Kadsufolins A-D (-, resp.), four new dibenzocyclooctane-type lignans, were isolated from the roots and stems of Kadsura oblongifolia, together with eleven known lignans. Their structures and configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR techniques. The compounds were also evaluated for cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines A549 (lung carcinoma), DU145 (prostate carcinoma), KB (epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx), and HCT-8 (ileocecal carcinoma). Kadsufolin A (), kadsufolin D (), angeloylbinankadsurin A, and heteroclitin B were found to show cytotoxic activities against A549, DU145, KB and HCT-8 with GI values of 5.1-20.0 μg/ml. Seven new oxygenated lignans, kadsuphilins G–M (1–7, resp.), were isolated by chromatographic fractionation of an AcOEt extract of the aerial part of Kadsura philippinensis including four compounds with a dibenzocyclooctadiene skeleton, two with a bicyclooctane ring system, and one of 1,4-biphenyldimethylbutane type. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analyses, particularly 2D-NMR experiments (HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY). From the stems of Kadsura heteroclita (Roxb.) Craib, a new novel C19 homolignan, heteroclitin N (1), as well as three new lignans, heteroclitins O—Q (2–4), were isolated. Their structures were elucidated based on spectral analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR experiments. There is an additional spirocyclic oxirane system in heteroclitin O (2), which is the first example of a lignan with an oxirane ring in a spirobenzofuranoid dibenzocyclooctene structure in the genus Kadsura. Two new triterpene lactones, polysperlactones A (2) and B (3), were isolated from the stems of Kadsura polysperma, together with the known compounds heteroclitalactone D (1) and schisanlactone E (4). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 2D-NMR and HR-MS techniques. The configuration of 1 was confirmed by X-ray analysis. From the leaves and stems of Kadsura longipedunculataFinet et Gagnep (Schisandraceae), a new triterpenoid, schisanlactone E (1), and two new lignans, 9-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-3′-methoxy-3,4-(methylenedioxy)-7,9′-epoxylignan-4′-ol (3) and 3-methoxy-3′,4′-(methylenedioxy)-9,9′-epoxylignan-4,7′-diol (4), together with seven known compounds, were isolated.
