Thc analytic approach for the evaluation of the worst-case performanecof CSMA-based sensor network is derived in the paper. The developed procedure is exemplified by the analysis of the predictive p -CSMA protocol implemented in LonWorks control networking technology. Thanalytic approach is based on the calculation of the stationary distribution of a Markov chain. Next, the probabilities of the succsseful/unsucccessful transmission, and thc worst-case throughput and collision rate are derived.The validation of the developed analytic procedure is made by simulation. Sample results consistent with the analytic calculations are reported.

The paper presents a case study based on our practical model of energy saving in a small building equipped by an industrial distributed control system. First, we overview our model built over LonWorks networking platform and then we discuss increasing the reliability of control programs by formal methods. Their possible application is demonstrated by the example of verifying the control program for a solar space heating. We show that some safety verifications are performable without constructing a whole hybrid model. Finally, we discuss the results achieved up to date. The principles presented in this case study are applicable on a general level for other similar systems.

This paper presents a solution for the hardware implementation of EIA-709.1 Control Networking Protocol. It is the basic protocol of LonWorks systems that is widely used for the building system and the sensor system. The EIA 709.1 protocol has been implemented at the hardware level from physical layer to network layer to reduce the computing load on the CPU. VHSIC hardware description language (HDL) has been used for the EIA-709.1 protocol. Other layers have been implemented using C programs on Intel 8051 processor. The EIA-709.1 protocol has been implemented using field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology and the commercial feasibility of the proposed solution has been performed through the communication test using the Neuron Chip of EIA-709.1 protocol. The designed EIA709.1 core is usable as one of the intellectual properties (IPs) and it is applicable to design System-on-a-Chip (SoC) for various industrial controllers.

The contribution presents a development of Lonworks based distributed control system for building automation. The described system can control main technical facilities of common private buildings and its flexibility makes possible further expansion. The contribution also describes laboratory model that is used for testing prototypes of developed devices, for educational activities and for further research.

This contribution is dealing with the problems of distributed systems for the building control. The universal system for building automation being developed in Department of Measurement and Control, VSB-TU Ostrava is described here. The system makes use of the communication network Lonworks and serves for control and mutual interconnection of the building technical equipment. In the frrst part of the contribution the technologies used in the building control sphere are decribed. In the second part the system being developed and laboratory model, on which the system is applied, are described.

In order to realize the automation of management of Beijing District Heating System, a thorough study on Fieldbus and one of its form—LonWorks technology have been conducted. And according to the heating power network’s requirement of monitored control systems, a test model of distributed monitoring network has been designed. The system consists of seven intelligent nodes. Each node, adopting the Lon Works Neuron Chip as its model, is equipped with auxiliary circuit and application software. Especially, the FCU node, having used ETSK model and fuzzy control algorithm, is much more excellent in controlling accuracy than normal PID and fuzzy PID.

This paper presents the design and development of a distributed and integrated control network for irrigation and other agricultural applications employing the Lon Works technology standard. A single control network infrastructure integrates irrigation, pumping and optionally fertilizing, syringing and environmental control systems that interoperate and can be programmed, monitored and optionally controlled over the same Pc. Emphasis was given to the communication capabilities to external PSTN and TCP/lP networks; a LonWorks to PSTN gateway was developed.

The paper presents a home automation model developed using DCS technology. The model has nodes that include smoke detector, door-contact sensor, door release, temperature sensor, air-cooler, motion detector, alarm panel, curtain control motor, brightness sensor, lighting control and hand-held IR controls. This paper also presents the software aspect which uses the NEURON C and how the nodes communicate with one another using network variable propagation. The network protocol used is also briefly discussed.
