Background: It is essential to better understand the caregiving burden and its determinants to support caregivers. The aim of this study was to test the validity and reliability (internal consistency) of the caregiver burden inventory (CBI) in Iranian caregivers of elderly patients with Alzheimer.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted to translate and validate the CBI in Iran. The structural validity of the scale was evaluated by exploratory factor analysis. The concurrent validity was tested correlating the CBI scores with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scores. The internal consistency reliability was assessed using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient.Results: In total, we enrolled 315 caregivers of elderly patients with Alzheimer disease (79% women, mean age 56.5 ± 13.9). The structural validity of the CBI as assessed by exploratory factor analysis indicated three factors (emotional/psychological, time-dependence and physical burden) that jointly explained 45.21% of the total variance observed. The Pearson correlation coefficient for the relationship between the scores obtained on the Caregiver Burden Inventory and the BAI and the BDI were 0.69 and 0.49 respectively, confirming the concurrent validity. The Cronbach's alpha for the CBI was 0.91 ranging from 0.78 to 0.92 for its subscales.Conclusion: Used in clinical practice and research, the CBI was verified to be a proper multidimensional instrument for evaluating the burden in caregivers of elderly patients with Alzheimer disease. Background: The psychosocial impact of dental aesthetics questionnaire (PIDAQ) is an efficient tool for assessment of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). It evaluates the effect of dental esthetics on the psychosocial status of young adults. This questionnaire has been translated to many languages so far. However, it has not yet been translated to Persian. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Persian version of PIDAQ for use among the young adults.Material and Method: The questionnaire was translated to Persian, back-translated to English and underwent cultural adaptation and pretesting. It was then filled out by 398 young adults (215 females and 183 males) between 18 to 30 years in Shiraz, Iran. The Persian version of PIDAQ along with the index of orthodontic treatment need-aesthetic component (IOTN-AC) and the perception of occlusion (POS) index were administered among participants to assess its discriminant validity.Results: Factor analysis extracted four domains and the factor loading of domains ranged from 0.479 to 0.837. The Cronbach's alpha for the Persian version of PIDAQ ranged from 0.809 to 0.886. The mean score for each of the domains and the total score for PIDAQ, classified according to IOTN-AC and POS, showed a significant difference. The mean score acquired by subjects requiring orthodontic treatment was significantly higher than the score acquired by those not requiring orthodontic treatment (P = 0.00).Conclusion: The Persian version of PIDAQ has optimal validity, reliability and responsiveness for assessment of the psychosocial impact of malocclusion on the Iranian young adults. Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) as a most frequent and costly NCDs account for about 17.3 million annual deaths worldwide. About 80% of these deaths are taking place in low and middle income countries (LMIC). The survivors may experience severe disabling consequences with extensive impacts on their quality of life. The HeartQoL is a relatively new scale to measure health-related quality of life in CVD patients and was validated for use in other languages. Main aim of the present study was to validate the HeartQoL for Persian speaking populations.Design and Methods: In this cross-sectional study the participants were 557 admitted patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) across three specialized hospitals in Tabriz, North West of Iran from Sep 2014 to Feb 2015. Translation back-translation procedures were applied to prepare the Persian version of the HeartQol (HeartQoL-P) and the content validity of the scale was evaluated by an expert panel of 10 academic staff. Construct validity was assessed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The internal consistency was assessed based on the numeric value of Cronbach's alpha and sensitivity of the measure according to the ceiling and floor effect's values.Results: The two-factor structure of the HeartQoL-P was supported by the confirmatory factor analysis' outputs and good internal consistency measures (total score α = 0.94) (physical subscale (10 items) α = 0.95) and emotional subscale (4items) α = 0.80)). No ceiling and floor effects were observed for the overall HeartQol-P's score.Conclusion: The findings supported the HeartQoL-P usability as a valid instrument in studies on the Iranian or other Persian speaking patients.
