This correspondence paper studies the impact of nonidentically distributed channel estimation error on performance of a scheduled space-time block coding with mean-value power allocation in cognitive-radio multiple-input multiple-output system. Using the derived probability density function, the exact closed-form expressions of the proposed system for outage probability, ergodic capacity, and symbol-error rate (SER) with both $\rm M$ -ary quadrature amplitude modulation and phase shift keying modulation are derived. Using asymptotic analysis, this paper quantifies the diversity order for both outage probability and SER in the presence of nonidentically distributed error. From the analysis results, this paper shows that the diversity order is enhanced by the multiuser diversity as the number of user terminals increases regardless of outage probability and SER, while the spatial diversity is eliminated. This paper analyzes the ratio of transmit antennas to receive antennas at the base station (BS) in full-duplex multiuser multiple-input–multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems with large-array BS and half-duplex multiantenna users. We consider a full-duplex BS with a block diagonalization (BD) precoder for downlink transmission and a BD receive filter for uplink reception. We derive the approximated downlink sum-rate considering the inter-user interference, and the uplink sum-rate considering the self-interference (SI), for large numbers of BS antennas. Based on the analysis, we formulate an optimization problem in terms of the ratio of transmit antennas to receive antennas to maximize the sum-rate. The analysis shows that the antenna ratio for maximizing the sum rate converges to the ratio of downlink streams to uplink streams as the number of total BS antennas goes to infinity. Simulation results confirm the analysis and show that the BS using the derived antenna ratio in the full-duplex MU-MIMO system can achieve about a 10∼20 b/s/Hz performance gain compared with the BS using an equal number of transmit and receive antennas. In this paper, we investigate hybrid beamforming, user scheduling, and resource allocation optimization based on spectrum coexisting forward transmission in integrated terrestrial-satellite network (ITSN) with the purpose of improving system sum rate and energy efficiency. Considering the limitation of on-board beamforming, a hybrid analog-digital beamforming scheme is designed under the scenario of millimeter wave (mmWave) coexisting in the ITSN framework. Besides, in order to further mitigate intra-beam and inter-beam interference, we propose an adaptive user scheduling scheme, which first determines the cluster center based on adaptive threshold, and then selects users with less channel correlation into a scheduling cluster. Moreover, we model system sum rate maximization problem that incorporates maximum power constrains and minimum data rate requirements. Combined with the aforementioned hybrid beamforming and user scheduling strategy, we formulate the sum rate maximizing problem to a pure power allocation issue. In view of the non-convexity and high complexity, we propose a feasible optimization method based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and logarithmic linearization to optimize the power allocation for each user terminal (UT). Simulation results show that our proposed joint beamforming and resource allocation optimization scheduling scheme can achieve an attractive gain in system sum rate and energy efficiency compared with conservative beamforming and allocations. In this paper, we study user selection (US) strategies for a multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio (CR) downlink network, where the r-antenna underlay CR secondary users (SUs) coexist with a primary user (PU), and all terminals are equipped with multiple antennas. Two main scenarios are considered: 1) The t-antenna cognitive base station (CBS) has perfect or partial channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) from the CBS to the PU receiver (RX), and 2) the CBS has absolutely no PU CSIT. For these scenarios, we propose and evaluate multiple SU selection schemes that are applicable to both best-effort PU interference mitigation and hard interference temperature (IT) constraints. The computational complexity of the proposed schemes can be significantly smaller than that of an exhaustive search with negligible performance degradation. For the selection of C SUs out of K, whereas an exhaustive search is on the order of \mathcal{O}(\binom{K}{C}C^4r^3). When t$ and r$ are of the same order, the computational complexity of the proposed scheme can be \binom{K}{C}C^4/K times smaller. As an emerging technology in 5G, ultra-dense unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) network can significantly improve the system capacity and networks coverage. However, it is still a challenge to reduce interference and improve energy efficiency (EE) of UAVs. In this paper, we investigate a downlink power control problem to maximize the EE in an ultra-dense UAV network. Firstly, the power control problem is formulated as a discrete mean field game (MFG) to imitate the interactions among a large number of UAVs, and then the MFG framework is transformed into a Markov decision process (MDP) to obtain the equilibrium solution of the MFG due to the dense deployment of UAVs. Specifically, a deep reinforcement learning-based MFG (DRL-MFG) algorithm is proposed to suppress the interference and maximize the EE by using deep neural networks (DNN) to explore the optimal power strategy for UAVs. The numerical results show that the UAVs can effectively interact with the environment to obtain the optimal power control strategy. Compared with the benchmarks