Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and spectrum sharing (SS) are two emerging multiple access technologies for efficient spectrum utilization in future wireless communications standards. In this paper, we present the performance analysis of a NOMA-based cooperative relaying system (CRS) in an underlay spectrum sharing scenario, considering a peak interference constraint (PIC), where the peak interference inflicted by the secondary (unlicensed) network on the primary-user (licensed) receiver (PU-Rx) should be less than a predetermined threshold. In the proposed system the relay and the secondary-user receiver (SU-Rx) are equipped with multiple receive antennas and apply selection combining (SC), where the antenna with highest instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is selected, and maximal-ratio combining (MRC), for signal reception. Closed-form expressions are derived for the average achievable rate and outage probabilities for SS-based CRS-NOMA. These results show that for large values of peak interference power, the SS-based CRS-NOMA outperforms the CRS with conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in terms of spectral efficiency. The effect of the interference channel on the system performance is also discussed, and in particular, it is shown that the interference channel between the secondary-user transmitter (SU-Tx) and the PU-Rx has a more severe effect on the average achievable rate as compared to that between the relay and the PU-Rx. In this paper, a new cooperation structure for spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks is proposed, which outperforms the existing commonly used ones in terms of energy efficiency. The efficiency is achieved in the proposed design by introducing random interruptions in the cooperation process between the sensing nodes and the fusion center, along with a compensation process at the fusion center. Regarding the hypothesis testing problem concerned, first, the proposed system behavior is thoroughly analyzed and its associated likelihood-ratio test is provided. Next, based on a general linear fusion rule, the statistics of the global test summary are derived and the sensing quality is characterized in terms of the probability of false alarm and probability of detection. Then, the optimization of the overall detection performance is formulated according to the Neyman–Pearson criterion (NPC) and it is discussed that the optimization required is indeed a decision-making process with uncertainty which incurs prohibitive computational complexity. The NPC is then modified to achieve a good affordable solution by using semidefinite programming (SDP) techniques and it is shown that this new solution is nearly optimal according to the deflection criterion. In this paper, we investigate an underlay cognitive non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based coordinated direct and relay transmission network with imperfect successive interference cancellation, imperfect channel state information, and co-channel interference caused by a multi-antenna primary transmitter. In the secondary network, a source communicates with a near user via direct link and with a far user through the assistance of multiple relays subject to transmit power constraints. Four relay selection schemes are proposed to enhance the performance of NOMA users and the overall system throughput. In our analysis, exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability (OP) of NOMA users and for the overall system throughput are derived. To provide further insights, a performance floor analysis is carried out considering two power-setting scenarios: (i) the transmit powers at the secondary source and relays go to infinity and (ii) the peak interference constraint goes to infinity. Towards real-time configurations, we also design a deep learning (DL) framework for the OP and system throughput prediction. Our results show that the deep neural network exhibits the lowest run-time prediction and root-mean-square error among the proposed DL models. In cognitive networks, the cooperative transmission between primary user and secondary user has been regarded as an effective method to promote harmonious coexistence between themselves where how to balance user's benefits and improve the system throughput is a key issue. In this paper, we study the joint pricing and power allocation strategy for the cognitive relay transmission by using the Stackelberg model which is a classical dynamic game model. We first give presentations of a cognitive relay model over Rayleigh fading channels and then investigate the primary benefits in power saving during this cooperation. According to the profits of primary user (as a game leader) and secondary user (as a follower), corresponding utility functions which describe their overall profits in the cognitive relay transmission are derived one by one. Then, optimal strategies for interference pricing and power allocation are fixed by resolving the objective functions. The existence of the Nash equilibrium and the sufficient conditions for the positive equilibrium are further discussed. In this paper, a two-hop decode-and-forward wireless powered relaying cognitive radio network with interference alignment over Rayleigh fading channels is investigated. The energy-constrained secondary relay node harvests energy from both the information and interference signals. Then, the harvested energy is used by the relay to forward the information signal from the source to the destination node. By applying beamforming matrices to primary and secondary networks, the performance metrics, such as outage probability, capacity, and bit error rate are studied under perfect and imperfect channel state information scenarios for both power-splitting relaying (PSR) and time-switching relaying (TSR) protocols. In addition, the optimal network performance is achieved by calculating the optimal energy harvesting time-switching and power-splitting coefficients. Finally, closed-form expressions for the outage probability of primary and secondary users are derived. Using signal feature as the prior knowledge can improve spectrum sensing performance. In this paper, we consider signal feature as the leading