This study investigates the establishment of the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party in Slovakia during the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic from 1918 to 1938. It examines the centralist approach employed by the party to manage the Slovak provincial organization, which eventually clashed with the predominantly nationalist-driven efforts of the Slovak party leadership. The tensions between the Czech and Slovak parts of the party arose due to the absence of a provincial party executive committee, a lack of programmatic theses that considered the specific needs of the region, unresolved issues of financing the party's activities, and differing views on the political competences of the central and provincial party centres. These issues led to an internal party crisis in Slovakia in the mid-1930s, which was resolved by loosening the Slovak party organization's ties to Prague. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study concentrates on the analysis of "Operation 100", which was drafted by the Communist Czech and Slovak State and party authorities in 1951 in the connection to the attempts for consolidation of the situation in Eastern Slovakia after dissolution the Greek Catholic Church. It was believed by the organisers that after the liquidation of the Greek Catholic Church (1950), the fusion of two Churches would take place very quickly and the believers would be transferred to the successor Orthodox Church. The reality of the years 1950-1951 was, however, different and the organisers needed to prevent a scandal. One of the solutions was a forced resettlement of all the priests (without reference to their age, health condition, or civil profession), who rejected to convert to the Orthodox Church. The "State Church office" in Prague in cooperation with their colleagues in the Bratislava branch drafted in mid-1951 a plan called "Operation 100", on the basis of which the priests were supposed to be moved to the Czech lands, especially the border areas, with their families (originally about 100 priests). The aim was to incorporate them into Czech society as workers. The plan was implemented in 1951-1952. The study analyses the conditions, course of events and the aftermath of the resettlement and hints at the circumstances of the 1956/1962 revision of the persecution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of this study is to present an analysis of the education conditions in the provincial capital of the Moravian Margraviate in the context of the national struggle for compulsory schooling between the German municipal government and Czech national activists at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. At the provincial level, the sharpest edges of Czech-German conflict were to be blunted by the Moravian Compromise concluded in 1905, which included four provincial laws for the most troublesome areas, including the lex Perek. This study analyses and interprets the situation in Brno education through the lens of Czech emancipatory efforts from the mid-1870s to the passing of the lex Perek. Furthermore, it explains the situation after its passing, when the fight for the child was not coming to an end despite the concluded Czech-German Compromise - it rather escalated. This text thus deals with the real impact of one of the four provincial laws concluded within the Moravian Compromise, using the example of pre-war Brno. It is a probe into the issue at hand that uses the example of the provincial capital. The probe represents a practice that was far removed from the contemporary government's presentation of the concluded compromise as a „model" solution to the problematic Czech-German coexistence within the multinational monarchy. Based on the preserved fragments of written remnants and period media reports, the author highlights his relationship to the region of Czech Silesia and Ostrava, in particular, to the important issues of education and economy. The contribution is devoted to a frequently overlooked, yet very important aspect of the professional activity of the Czech scholar, pedagogue and translator Pavel Oliva, who is celebrating his 90th birthday this November. The author of this contribution defined important facets of his work, which have not yet been evaluated in Czech Classical studies so far: producing portraits of significant historical figures (Solon, Demosthenes, Polybius, Spartacus), popular-synthetic synopses about the history and culture of Ancient Greece, encyclopaedic entries, translations of Classical authors (Greek poetry, Polybius, Demosthenes, Aristotle), and the Holocaust as a memory of a distant past.
