A recent study conducted at Peking University in Beijing, China, has developed a biosensor using a nanowire that allows for real-time sampling of the conformational dynamics of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). IDPs are important therapeutic targets for human diseases, but their transient conformations are difficult to probe due to their heterogeneity. The researchers successfully characterized the conformational transition dynamics of a specific IDP using their biosensor, and were able to distinguish protein-protein interactions from large-amplitude current signals.