algorithms, the DRL-MFG algorithm converges faster to the solution of MFG and improves the EE of UAVs. To be differentiated from the literature, in this paper, we aim to alleviate the impact of pilot contamination (PC) on the massive MIMO systems by cooperatively scheduling users (rather than just assigning) among neighboring cells to share the limited orthogonal pilots. To this end, we develop the multi-cell cooperative scheduling (MCCS) algorithm together with the cooperative scheduling indexes (COSIs) for maximizing the data rate, maximizing the Jain's fairness index and reaching a better tradeoff in-between. For convenience, they are denoted by the COSIs for the CMDR, CMMF and CPF schedulers, respectively. However, its high computational complexity may somehow resists its from practical applications. Thus, a low-complexity cooperative proportional fairness (LC-CPF) algorithm is designed to well approach the MCCS algorithm using the CPF COSI; and at the meantime, the order of computational complexity can be significantly reduced. Moreover, its ability to reach a better tradeoff can still be maintained under the impact of high spectrum-sharing interference. In addition, it is interesting to find that using the proposed cooperative scheduling methods, the open-loop power control mechanism is no longer required for compensating the differences of received signal quality between users. As a conventional metric, spectrum efficiency has been investigated widely in communication systems due to the limited bandwidth resources and increasing subscriber density. Beamforming technology is used in TD-LTE-A and 5G downlink to improve the spectrum efficiency and system capacity, and a proper resource allocation algorithm can also be used to improve the spectrum efficiency on the premise of satisfying user equipment (UE) requirements. In recent years, energy efficiency has attracted more and more attention as the power consumption on the communication systems increases rapidly, which lays a heavy burden on the environment. In this paper, we propose a joint resource allocation and power allocation algorithm in multi-user beamforming mode, which aims at maximizing the energy efficiency, and also takes UE requirements and spectrum efficiency into consideration. The proposed algorithm first calculates the user priorities and gives a UE grouping method to allocate resource blocks (RBs) to different UEs under the assumption that the power is equally allocated among UEs on the same RB. After that, on each RB, it calculates the power allocation among different UEs to realize the improvement of energy efficiency. In addition, the satisfaction of UE requirements is added in the algorithm as a constraint. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm shows an excellent performance on system capacity, i.e., spectrum efficiency, and also provides higher energy efficiency than existing algorithms. In this paper, antenna diversity is used to improve the outage performance of downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems combined with single-user multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) due to the statistical channel state information (CSI), that the transmitter only knows the statistical characteristic associated with each user's channel matrix. We design the precoding and detection vectors, which makes the proposed MIMO-NOMA system reduce to a single-antenna NOMA system with statistical CSI. Next, a dynamic power allocation scheme is proposed to maximize the ergodic sum rate of the considered NOMA group with the minimum ergodic rate constraints of the weaker users. Under this power allocation, we analyze the impact of user clustering and then develop a novel user clustering algorithm. Also, the outage analysis indicates that the proposed system only obtains receive diversity and under the proposed power allocation, the users’ diversity gains are linear with their successive interference cancellation decoding orders. In this correspondence paper, we design a massive nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme with delay provisioning for cellular internet-of-things. In the context of massive access, the severe interuser interference decreases the quality of the received signal, such that it is a nontrivial task to provide a delay provisioning for heterogeneous wireless services. To solve this challenge, we propose a massive NOMA scheme to meet the delay requirements of a large number of users by exploiting the properties of rateless codes. Especially, we present a power allocation algorithm to minimize the power consumption while achieving delay-constrained massive access. In this paper, we study resource allocation for multiuser multiple-input–single-output secondary communication systems with multiple system design objectives. We consider cognitive radio (CR) networks where the secondary receivers are able to harvest energy from the radio frequency when they are idle. The secondary system provides simultaneous wireless power and secure information transfer to the secondary receivers. We propose a multiobjective optimization framework for the design of a Pareto-optimal resource allocation algorithm based on the weighted Tchebycheff approach. In particular, the algorithm design incorporates three important system design objectives: total transmit power minimization, energy harvesting efficiency maximization, and interference-power-leakage-to-transmit-power ratio minimization. The proposed framework takes into account a quality-of-service (QoS) requirement regarding communication secrecy in the secondary system and the imperfection of the channel state information (CSI) of potential eavesdroppers (idle secondary receivers and primary receivers) at the secondary transmitter. The proposed