This paper clearly demonstrates the structure of Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) power supply system and analyzes principles of the finite-state machine (FSM) elaborately. Depending on the characteristics of EAST power supply system and the requirements of it, this paper chooses the real-time Linux as system platform and experimental physics and industrial control system (EPICS) as development tool to design a control system of the EAST poloidal field power system supply. This paper utilizes a temporal logic control based on the FSM in order to regulate the operation process of real-time sequence logic control of 12 sets of power controllers. This design is evaluated and tested, and it completely meets the real-time requirement of the poloidal field power supply (PFPS) control system. Several experiments have proved that this design definitely meets the real-time sequence logic control requirement of the PFPS control system in the complex situations under magnetic fields. This paper discusses the control of a modular multilevel converter (MMC) used as a grid interface for the klystron modulators in the compact linear collider (CLIC). The converter has a DC side load which takes short-duration power pulses, causing high DC side power fluctuations that are not tolerable if seen by the AC grid. The DC–AC power decoupling capability of the MMC enables mitigation of the power ripple on the AC side, guaranteeing compliance with power quality requirements. However, the pulse repetition rate of the CLIC modulators is synchronized the 50-Hz AC grid and this induces permanent power imbalance in the arms of the MMC, causing voltage deviation and overmodulation unless appropriate balancing strategies are implemented. Unlike existing arm balancing methods that control 50-Hz circulating currents to balance the arm powers, the method proposed in this paper introduces an augmented modulation strategy where modulation signals are redistributed among arms based on the demand from a balancing controller. The resulting controller has lower complexity and its simple structure enables an easier design of the balancing loop, which guarantees predictable dynamics in operation. The effectiveness of the method has been demonstrated in simulation for the full-scale CLIC converter ratings and experimentally on a 7-kW MMC prototype operating with a 3.3-kA pulsed DC load. We first briefly summarize a supposedly efficient novel method for measuring the external plasma response as applied to the inherently unstable reversed-field pinch EXTRAP T2R. Second, the set of parameters estimated with this particular method is harvested and fed as input to a discrete-time fixed-order fast-Fourier-transform-decoupled multi-input-multioutput controller synthesis. The thus reconfigured feedback system is implemented and experimentally tested on the real plant T2R. The recorded first-deployment results are encouraging. The overall methodology followed throughout this paper is emphasized and strongly exemplifies applied process control thinking for the stabilization of magnetically confined toroidal plasmas. Some intriguing advantages of permanent-magnet linear synchronous machines (PMLSMs), such as simple structure, high thrust, high efficiency, ease of maintenance, and controller feedback, make it possible to take the place of steam catapults in the future. The conventional PMLSM is renowned for its simple structure and high efficiency, whereby the high reactive power resulted from great leakage inductances during the long stator. Thus, great concern is paid to the section structure of the PMLSM. A sectioned permanent-magnet linear synchronous machine (SPMLSM) used in the EMALS is introduced in this paper, whose stator core is continuous but the armature winding is divided into two sectioned parts. First, the electromagnetic fields of the SPMLSM are investigated analytically. Then, the fields are computed by the finite-element method (FEM) and measured experimentally. Not only are the self-inductances and mutual inductances in one section studied but also the mutual inductances between the two sections. These inductances are then calculated by the FEM and measured experimentally. Good correlation among the results was obtained by these three methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes a newly developed three-level dc-dc converter with wide-input voltage operations for ship-electric-power-distribution systems. The proposed converter is designed with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) techniques. The operational principles, design details and performances of the converter are discussed along with soft-switching characteristics through experimental results. Furthermore, design criteria on the dc-dc converter are focused on the minimization of the circulation current between main switches and a transformer under soft switching. A simple and easy-to-use electric-circuit model for fluorescent lamps is deduced from experimental tests. The lamp arc is modeled as a power-dependent resistance. By incorporating the lamp model with electronic ballast, design equations for dimmable electronic ballasts using half-bridge resonant inverter are derived, and then the dimming operation characteristics can be prdicted analytically. Detailed analysis and design of a dimmable electronic-ballast fluorescent-lamp circuit with frequency control are presented. Accordingly, design guidelines for determining circuit parameters are provided. An electronic ballast with half-bridge series-resonant parallel-loaded inverter is used as an example for illustrating the design procedure. A prototype circuit for a T8-36W fluorescent lamp is built and tested to verify the validity of the proposed model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two types of triggered vacuum switches (TVSs) named TVS-1 and TVS-2 with different configuration in trigger unit were described for investigating the delay characteristics. A design circuit for controlling the TVS is proposed herein. The trigger energy of the controller can be adjusted conveniently. By means of changing the trigger energy, the experimental data show that the delay and jitter times decrease with increasing trigger energy. The delay and jitter times decreases magnificently with the increasing voltage in the main gap. By increasing the main-gap voltage, the triggered probability increases. The TVS-2 has better performance in delay characteristics than TVS-1 because of the improvement in the trigger structure. With a trigger energy of 0.064 J, it is possible to fire both of the TVSs. For the TVS-2 case, the delay time decreases to 2.3 μs, and its jitter time decreases to 1.2 μs when the trigger energy is 1.6 J. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
