The article discusses the 1952 scandal about Richard M. Nixon called the "Fund Crisis," the result of a September 18, 1952 article entitled “Secret Rich Men’s Trust Fund Keeps Nixon In Style Far Beyond His Salary” which appeared in the New York Post newspaper. The article alleged that Nixon, vice-presidential running mate for General Dwight D. Eisenhower during the 1952 U.S. Presidential election, was taking political kickbacks. The author considers how the scandal impacted the interpersonal relationship between Eisenhower and Nixon. He also considers scandals involving White House Chief of Staff Sherman Adams in 1959 and chairman of the Federal Communications Commission John Doerfer in 1960.