framework includes total harvested power maximization and interference power leakage minimization as special cases. The adopted multiobjective optimization problem is nonconvex and is recast as a convex optimization problem via semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation. It is shown that the global optimal solution of the original problem can be constructed by exploiting both the primal and the dual optimal solutions of the SDP-relaxed problem. Moreover, two suboptimal resource allocation schemes for the case when the solution of the dual problem is unavailable for constructing the optimal solution are proposed. Numerical results not only demonstrate the close-to-optimal performance of the proposed suboptimal schemes but unveil an interesting tradeoff among the considered conflicting system design objectives as well. In this paper, we study the codebook size design strategies in the multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC) systems. We adopt the nonlinear Tomlinson–Harashima precoder (THP), which is designed by the imperfect channel direction information (CDI) acquired from the random vector quantization (RVQ) feedback mechanism. Under the limitation of the total feedback rate, we flexibly allocate the size of each user's codebook so that the overall channel capacity is maximized. Since the design problem is not convex, directly finding out the optimum allocation of codebook size is not attainable. However, by sophisticatedly using the discrete majorization theory, we can derive the codebook size allocation strategies for the high- and the low-signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regions. Interestingly, the results show that the equal size codebook is preferable in the low-SNR region, whereas the codebook allocates the whole available codebook size to a single user in the high-SNR region. In this paper, system design for a multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) relay broadcast channel with individual signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraints at mobile stations (MSs) is considered. By exploring the structure of downlink–uplink duality at either the base station (BS) or the relay station (RS), we propose two schemes of joint power allocation and beamforming design at the BS and the RS. The problem of the existence of feasible solutions under practical power constraints at the BS and the RS with given SINR targets is considered first. Then, the problem of sum power minimization is considered. Each design problem can be efficiently solved using optimal joint power allocation and beamforming under the framework of convex optimization. We also show that with subchannel pairing at the RS, the transmission power can be further reduced. Finally, a generalization to the multihop scenario is provided to further improve power efficiency. This paper studies robust interference mitigation against the imperfectness of channel knowledge involved in the interference link of a multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio (CR) system that coexists with a primary radio (PR) system via opportunistic spectrum-sharing (OSS) scheme. The robust design leads to a seemingly complicated matrix-valued problem. Nevertheless, we show that it can be equivalently converted into two convex semidefinite programs (SDPs). One of them is identified as a null-forcing approach with closed-form power allocation, and the other can be reduced to a convex scalar power allocation subproblem by properly relaxing the interference constraint. In multi-user downlink small cell networks, cooperative resource allocation (RA) within a small cell cluster is a key technique to enhance network capacity. However, capacity-maximizing RA in frequency-selective fading channels requires global channel state information (CSI) of users within a small cell cluster, which makes it infeasible in practical networks with limited direct link capacity. To circumvent this global CSI assumption, most of the existing studies on RA have been based on several CSI assumptions such as local CSI and local CSI at the transmitters (CSIT). Nevertheless, cost functions with local CSI or local CSIT in the literature rely on heuristic formulations, because the sum-rate cannot be computed if without global CSI. In this paper, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based RA algorithm to maximize the sum-rate for any given limited information on instantaneous CSI or sum-rate at the previous period. The proposed scheme is not restricted to certain CSI assumptions, but attempts to find the best RA for any given information such as quantized local CSI and quantized local CSIT; thus, it is applicable to any given direct link capacity. The proposed algorithm is self-adaptive in time-varying channels, since it is not divided into training and test phases. We modify the target neural network (TNN) scheme to enhance the sum-rate and the convergence speed. Numerical simulations confirm that: i) the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional algorithms even under the same CSI assumption such as local CSI and local CSIT; ii) a flexible trade-off between the amount of CSI and the sum-rate is realizable in practical systems. In this paper, we investigate a novel relaying technique employing scheduling, precoding, beamforming, and power allocation for a multiuser multiple-input–multiple-output (MU-MIMO) relay network. In the proposed scheme, the interference is canceled by using a combination of transmit–receive weights and Tomlinson–Harashima precoding (THP). To achieve data rate fairness among different users and further improve the performance of MU-MIMO relay networks, we propose a low-complexity power allocation (LC-PA) to allocate power to each user. In addition, an