This paper investigates low-complexity joint interference avoidance and desired link improvement for single-channel allocation in multiuser multiantenna access points (APs) for open-access small cells. It is considered that an active user is equipped with an antenna array that can be used to suppress interference sources but not to provide spatial diversity. On the other hand, the operation of APs can be coordinated to meet design requirements, where each of which can unconditionally utilize assigned physical channels. Moreover, each AP is equipped with uncorrelated antennas that can be reused simultaneously to serve many active users. The analysis provides new approaches to exploit physical channels, transmit antennas, and APs to mitigate interference, while providing the best possible link gain to an active user through the most suitable interference-free channel. The event of concurrent service requests placed by active users on a specific interference-free channel is discussed for either interference avoidance through identifying unshared channels or desired link improvement via multiuser scheduling. The applicability of the approaches to balance downlink loads is explained, and practical scenarios due to imperfect identification of interference-free channels and/or the scheduled user are thoroughly investigated. The developed results are applicable for any statistical and geometric models of the allocated channel to an active user, as well as channel conditions of interference users. To efficiently trade off system sum rate and link fairness, power allocation in wireless spectrum-sharing networks often concentrates upon proportional fairness. The corresponding problem has been proved to be convex for a single tone but NP-hard for more than two tones. However, in the two-tone case, the complexity of the problem for achieving proportional fairness has not been addressed yet. In this paper, we prove that the issue of proportional-fairness optimization for the two-tone situation is NP-hard by reducing the problem of finding the maximum independent set in an undirected graph to it. Moreover, a computationally efficient algorithm is proposed to provide an efficient suboptimal solution. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our proposal. Mobile edge computing (MEC) has attracted great interests as a promising approach to augment computational capabilities of mobile devices. An important issue in the MEC paradigm is computation offloading. In this paper, we propose an integrated framework for computation offloading and interference management in wireless cellular networks with MEC. In this integrated framework, we formulate the computation offloading decision, physical resource block (PRB) allocation, and MEC computation resource allocation as optimization problems. The MEC server makes the offloading decision according to the local computation overhead estimated by all user equipments (UEs) and the offloading overhead estimated by the MEC server itself. Then, the MEC server performs the PRB allocation using the graph coloring method. The outcomes of the offloading decision and PRB allocation are then used to distribute the computation resource of the MEC server to the UEs. Recent advances in loop interference cancelation techniques enable full-duplex relaying (FDR) systems, which transmit and receive simultaneously in the same band with high spectrum efficiency. Meanwhile, wireless virtualization has attracted a lot of attention from both academia and industry because it can provide more flexibility, diversity, and other benefits in the process of wireless network design, construction, operation, and management. In this paper, we introduce the idea of wireless virtualization into FDR cellular networks. Then, the problem of energy-aware virtual resource management is formulated as a three-stage Stackelberg game. The subgame perfect equilibrium for each stage is analyzed. In addition, the interplays of the three-stage game are discussed, and an iterative algorithm is proposed to obtain the Stackelberg equilibrium solution. In this paper, we investigate multiuser scheduling with joint user pairing, resource allocation, and power control (PC) in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) uplink cellular networks. We first derive the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) in spatial multiuser single-carrier frequency-division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) systems with frequency-domain minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization. Based on this, we formulate an optimization problem as joint multiuser pairing, resource allocation, and PC to maximize the weighted throughput of the system. We then divide it into a two-step optimization problem, which is suboptimal but significantly reduces the complexity. The two-step problem first performs optimal frequency resource allocation and user pairing for a given transmit power value and then adjusts the transmit power to maximize the weighted throughput when frequency resources are allocated and users are paired. With the help of high-interference indicators exchanged among multiple base stations (BSs), we develop an iterative distributed and low-complexity algorithm to further simplify the two-step problem. In this paper, we propose a non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system using coexisting narrow and wide beams to increase total capacity. In our proposed