Introduction: Skin cancer represents an important health problem in the scenario of public health in the country. Of all the malignant tumours, it accounts for 25% of all estimated new cases for 2010/2011, being ranked as the most prevalent type of cancer in our country. Objective: To conduct an epidemiological study with an ecological approach, with geostatistical tools, on the distribution of skin cancer in São Paulo. Method: It was applied the parameters of assessment and standardized incidence ratio (SIR) for the diagnosis of the disease by municipality and year of study. Spatial analysis was performed to identify risk areas. Results: The north, northwest and central state had greater values of SIR. The regions south and southeast have less expressive values of SIR. Conclusion: It was to highlight areas for the occurrence of the disease, but there are important variables that were not controlled, such as migration, which indicates the need for studies in greater detail.