algorithm to select a subset of users that has maximum sum rate performance is proposed. Millimeter wave (mmWave) has been widely considered as a promising technology in the next generation wireless communication systems. Various beam-based directional transmission techniques have been proposed to compensate high pathloss caused by mmWave properties. However, mobility effect of users potentially causes severe inter-beam interferences, which has not been fully-investigated in existing studies. In this paper, we have analyzed different types of mobility-aware beam interference models. Additionally, the theoretical SINR is derived based on channel statistics and the trajectories of users. We propose a mobility-aware subband and beam resource allocation (MSBA) scheme for the mmWave subband-beam massive multi-input multi-output (SB-MMIMO) systems. The proposed MSBA benefits from reduced computation complexity for maximizing system throughput constrained by quality-of-service (QoS) demands of users. The first phase of MSBA scheme is responsible for resource block assignment; while the second phase allocates beamwidth and beam directions according to the analytical derivations. Numerical results show that the proposed MSBA scheme can effectively achieve the highest system throughput and the lowest complexity compared to existing schemes in open literatures. This paper investigates pilot design and allocation in multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output systems with two-tier receiving. As the length of pilot is limited, the pilots cannot be orthogonal and cause interference. The sum rate as well as the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the system are firstly analyzed. The sum rate upper bound and the asymptotic SINR are derived. The analysis shows that the pilot correlation and the spatial correlation jointly affect the sum rate. Based on this observation, the discrete Fourier transform vectors are employed in designing pilots with various correlation values. Then, with the channel correlation information and the designed pilots, the pilots are allocated to the cells in a greedy way with the object of maximizing the sum rate upper bound. Moreover, the sum rate analysis, the pilot design, and the pilot allocation are extended to the scenario with grouped correlations. Different from the existing works, in this paper we investigate the pilot allocation in multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, aiming to maximize the spectral efficiency (SE) subject to the constraint that the number of user equipments (UEs) satisfying the quality of service (QoS) is maximized. Since the considered bilevel optimization problem that is tough to handle, we resort to the greedy algorithms with low computational complexity. We propose a QoS constrained (QC) pilot allocation scheme, which sequentially allocates the pilot sequence having large interference power to the UE with small signal power so that the number of UEs satisfying QoS can be maximized and then the SE can also be maximized. This paper proposes a widely linear processing framework for multiple-input multiple-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MIMO-NOMA) downlink systems. In the framework, a widely linear MIMO-NOMA (WL-MIMO-NOMA) model is derived by assuming that the base station transmits real-valued downlink signals. WL-MIMO-NOMA adopts complex-valued power allocation coefficients to stagger the user signals in phase. The main features of WL-MIMO-NOMA are the following: first, in general case, WL-MIMO-NOMA can remove all the inter-cluster interference and at least half of the intra-cluster interference; and second, in user pairing case, both interferences can be completely eliminated. This is distinct from the existing work where real power coefficients are used, which cannot guarantee the complete separation of the paired user signals because the signals transmitted to the paired users are overlapped in phase. In addition, the closed-form expressions of outage probabilities are derived. The phase difference of the complex power coefficients is optimized to minimize the outage probability. It is proven that, with the optimal phase difference, successive interference cancellation is unnecessary in user pairing case. Finally, the framework is extended to the mixed case of real/complex circular signals. In this paper, we develop beamforming (BF) schemes to minimize the total transmitted power of both uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) in two-tier network with in-band wireless backhaul (WB) while the target rates of user equipment (UE) are satisfied under the backhaul constraints. We propose a centralized BF scheme with an alternate update algorithm optimizing the BF matrices and power allocation vectors. Then the UL-DL feasible target rate region of the proposed scheme is analyzed, which can be enlarged in both UL and DL by increasing the number of antennas of small cell base stations (SBSs). Simulation results show that the proposed in-band WB system for two-tier network can save the power consumption by 33.5% and 82.1% compared with the out-of-band WB system and conventional one-tier network, respectively, at the UE target rates of 80 Mb/s in DL and 40 Mb/s in UL. In addition, we propose a distributed BF scheme to locally optimize the variables at each SBS, which can achieve above 90% of the feasible target rate region of the centralized scheme without the instantaneous information exchange. In this paper, we deal with resource allocation in the downlink of spatial multiplexing multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) systems. In particular, we concentrate on the problem of jointly optimizing the transmit and receive processing matrices, the channel