I would like to introduce three wonderful papers to all our readers. Q. Xu and Y. Zhao from the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China; X. Shen and K. Chen from the Nanjing Rongce Testing Technology Ltd, China; and Y. Huang from the University of Liverpool, U. K., authored the first paper "Absorption Cross Section Measurement of a Vehicle in Reverberation Chamber for Quick Estimation of Field Strength". For electromagnetic immunity testing of a vehicle, a reverberation chamber (RC) loaded with the vehicle-under-test has to be calibrated so that the necessary input power to generate the required field strength can be determined. In this paper, the average absorption cross section (ACS) of a vehicle in the frequency range of 80 MHz — 24 GHz is measured so that the required electric field strength in the RC loaded with a car can be estimated before the RC is constructed. Once the typical ACS of a car is known, one only needs to measure the Q factor of an unloaded RC and the Q factor of the RC loaded with a car can be predicted. This is very useful before the RC is constructed, as once the RC is built the unloaded Q factor cannot be increased.

As part of the IEEE EMC Society's 50th Anniversary in 2007, a study was done on the most “popular” papers published in the EMC Society Transactions on EMC. The comparison was generated by manually reviewing the Transactions and recording the number of times a paper was referenced. This study culminated in a listing of the most frequently referenced papers over the first 50 years of the EMC Society.

The following series of e-mails detail some interesting observations on a Sprague paper from 1962 that was mentioned in the IEEE EMCS Newsletter in the Fall of 2010. I hope you find it as interesting as I did. The e-mails have been edited for clarity and consistency.

As you might know, the year 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility. As part of the 50th anniversary of the EMC Transactions, the 50 most referenced papers of the Transactions were identified using IEEE Xplore and are presented in Table 1. The top referenced paper of the Transactions is the classical paper by G. Mur (Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Finite-Difference Approximation of the Time-Domain Electromagnetic-Field, Vol. 23, No. 4, 1981). The paper deals with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique and the author presents highly absorbing boundary conditions that can be used for both two-and three-dimensional configurations.

This paper reviews some of the many published technical papers relating to the measurement of IC emissions using a 1 GHz TEM cell or GTEM cell modified to accept an IC test board and provides a basis for correlation between these IC level measurements and module level RF emissions. We will follow the development of this methodology from the early investigations through the later applications to show the viability of the technique for IC qualification. Developments over time have shown that this method of IC emission measurement is repeatable, correlatable to other methods and provides, within limits, useful prediction of module level RF emissions performance.

At present a large range of car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication systems is under development. There are hardly publications about expectable EMC and spectrum management problems and some car manufacturers have not cared about these problems in early development stages. The scope of the paper is to identify and assess possible risks and to propose countermeasures.

In the third quarter issue of the EMC Magazine my good friend Don Sweeney wrote an article on what he did with our colleague Ed Bronaugh's files and the time it took him to do it. He had an excellent ?coding? system with colored tags to indicate everything from shredding to giving to our EMC Society History Committee for further reviewing. What this illustrates is that we need to keep some of the key work of our EMC Society technical leaders so that others can make use of that information. To do this there needs to be an accessible repository of what is in our EMC discipline which of course depends on the eyes of the beholder. Archiving is one way to preserve history of key activities or organizations, explain what made the difference in the past to apply in the future, provide a resource for researchers or to remember those involved in the work.

We are very pleased to present this Special Section that collects several scientific contributions effectively presented as Industry Papers at the 2015 IEEE Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility and Signal Integrity held in Santa Clara, CA, USA in March 2015. The Industry Paper was a new format introduced to the EMC Symposium at Santa Clara. The main reason for this format was to attract high-quality contributions to the technical program by allowing the busy industry authors to submit abstracts for review, considering the fastpaced environment in today's high-speed industry. Due to the practical nature of the EMC field, a high level of professional involvement is essential.
