mineral mixture Agrimin forte @ 50gm orally daily) one week earlier and synchronized with Ovsynch protocol with injection Receptal (GnRH) 2.5 ml intramuscularly on day 0 and 9 while injection Cyclix (PGF2α) 2 ml intramuscularly on day 7. All the twelve (100%) buffaloes exhibited estrous and timely inseminated 16-20 hrs after second GnRH injection. The first service conception rate was 41.66 per cent showing augmentation of postpartum fertility using Ovsynch synchronization protocol in buffaloes under filed conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