assignment, and the power allocation with the objective of minimizing the total power consumption while satisfying different quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. A layered architecture is used in which users are first partitioned in different groups on the basis of their channel quality, and then channel assignment and transceiver design are sequentially addressed starting from the group of users with most adverse channel conditions. The multiuser interference among users belonging to different groups is removed at the base station (BS) using a Tomlinson–Harashima precoder operating at user level. The fifth generation communication systems aim to achieve higher capacity and more user access. Full-duplex (FD) communication can achieve twice the spectral efficiency of the conventional half-duplex systems under ideal conditions, and FD relay is a common application of FD technology. In this paper, we propose a modified signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (SLNR) precoding scheme for the FD multiuser MIMO relay system, in which the self-interference (SI) of the relay is considered. In contrast to block diagonalization (BD) precoding and zero-forcing (ZF) precoding, SLNR precoding does not have an antenna dimension limitation, which enables it to support more antennas and users. In addition, SLNR precoding balances the interference and noise of a system, whereas BD precoding and ZF precoding only consider the interference. The numerical results show that the proposed SLNR precoding scheme can achieve better performance with low SI. In this paper, the performance of an underlay multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio system is analytically studied. In particular, the secondary transmitter operates in a spatial multiplexing transmission mode, while a zero-forcing detector is employed at the secondary receiver. Additionally, the secondary system is interfered by multiple randomly distributed single-antenna primary users (PUs). To enhance the performance of secondary transmission, optimal power allocation is performed at the secondary transmitter with a constraint on the interference temperature (IT) specified by the PUs. The outage probability of the secondary receiver is explicitly derived in an exact closed-form expression. Also, some special cases of practical interest, including colocated PUs and massive MIMO, are discussed. Further, to mitigate instantaneous excessive interference onto PUs caused by the time-average IT, an iterative antenna reduction algorithm is developed for the secondary transmitter and, accordingly, the average number of transmit antennas is analytically computed. Multicell dynamic time division duplexing (TDD) systems make it possible to adapt the number of uplink and downlink time slots in each cell to the prevailing cell-wide traffic demand. Although dynamic TDD systems can be advantageously deployed in scenarios in which the uplink and downlink traffic demands are asymmetric and time varying, dynamic TDD systems give rise to base station to base station (BS-to-BS) interference and user equipment to user equipment (UE-to-UE) interference that negatively impact the system performance. In this paper, we propose employing a distributed beamforming scheme to mitigate the BS-to-BS interference and thereby to improve the uplink performance. Specifically, the proposed scheme uses interference pricing to find the appropriate precoder vectors at the BSs, which also improves the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) performance in the downlink. We compare the performance of the pricing-based (PB) beamforming scheme with that of zero-forcing beamforming in an outdoor picocell environment specified by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project using a realistic system simulator. We find that the proposed PB scheme boosts the SINR in the uplink at the expense of a small degradation of the downlink SINR compared with the zero-forcing scheme. In this paper, we investigate the resource allocation problem in two-tier heterogenous networks (HetNets) with massive MIMO, where two frequency bands, cellular frequency band and millimeter wave frequency band, are used for wireless backhaul links. To coordinate the interference among small cells (SCs), SCs are grouped into multiple SC clusters (SCCs), where SC users are jointly served by SC base stations (BSs) (SBSs) belonging to the same SCC. To eliminate the multi-user and inter-tier interference, we propose a block diagonalization based precoding scheme at macro-BS and each SCC, where the transmit precoding matrix for users is projected onto the null space of interference channels. Following this, we formulate a power allocation optimization problem to maximize the downlink sum rate of the system subject to per-SCC power and users’ quality of service requirements. Since the formulated problem is nonconvex, we transform it into a convex one by appropriate approximation, and a constrained concave convex procedure based iterative algorithm is proposed to obtain the solution. Furthermore, we prove that the obtained solution converges to the local optimum. Meanwhile, according to the structure of the original formulated problem, we divide it into multiple subproblems and propose an optimal iterative water-filling algorithm. Next, we extend the original problem with per-SBS power constraint, which results in that the precoding of each SCC has to be redesigned. On this basis, we propose an iterative water-filling algorithm to obtain the optimal power allocation and precoding. In particular, the ergodic capacity maximization problem is studied in the Rayleigh fading cognitive MIMO channel under both the total transmit power constraint and a set of interference power constraints where