The Technical Committee on Biological and Medical Measurements (TC-25) aims at establishing, developing, promoting and supporting cooperation among researchers in the different fields of biological and medical measurements. Sensors for the measurement of clinical and/ or biological parameters, instrument and procedure characterization, instrument interoperability and interconnection, and data processing are some of the topics of interest to the TC-25. To those aims, the technical committee designs and realizes joint activities, like study groups aimed at standardization, such as the Subcommittee on Blood Pressure Measurement (SCOBPM); conferences or special sessions, such as the IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Applications (MeMeA); and several special sessions during the annual IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technical Conferences. TC-25 is also continuously engaged to maintain liaisons with other committees, groups, societies and organizations working on topics related to the TC scope. This paper presents the latest updates about the main activities of the TC-25. Some information about the TC-25 activities and targets is briefly presented, then the objectives and the efforts of the SCOBPM are summarized, and finally, the history and latest updates of our main conference, the MeMeA Symposium, are reported.

The IEEE Technical Committee 10 (TC-10), the Waveform Generation, Measurement, and Analysis Committee of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement (IM IEEE Std 1057–2017, Standard for Digitizing Waveform Recorders [2]; IEEE Std 1241–2010, Standard for Terminology and Test Methods for Ana-log-to-Digital Converters [3]; IEEE Std 658–2011, Standard for Terminology and Test Methods for Digital-to-Analog Converters [4]; the IEEE Std 1696–2013, Standard for Terminology and Test Methods for Circuit Probes [5]; and the IEEE Std 2414–2020, Standard for Jitter and Phase Noise [6]. This is article provides an overview of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Technical Committee TC-22 on Intelligent Measurement Systems (https://ieee-ims.org/technical-committee/tc-22). The scope of the TC-22 is related to fostering development and use of artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, and soft computing in measurement systems and related applications [1]–[3].

Despite the difficulties imposed by the worldwide spread of COVID-19, some recent advances have been made by the Technical Committee 17 (TC-17) in topics regarding measurements and materials.

TC-37-Measurements and Networking (current Chair Prof. Domenico Capriglione, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy) began six years ago as a proposal of Prof. Leopoldo Angrisani (University of Napoli Federico II, Italy) and Prof. Claudio Narduzzi (University of Padova, Italy) with the main purpose of increasing awareness and interest in networking and to encourage Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS) members to apply their skills and extend their knowledge of networking-related problems in the field of Instrumentation and Measurement (I&M) applications.

Nanotechnology is, first of all, an issue regarding dimensional aspects that have an impact on all the other considerations. Depending on the interest area, the impact of nanotechnology is observed in design, fabrication process, and utilization. To cope with certification procedures, for instance, and their performance, measurements and instrumentation are key points of this complex mosaic. The IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS) developed a technical committee to strongly deal with nanotechnology in instrumentation and measurements called TC-34. Its activities are introduced here, along with a description of its spinoff event called NANOfIM which is a conference with an insight into the nanotechnology world. The first NANOfIM was held in 2015 in Lecce (Italy).

This technical committee is serving as incubator to nurture emerging technologies and application areas which are relevant to the field of instrumentation and measurement science, methodologies, technologies, and systems.

This article provides an overview of TC-41-Traffic Enforcement Technologies. The stated goals of TC-41 are to: • Develop documentary standards, including design of test artifacts, test and measurement procedures, and minimally acceptable performance requirements; and technology guides for traffic enforcement technologies. • Stimulate the interest of the scientific, academic, and industrial communities in traffic enforcement technologies by conducting workshops and supporting the publication of technical manuscripts. • Promote the awareness, adoption, and harmonization of technical performance standards by local and state traffic enforcement authorities. • Support the development of test and evaluation protocols and conformity assessment requirements. • Maintain liaisons with other technical groups, societies, and organizations, both nationally and internationally, working in the same or similar area.

Technical Committee 39 (TC-39) of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society was founded in 2009 to create a reference for many members of the society working in the field of definition and characterization of measurement systems, devices, components and methods for modern power grids.

The technical and standards activities are presented here for the respective technical committees in the six months before May 2009 and their plans for the next six months.

I have really enjoyed working with the members of the Technical Committees these past few years, but sad to say my tenure in this position is coming to an end. A new Vice President for Technical Activities will be elected for 2009 and this is my last submission in this fi ne magazine. Dr Steve Adam assisted in getting a new PARs going in the Standards arena, with their potential to become IEEE Standards in many important areas. Steve?s contributions were greatly appreciated by all of us who had contact with him.

All medical applications include a measurement component connected to the acquisition, correction, and validation of the medical data. Medical measurements have to deal with the measurand variability, both over time and between patients, being caused by a multitude of intrinsic and extrinsic factors, some known and some unknown. The goal of the Technical Committee on Biological and Medical Measurements (TC-25) is to establish, develop, promote, and support the cooperation among researchers involved in the different fields of medical measurements, so that instrumentation and measurement, medical and biological fields all become highly aware of these problems. In this effort, the Committee promoted the development of the P1721 draft standard on "Objective Measurement of Systemic Arterial Blood Pressure in Humans," which is now on the way for the first ballot. This is an example of fruitful cooperation within the medical field: blood pressure was measured in an empirical way since 1905, and the instrumentation and measurement field aimed at understanding its reliability, i.e., the uncertainty, of the blood pressure measurement.