eigenvector (rank-1 information) extracted from received signal's sample covariance matrix. Via real-world data and hardware experiments, we are able to demonstrate that such a feature can be learned blindly and it can be used to improve spectrum sensing performance. We derive several generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) based algorithms considering signal feature as the prior knowledge under rank-1 assumption. The performances of the new algorithms are compared with other state-of-the-art covariance matrix based spectrum sensing algorithms via Monte Carlo simulations. Both synthesized rank-1 signal and real-world digital TV (DTV) data are used in the simulations. In general, our GLRT-based algorithms have better detection performances, and the algorithms using signal feature as the prior knowledge have better performances than the algorithms without any prior knowledge. We study the application of spatial modulation (SM) in overlay cognitive radio (CR) networks, in which the primary and secondary networks work concurrently over the same spectrum band. We assume that the direct link between the primary transmitter and receiver is not available, i.e. broken, and that the CR transmitter assists the primary network as a relay to amplify-and-forward the transmitted symbols of the primary. SM is used in the secondary to split the transmission space into two amplitude-phase modulation (APM) and spatial domains. In the proposed scheme, the secondary transmitter retransmits the primary symbols in APM domain, while its own information is transmitted by the index of transmitting antenna, similar to space shift keying, without causing any interference to the primary receiver. We analyze the performance of the optimal detectors at both the primary and secondary receivers for the case of phase shift keying modulation in terms of the average symbol error rate (ASER). We also study the asymptotic behavior of the ASER at both the primary and secondary at high signal-to-noise ratios. Simulation results show that the SM can be effectively used in overlay CR systems. The problem of joint precoder design for the source and relay nodes of a cooperative cognitive radio (CR) system is investigated. We consider a non-regenerative relaying secondary CR system with underlay spectrum sharing methodology with the primary users. Based on an expression for the achievable throughput of secondary system, we develop an optimization problem to maximize the throughput subject to power constraints at the secondary source and relay, and an interference power constraint at the primary due to secondary source and relay transmission. First, we derive the structure of each of the relay and source precoding matrices separately assuming the other is known. Then, we propose an iterative technique to jointly design the source and relay precoding matrices. The results are also extended to the case where the direct source-destination link is available. Through simulation, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in improving the achievable throughput, and compare its performance with that of numerical optimization, source only precoding, relay only precoding, and a naive amplify-and-forward method. This paper considers the analytical performance of primary users (PUs) subject to interference due to secondary users (SU) in an underlay cognitive radio system over Rayleigh fading. In particular, we focus on a more general spatial configuration where the interfered PU, not only located at the center of the cell, is having a protective region which is free of SUs and the SUs are distributed over a finite area in contrast to the commonly used infinite area assumption. We first characterize the statistical properties of the aggregate interference at the PU due to SUs, by deriving new exact closed form expressions for the moment generating function, cumulants, first, second and third moments and first order expansions of the cumulative distribution functions corresponding to propagation scenarios with path loss factors, two and four. We then investigate the PU performance by presenting new analytical expressions for the outage probability, amount of fading as well as the diversity order and coding gain. This paper presents a joint subcarrier and power allocation algorithm for cooperative multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MU-OFDM) cognitive radio (CR) systems. By simplifying a three-node relay network to a two-node network with the equivalent channel gain, we formulate the resource allocation problem for a cooperative MU-OFDM CR system in a similar form to that for a non-cooperative MU-OFDM CR system. With this problem formulation, a rule is derived for performing subcarrier assignment operations under a given power distribution, where the sum capacity optimization is alternated between the subcarrier and power to form a joint subcarrier and power allocation algorithm. To simplify the high-complexity optimal power allocation algorithm (i.e., the iterative partitioned water-filling algorithm) for the joint scheme, we further develop a simple method for updating the water level when each subcarrier is assigned. Simulation results show that, with or without cooperative transmission, using the proposed method to update the water level achieves a system capacity close to that of the joint subcarrier and power allocation algorithm with the optimal power distribution. Direct sequence and time-hopping sequence designs are proposed for impulse radio ultra-wide bandwidth systems to suppress the mutual interference between ultra-wide bandwidth wireless and coexisting narrowband services. Notch frequencies are created in the ultra-wide bandwidth signal spectrum at bands where narrowband services operate. The direct sequence and the time-hopping sequence designs have low computational complexities and can be easily implemented in practical systems. When combined with the cognitive radio technique, these designs can adapt to channel conditions according to the spectral occupancy information provided by cognitive radio. Numerical results are provided to show that these designs can significantly suppress the mutual interference between ultra-wide bandwidth and narrowband services.