system, a base station considers the state of user mobility and supports users with either a narrow or a wide beam according to the mobility state. The proposed NOMA system uses the beam gain between a narrow and a wide beam, as well as the power gain from the pathloss difference in NOMA scheme. The system is thus less influenced by user mobility at the point of NOMA pairing. In the proposed system, we consider two power allocation schemes, namely the max and fair power allocation methods, and propose a pairing algorithm to maximize the capacity by minimizing the interference between narrow and wide beam user. We investigate the power-allocation problem in a two-tier femtocell network including a macrocell and multiple femtocells. Due to shadowing and fading effects, at each cell (macrocell or femtocell), the power levels of desired signal and interference signals vary with time. Under this circumstance, one method to achieve transmission quality in the cells is to first get channel state information (CSI) of all desired links and interference links and then perform power allocation. This method has very large communication and computation overhead. In this paper, we focus on power allocation in which the transmit power levels of the users in the cells do not need to change when the wireless channels fluctuate. We formulate a power-allocation problem subject to bounded outage probability in any cell (macrocell or femtocell). The formulated problem has probabilistic constraints. It is hard to have closed-form expressions of the probabilistic constraints. To solve this, we propose novel transformations of the constraints, based on which we obtain constraints in the format of worst-case value-at-risk. Such constraints can be converted to convex constraints, and thus, the research problem is transformed to a convex problem. For the convex problem, we provide an iterative algorithm that converges quickly. We also investigate the case when the channel gain distributions are unknown. The widely studied network energy efficiency (EE)-optimal problems (NEPs) emphasize optimality of system EE without taking fairness into account. In this paper, we focus on the max–min EE-optimal problem (MEP) by means of power allocation in interference-limited wireless networks. The MEP offers fairness assurance for users in terms of EE by maximizing the EE of the worst-case user. We show that the MEP is NP-hard. Based on generalized fractional programming, we propose a general EE-based update algorithm (EEUA) to tackle the MEP. One key step in the EEUA involves a nonconvex optimization and NP-hard power allocation problem, and we solve it by devising an iterative power allocation algorithm using sequential convex programming. Simulation results exhibit fast convergence, low complexity, and insensitivity to initial values of the proposed algorithms and verify that the MEP guarantees EE fairness among users, as well as reveal the differences between the MEP and the NEP. Interference alignment (IA) is a promising technique for interference management in wireless networks. However, the sum rate may fall short of the theoretical maximum, particularly at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) levels since IA mainly concentrates on mitigating the interference, instead of improving the quality of desired signal. Moreover, most of the previous works focused on improving spectrum efficiency, but the energy efficiency (EE) aspect is largely ignored. In this paper, an adaptive energy-efficient IA algorithm is proposed through power allocation (PA) and transmission-mode adaptation for green IA-based wireless networks. The PA problem for IA is first analyzed; then, we propose a PA scheme that optimizes the EE of IA-based wireless networks. When the SNR is low, the transmitted power of some users may become zero. Thus, the users with low transmitted power are turned into the sleep mode in our scheme to save energy. The transmitted power and transmission mode of the remaining active users are adapted again to further improve the EE of the network. To guarantee the interests of all the users, fairness among users is also considered in the proposed scheme. Heterogeneous wireless networks are considered as promising technologies to improve energy efficiency. In heterogeneous networks, interference management is very important since the interference due to spectrum sharing can significantly degrade overall performance. In the existing work, various resource allocation methods are proposed to either improve energy efficiency or mitigate interference in orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA)-based multicell networks. To the best of our knowledge, no research on resource allocation has jointly considered improving energy efficiency and performing interference control, especially using interference power constraint strategies. Furthermore, most existing work assumes that all of the channel state information (CSI) is known completely, which might not be realistic in heterogeneous networks due to the limited capacity of the backhaul links and varied ownership of network devices. In this paper, we propose a game-theoretical scheme using energy-efficient resource allocation and interference pricing for an interference-limited environment in heterogeneous networks. We formulate the problems of resource allocation and interference management as a Stackelberg game with incomplete CSI. A backward induction method is used to