Este trabajo presenta una revisión de la investigación urbana reciente en Latinoamérica. La primera sección se apoya en una evaluación llevada a cabo dentro de GURI (Global Urban Research Initiative); la segunda incluye un análisis basado en mis propias investigaciones. El artículo comprende temas como el de la vivienda y la tierra urbana; las políticas sociales y urbanas en las décadas de 1990 y 2000; los asentamientos irregulares y su regularización y revalorización; la división social del espacio y la globalización; el medioambiente, así como la violencia y la falta de seguridad en las ciudades. Finaliza con algunos comentarios respecto del desarrollo teórico del tema tratado. Abstract This paper takes stock of recent urban research in Latin America. Its first section is drawn from an evaluation carried out by GURI (Global Urban Research Initiative), and the second includes an analysis based on my own research. The paper references topics such as housing and urban land issues; social and urban policies in the 1990s and 2000s; irregular settlements and their regularization and upgrading; the social division of space and globalization; the environment, violence and the lack of safety in cities. The paper ends with some remarks concerning the theoretical development of the issues discussed.

This paper presents historical facts from the year 1989 in order to show the relevance of conducting comparative analysis between Latin America and Central Europe at the end of the twentieth century, in the setting of their respective processes of institutional change. It also confirms the existence of common features in the trajectories of countries in these groups, motivating studies of this type to be undertaken as part of a Global History. Common features include the influence on them of neoliberalism, the legacies left by their institutions, and finally a generalised picture of economic and institutional crisis. Hence a historical dialogue between Latin America and Central Europe may be promoted as a way of contributing to Global History. The body of the work is in two parts: an account is given of parallel facts that point to the transcendental nature of 1989, and then, historical events in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland are addressed specifically. The aim of the study is to support and encourage comparative studies of the two subcontinents. El ensayo articula hechos históricos en torno a 1989 con el objetivo de mostrar la pertinencia del análisis comparado entre América Latina y Europa Central a finales del siglo xx, en el marco de los respectivos procesos de cambio institucional. Asimismo, se comprueba la existencia de características comunes en sus trayectorias que motivan este tipo de estudios como parte de una Historia global. Entre estas últimas, sobresalen la influencia del neoliberalismo, las herencias institucionales y un panorama generalizado de crisis económica e institucional. Por lo tanto, es posible promover un diálogo histórico entre América Latina y Europa Central como una forma de contribuir a una Historia global. El trabajo se divide en dos partes: se presentan hechos paralelos que dan cuenta de la trascendencia de 1989 y se abordan eventos en Argentina, Chile, México, República Checa, Hungría y Polonia. Se busca que el análisis apoye y promueva estudios comparados entre ambas regiones.

El presente trabajo cuestiona la delimitación historiográfica de un “cine de o en el exilio” y propone una aproximación más abierta a la aportación de los exiliados republicanos de 1939 a las diferentes cinematografías de los países de acogida. Ofrece, asimismo, un estado de la cuestión sobre los estudios dedicados a los hombres y mujeres republicanos que se dedicaron profesionalmente al cine y, al mismo tiempo, plantea una reflexión teórica sobre la problemática que rodea al estudio de esa parcela de la cultura exiliada. Abstract This paper questions the historiographical definition of a “film of or in exile” and proposes a more open approach to the provision of both exiles from 1939 to the different film industries of host countries. Also offers a state of affairs on studies on men and women who dedicated themselves professionally Republican to the movies and at the same time, poses a theoretical reflection on the issues surrounding the study of this portion of the culture in exile.

Los profundos cambios en el ámbito urbano constituyen un desafío a las lecturas convencionales de las ciudades. Este trabajo aboga por una reformulación epistémica del conocimiento actual de la ciudad por la vía de (1) releer la ciudad de hoy a través de las disciplinas, y no dentro de ellas; (2) incluir en el cuadro a las ciudades pequeñas y medianas junto con las metrópolis, y (3) tomar en consideración las otras ciudades de los países del sur. Al final se presentan algunas contribuciones de América Latina a este esfuerzo. Abstract Profound changes in the urban realm are now challenging the conventional reading of cities. This paper argues for an epistemic reshaping of current urban knowledge by (1) re-reading today’s city across disciplines, not within them; (2) bringing small and mid-sized cities into the picture, alongside metropolises; and (3) taking the other cities of the global South into consideration. Some Latin American contributions to this endeavour are also considered.

A pesar del impacto que la Gran Guerra tuvo en la sociedad argentina, esta temática ha suscitado un escaso interés entre los historiadores, que sólo ha comenzado a revertirse en la última década. Este artículo ofrece un examen de las principales líneas de investigación que han abordado la cuestión: la historia económica, la historia diplomática y, más recientemente, la historia social y la historia cultural. Asimismo, propone algunas reflexiones acerca de posibles perspectivas de investigación que contribuyan a una exploración más sistemática de esta problemática. Abstract Despite the impact of the Great War on Argentine society, this subject has inspired a scarce interest among historians, which has only started to be reverted in the last decade. This paper offers an examination of the main research lines that have dealt with the matter: economic history, diplomatic history, and, more recently, social history and cultural history. It also suggests some reflections on possible research perspectives which could contribute to a more systematic exploration of this problem.
