Abstract

Nucleotide variation at the no-on-transient A (nonA) gene, which encodes a putative RNA-binding protein, has been studied in Drosophila littoralis. The coding region has been sequenced and compared with those in D. melanogaster and D. virilis. In D. littoralis and D. virilis the genes were alike, but the 5' region was different in D. melanogaster.For the glycine repeat regions the situation was similar. No significant deviation from neutrality was found in the intraspecific nucleotide variation in the 5' or 3' region of the nonA gene in D. littoralis.