analyze the proposed game. A closed-form expression of the Stackelberg equilibrium (SE) is obtained for the proposed game with various interference power constraints. In this paper, the problem of distributed mode selection, resource allocation, and interference management is studied for device-to-device (D2D) communications underlaying future cellular networks. In existing underlaid D2D communications, the base station (BS) typically assists D2D pairs in selecting a transmission mode to operate in (network-assisted), that is, either cellular, dedicated, or reuse mode. Network-assisted D2D communications assumes the BS has global knowledge of the network, which includes complete channel state information (CSI). However, acquiring global network information causes signaling overhead and network complexity to increase, due to the large number of users in the network. Therefore, we investigate user-assisted D2D communications as a viable solution for D2D communications, in which the BS has partial knowledge of the network (and partial CSI). To address this problem, a cross-layer coalitional (CLC) game is formulated, where D2D pairs and cellular users are clustered into coalitions based on resource allocation/sharing and mode selection, in a fully distributed and autonomous manner. Clustering D2D pairs allows resources to be shared fairly amongst users in a cluster, while also ensuring D2D pairs operate efficiently. To coordinate the interference between cellular and D2D pairs, an interference management subproblem is proposed that schedules D2D pairs reusing cellular user resources, as well as minimizing the transmission power of all users. To solve this game, a distributed algorithm is proposed, which converges to a Nash stable coalition partition that is socially efficient and has a nonempty core. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can effectively cluster D2D pairs into coalitions based on resource allocation and mode selection, which, in turn, reduces network sum power and increases network sum rate across all D2D pairs. Multiple linear constraint water filling problem (MLWFP) is solved innovatively in this paper, in which powers allotted to the $T$ resources of the transmitting user maximize the capacity of the transmitting user while controlling the interference to all the surrounded users of the wireless network. MLWFP is solved previously using iterative algorithms that take more number of iterations, thus, increasing the computational complexity. Unlike prior algorithms, the uniqueness of the proposed algorithm is in detecting the tight bounds for the number of nonzero powers $S$. Subsequently, $S$ is calculated from its bounds. This makes it possible for the proposed algorithm to compute $S$ nonzero powers alone (using the closed-form solution), whereas all the prior algorithms find powers iteratively for all $T$ ( $>$ $S$ ) resources. Thus, the worst case computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is reduced manyfold and is considerably lower than that of the prior algorithms by a factor of $O(T^2)$. In this paper, we investigate the resource allocation problem in two-tier heterogenous networks (HetNets) with massive MIMO, where two frequency bands, cellular frequency band and millimeter wave frequency band, are used for wireless backhaul links. To coordinate the interference among small cells (SCs), SCs are grouped into multiple SC clusters (SCCs), where SC users are jointly served by SC base stations (BSs) (SBSs) belonging to the same SCC. To eliminate the multi-user and inter-tier interference, we propose a block diagonalization based precoding scheme at macro-BS and each SCC, where the transmit precoding matrix for users is projected onto the null space of interference channels. Following this, we formulate a power allocation optimization problem to maximize the downlink sum rate of the system subject to per-SCC power and users’ quality of service requirements. Since the formulated problem is nonconvex, we transform it into a convex one by appropriate approximation, and a constrained concave convex procedure based iterative algorithm is proposed to obtain the solution. Furthermore, we prove that the obtained solution converges to the local optimum. Meanwhile, according to the structure of the original formulated problem, we divide it into multiple subproblems and propose an optimal iterative water-filling algorithm. Next, we extend the original problem with per-SBS power constraint, which results in that the precoding of each SCC has to be redesigned. On this basis, we propose an iterative water-filling algorithm to obtain the optimal power allocation and precoding. In this paper, we consider the problems of minimizing sum power and maximizing sum rate for multicell networks with load coupling, where coupling relation occurs among cells due to intercell interference. This coupling relation is characterized by the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) coupling model with cell load vector and cell power vector as the variables. Due to the nonlinear SINR coupling model, the optimization problems for multicell networks with load coupling is nonconvex. To solve these nonconvex problems, we first consider the optimization problems for single-cell networks. Through variable transformations, the optimization problems can be equivalently transformed into convex problems. By solving the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker, the