each is applied at one of the primary receivers (PRs). This paper considers that the channel from primary transmitter (PT) to secondary receiver (SR), and the channel from secondary transmitter (ST) to SR are both in short-term fading due to the mobility of SR, whereas the channels from ST to PRs are in long-term fading. By using the Lagrangian dual method, the optimal transmit precoding matrix is derived, and some nearly optimal power allocation algorithms are proposed to maximize the bounds of secondary user ergodic capacity. Performance analysis and simulation results show that the proposed schemes can approach the comparative capacity of the optimal power allocation algorithm, which has perfect instant channel state information (CSI), particularly when the antenna number of the ST exceeds the total antenna number of PRs. Cognitive radio (CR) in conjunction with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiple access is a candidate technology for future mobile radio networks. The short communication range of underlay CR systems is commonly a major limiting factor. In this paper, we propose a computationally and spectrally efficient resource allocation scheme for multiuser MIMO orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing-based underlay CR networks to provide good spectral efficiency gain and, therefore, increased communication range. Since the formulated optimization problem defines a mixed-integer programming (combinatorial task) that is hard to solve, we propose a two-phase scheme to produce efficient solutions for both the downlink and the uplink. Particularly, the first procedure elaborates on an adaptive precoding that is characterized by spectral efficiency due to the degrees of freedom it can provide. The second procedure develops a fast subcarrier mapping algorithm, which can be worked out through optimal power distribution among the CR users. The proposed scheme is optimal for the downlink but, however, near-optimal for the uplink. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relays can improve cell coverage and data throughput for wireless networks. The key challenge for the success of MIMO relay networks is effectively managing the intersymbol interference (ISI) and multiantenna interference (MAI) in multipath channels. In this paper, equalize-and-forward (EF) relaying strategies are employed to mitigate the interference by jointly optimizing equalizer weights and power allocation for dual-hop MIMO relay networks. Two scenarios with different channel state information (CSI) knowledge are investigated: 1) full CSI at the relays and 2) only backward CSI at the relays and the destination. By considering CSI availability and using the minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) criterion, iterative algorithms are proposed for the joint design of equalizer weights and power allocation to resolve the interference problem. We then extend the design to a more general case, in which the direct link between the source and the destination is taken into account. Furthermore, two relay selection algorithms based on allocated power and MSE performance are investigated for the two scenarios, which attain a performance that is comparable to that of cases with brute-force search or without relay selection. For next-generation network topologies, the distributed wireless ad-hoc network is one of the most challenging issues because of the inherent node intelligence decision. Nevertheless, due to the randomness of node distribution, it is difficult to achieve high efficiency without signaling to neighboring nodes to coordinate random interference among the nodes, which, in turn, leads to high computational overhead in general. In this paper, we propose a framework of distributed multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) ad-hoc networks to improve link capacity while achieving computational simplicity without interworking with other links in a fully distributed manner. To achieve this goal, we align three main resource management algorithms, i.e., the distributed link-scheduling algorithm (DLSA), the distributed power allocation algorithm (DPAA), and the distributed cooperative beamforming algorithm (DCBA). In this paper, we propose new resource allocation schemes with (or without) adaptive modulation for coordinated multipoint (CoMP) with multiuser multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (MIMO-OFDMA). In the proposed schemes, a practical linear pre- and postprocessing technique is used to cancel interuser interference and decompose a single-user MIMO channel into parallel noninterfering spatial layers. The transmit power is allocated to spatial layers with (or without) adaptive modulation under the total base station (BS) power constraint and the per-BS power constraint. The set of users for each subcarrier is determined by the exhaustive search user allocation, the sum rate-based user allocation, and the random user allocation. In this work, we investigate the power allocation needed to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of a massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system. We first derive a closed-form expression for the user rate with the presence of pilot contamination caused by inter-cell interference during the channel estimation phase. From the definition of system EE, we propose a maximization problem with two constraints: limited power for pilot and data signals and a minimum value for every user rate. The proposed maximization problem is a fractional programming problem and is very hard to solve directly. Therefore, we propose the first iterative algorithm to transform the original problem into subtractive form. Moreover, we propose the second iterative algorithm to solve the subtractive form