This paper presents Peru’s First Review Under the Stand-By Arrangement for SDR 172.37 million approved on January 26, 2007. Implementing sound macroeconomic policies and reforms would reduce vulnerabilities, entrench sustainable growth, and reduce poverty, setting the stage for a strong exit from IMF-supported programs and for achieving investment grade. The economic outlook remains favorable, with risks largely dependent on external conditions, most notably related to commodity prices and global financial conditions.

Then, it assesses the discretionary scope to adjust spending and proposes initial steps to enhance budget flexibility so that fiscal adjustment can be targeted on relatively inefficient spending. This study also discusses the long-term fiscal sustainability position of Slovenia using a generational accounting framework. A simulation of retirement incentives suggests that the pension system will encourage individuals to retire earlier than the statutory full pensionable age. These incentives are stronger for low-income earners.

To make decentralization work better, more revenue and expenditure responsibilities could be devolved to the islands. This Selected Issues paper and Statistical Appendix investigates the sources of growth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and evaluates the relative importance of productivity growth and factor accumulation.