optimal solutions to power minimization and rate maximization problems can be obtained in closed form. Based on the theoretical findings of optimization problems for single-cell networks, we develop a distributed time allocation and power control algorithm with low complexity for the sum power minimization in multicell networks. This algorithm is proved to be convergent and globally optimal by using the properties of standard interference function. For sum rate optimization in multicell networks, we also provide a distributed algorithm that yields suboptimal solution. Besides, the convergence for this distributed algorithm is proved. Numerical results illustrate the theoretical findings, showing the superiority of our solutions compared to the conventional solution of allocating uniform power for users in the same cell. The high-speed railway wireless communication network architecture is gradually transforming from a traditional GSM-Railway (GSM-R) cellular network to a 5G heterogeneous ultra-dense communication network. How to effectively deal with the interference while obtaining the capacity gain has become an inevitable problem. This article proposes a power allocation interference alignment algorithm based on game equilibrium with the goal of joint optimization about throughput and energy efficiency for imperfect channels in high-speed railway communication. Firstly, the imperfect Channel State Information including delay and fading is calculated. Then, in order to improve system throughput and energy efficiency, we establish a game model and prove the existence of Nash equilibrium in the model. At the same time, a power allocation iterative algorithm based on Recurrent Neural Network is proposed. Finally, combined with the interference alignment algorithm based on a maximal signal-to-noise ratio, the optimal power matrix is calculated by iteration to achieve interference management optimization. The simulation results prove that our algorithm has superior performance in improving the system throughput, energy efficiency and transmission reliability in high-speed railway wireless communication with imperfect channels. Cognitive radio and heterogeneous wireless networks are important candidate techniques for the fifth generation (5G) communication systems. On the other hand, propagation properties of radio channels in a physical layer are exploited to design efficient secure transmission schemes for 5G wireless networks. In this work, a security-aware joint power and subchannel allocation problem based on the inter-network cooperation is investigated at cognitive heterogeneous networks via imperfect spectral sensing. The security-aware joint power and subchannel allocation is subject to constraints in available subchannels, proportional fairness secrecy transmission rates among secondary mobile terminals (MTs), total interference power threshold, and total power for each secondary MT. In order to determine the impact of imperfect spectral sensing to resource allocation, we first represent the interference power at primary base station in terms of the misdetection probability and false alarm probability. Then, the security-aware power and subchannel allocation problem with inter-network cooperation is formulated as a biconvex optimization problem, and an optimal security-aware power and subchannel allocation algorithm is proposed utilizing the dual decomposition method. Compared to the heuristic power and subchannel allocation algorithms, numerical simulation results show that the proposed algorithms improve the total secrecy throughput and guarantee the proportional fairness among different secondary MTs. A cooperative wireless-powered communication network protocol is proposed, in which user far away from a hybrid access point (H-AP) is capable of harvesting wireless powers by overhearing the uplink signals of users that are relatively nearer to the H-AP, in addition to downlink signal broadcast by the H-AP. In this setting, time allocations for the downlink transmission of the H-AP and the uplink transmission for the users are jointly optimized for two different purposes. First, the weighted sum-rate maximization problem is solved for a given total transmission time. Then, the total transmission time is minimized under a minimum rate constraint, and an efficient algorithm is also presented to solve the optimal solution by a line search strategy. As a benefit of sophisticated interference cancelation techniques, full-duplex (FD) transceiver design may become feasible, even possibly on the aggressive time-scale of fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication systems. Hence, we further develop the recent bidirectional relaying [i.e., the two-way half-duplex (HD) relaying] aided cooperative network to its more radical counterpart, which entirely consists of FD entities for the sake of adapting to emerging FD communication scenarios. In more detail, the proposed bidirectional relaying-aided FD network operates in a decode-and-forward (DF) style and exploits the advanced network coding (NC) concept. We analyze its achievable error-free data rate, where the effects of both the self-interference (SI) and of the geographic location of the relay node (RN) are evaluated. Furthermore, the potential variations of the networking scenario are also taken into account. Based on this theoretical analysis, the optimum rate allocation scheme maximizing the system's error-free data rate is found.