maximization problem by approximating it as a convex problem. As the demand to alleviate the high cost and energy consumption problem in cellular communication systems grows, research on ways to compensate the hardware impairments for introducing low-cost devices into multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems is becoming important. In particular, the nonlinearity of power amplifiers may severely degrade the performance of MIMO systems by distorting the precoded signals. In this work, we study the performance and precoding strategy of downlink multiuser MIMO systems with nonlinear power amplifiers. First, we analyze the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of nonlinear systems to establish the relationship between the transmit power and SINR. We find that the condition for maximizing the SINR depends on the average channel gain. Specifically, the maximum SINR is determined by the uncorrelated distortion when the average channel gain is large and by the distortion of precoding vector when the average channel gain is small. Motivated by the analysis, we propose an iterative algorithm, which alternately updates the precoding and power allocation by resolving the complicated coupling factors in the SINR expressions of nonlinear system. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm implicitly controls the total transmit power so that the desired signal, interference, and distortion are properly balanced. A multiple relay-aided downlink (DL) multi-user massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system is investigated to support simultaneous connectivity to cell-edge users. The estimated uplink channel state information (CSI) is used for precoder designs, and statistical DL CSI is adopted for successive interference cancellation (SIC) at the users. The achievable rates are derived, and thereby, the deleterious effects of CSI uncertainty, imperfect SIC, inter-relay interference and intra-cluster pilot contamination are quantified. Fundamental trade-offs between the achievable sum rate and system scalability are explored via two pilot assignment schemes. The performance of the proposed system is compared with that of the orthogonal multiple access (OMA) counterpart. We reveal that the latter performs better in low-user regime because the former's achievable rates are hindered by intra-cluster pilot contamination and imperfect SIC.However, the proposed model provides better system scalability and outperforms OMA in the large-user regime. The performance of zero-forcing (ZF)/null-space (NS) precoding is compared with maximum ratio transmission (MRT). We consider the interference alignment (IA) in small cell networks with full-duplex (FD) self-backhauling equipped on each small base station. First, by leveraging the optimization theory and formulating the IA conditions as a 0–1 integer linear programming (ILP) problem, we establish that the optimal solution of the formulated ILP problem is exactly equivalent to that of its associated relaxed linear programming one, then proposing an efficient approach to judge the IA feasibility, even in FD-based small cell networks with more interference signals. Then, given perfect interference elimination, an adaptive power allocation (PA) problem is formulated, followed by an iterative algorithm leveraging first-order approximations, with its convergence assured. Finally, simulations are conducted to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, showing that the sum rate of FD-enabled networks can benefit from not only the introduction of FD self-backhauling but also the execution of adaptive PA. We propose a location-aware pilot allocation algorithm for a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network with high-mobility users, where the wireless channels are subject to Rician fading. Pilot allocation in massive MIMO is a hard combinatorial problem and depends on the locations of users. As such, it is highly complex to achieve the optimal pilot allocation in real-time for a network with high-mobility users. Against this background, we propose a low-complexity pilot allocation algorithm, which exploits the behavior of line-of-sight (LOS) interference among the users and allocate the same pilot sequence to the users with small LOS interference. Our examination demonstrates that our proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the existing algorithms, even with localization errors. Specifically, for the system considered in this work, our proposed algorithm provides up to 37.26% improvement in sum spectral efficiency (SE) and improves the sum SE of the worst interference-affected users by up to 2.57 bits/sec/Hz, as compared to the existing algorithms. As a benefit of sophisticated interference cancelation techniques, full-duplex (FD) transceiver design may become feasible, even possibly on the aggressive time-scale of fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication systems. Hence, we further develop the recent bidirectional relaying [i.e., the two-way half-duplex (HD) relaying] aided cooperative network to its more radical counterpart, which entirely consists of FD entities for the sake of adapting to emerging FD communication scenarios. In more detail, the proposed bidirectional relaying-aided FD network operates in a decode-and-forward (DF) style and exploits the advanced network coding (NC) concept. We analyze its achievable error-free data rate, where the effects of both the self-interference (SI) and of the geographic location of the relay node (RN) are evaluated. Furthermore, the potential variations of the networking scenario are also taken into account. Based on this theoretical analysis, the optimum rate allocation scheme maximizing the system's error-free data rate is found.
