The author describes his growing involvement in Communications Society activities that had significant impact on his career. He describes his experience in presenting a paper at the 1982 IEEE International Conference on Communications in Philadelphia on the topic of how the Bell System would maintain its digital telecommunications network, which was then in its infancy. The Communications Society Board of Governors' recognition of the growing opportunities and challenges of conferences when it restructured the Board, with the new structure starting in 2008 is discussed.

The article provides information on the activities and achievements of the 2007 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) held from March 11 to 15, 2007 in Hong Kong, China. The theme of the conference was Wireless Gateway, given Hong Kong's special position within the fast growing vibrant economies and excitement of China and Asia. Hong Kong is well known for its advances in information and communications technology. Furthermore, WCNC 2007 was a resounding success. It broke every record there was to be broken. It had an overwhelming number of paper submissions, truly exceeding all expectations.

The 14th IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS 2014) was successfully held in Macau, China, from 19?21 November 2014. It was co-organized by the IEEE Communications Society Singapore Chapter, the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Singapore Chapter, and the IEEE Singapore Section, and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society and the IEEE Macau Section. Shri Goyal and Brian Bigalke provide the direct leadership in the department. Mand C is an invaluable service that the Commnications Society provides its members and professionals at large. The fora provide the earliest opportunity for sharing new results and information, peer-to-peer networking, community building, and professional development tailored to a globally diverse membership. The MandC Department organizes a broad spectrum of program events in the communications arena, showcasing research results affecting products, use and application developments and deployment for wireless, optical, and Internet technologies. Conferences are internationally organized around the world, embracing over 65 countries. The organization of a conference consists of a top-level organizing committee. that oversees the conference in partnership with IEEE staff. Combined, it has participation of specialists in all areas of strategic, technical, operational, and financial organizational matters as they relate to event positioning, topical content/focus, local arrangements, financing, and cooperative ventures with various sister, related, and geographic organizations.

From May 14-15, 2004, Cal Poly Pomona's IEEE Communications Society Student Branch held its Fourth Annual Wireless Telecommunications Symposium. The symposium was a very successful event, attracting close to 200 attendees representing 11 countries. Twenty four papers were accepted.

The article provides information on the activities during the 11th Optoelectronics and Communications Conference held from July 3-7, 2007 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Workshops of the conference were held on July 3, which focuses on the radio telecommunication on fiber technologies. In the first workshop, issues of the feasible photonic networks were discussed.
