Abstract

The article reports that a notification of the suspension of imports and exports of hazardous chemicals at the Tianjin port in Tianjin, China was released by Tianjin Municipal Transportation Commission (TMTC) on August 17, 2015, after explosions occurred on August 12, 2015. Topics discussed include EuroAsia Terminal affected by blasts, diversion of propylene shipments to Dongying port in eastern Shandong province, and possible disruption of propylene production at Tianjin Bohai Petrochemical.

The article reports that the changes to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code effective January 1, 2014 added to the cost of expandable polystyrene (EPS) resin prices. Topics discussed include the requirement for EPS resin to be shipped in either a ventilated container, a container with one door removed or with an open top and the International Maritime Organization-implemented change to address concerns about the flammability of pentane used as a blowing agent to cause EPS to foam.
