Many multiple degree-of-freedom (DOF) motors have been researched. However, there are few sensors for multiple DOF position detection. If multiple DOF position is detected by several 1DOF sensors, the machine gets bigger and more complicated. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new resolver for helical 2DOF position detection. Proposed resolver has stator part, mover part, excitation coils, and position detection coils for 2DOF position. Detection coils are arranged alternately in a helical direction. Therefore, proposed resolver can detect helical position. Based on detection of helical motion, proposed resolver can detect linear and rotary position. This paper introduces the structure of proposed resolver and principle of position detection. In addition, the simulation is conducted to confirm that the resolver can detect helical positions, linear position and rotary position.
