This Series presents selected papers from the ITU Kaleidoscope Academic Conference that convened in Kyoto, Japan from the 22nd to 24th of April 2013. The topic of the conference was "Building Sustainable Communities," in recognition of the challenges that Japan is facing after the Great East Earthquake. The hosts were the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC) of Japan and Kyoto University. Kyoto University is the second oldest Japanese national university after the University of Tokyo. The IEEE International Conference on Communications 2022 (ICC 2022) was held in Seoul, Korea, from 16–20 May 2022. This article focuses on the expansion of telecommunication. In 1993 a conference on telecommunications in modern satellite, cable, and broadcasting services named TELSIKS was initiated by Professor Bratislav Milovanovic, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University. Substantial progress in the series of TELSIKS conferences was achieved in 1997 when the conference obtained an international character and IEEE technical co-sponsorship. The 3rd Conference on Telecommunications in Modern Satellite, Cable and Broadcasting Services, TELSIKS '97, was held October 8-10, 1997. The fourth conference, TELSIKS '99, was held October 13-15, 1999. When the preparation for TELSIKS '99 was at its most intensive, bombing started in our country. The TEL- SIKS Organizing Committee made many efforts during the time between TELSIKS '97 and TELSIKS '99 to provide some new IEEE sponsorships.

Information about the Annual IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 10-13, 2009 is presented. It was held with the Consumer Electronics Show and was attended by nearly 450 participants. The event was highlighted with its theme "Empowering the Connected Consumer."

The author describes his growing involvement in Communications Society activities that had significant impact on his career. He describes his experience in presenting a paper at the 1982 IEEE International Conference on Communications in Philadelphia on the topic of how the Bell System would maintain its digital telecommunications network, which was then in its infancy. The Communications Society Board of Governors' recognition of the growing opportunities and challenges of conferences when it restructured the Board, with the new structure starting in 2008 is discussed.
