AIM: To compare three clinically similar patient groups and a control group in terms of tear function tests, ocular surface staining and conjunctival impression cytology.METHODS: This was a single-centre, prospective, double-blind, randomised and controlled trial. The study includes 20 dry eye patients with Schirmer 1 scores less than 10mm and a tear film break-up time(TBUT)less than 10s, 20 anterior blepharitis patients with drying and crusting of the eyelashes, 20 seasonal allergic conjunctivitis patients with papillary hypertrophy of the upper eyelid tarsal conjunctiva and 20 control group patients. The Schirmer scores, TBUT scores, ocular surface staining(as graded by the Oxford scheme scale), goblet cell density(as observed using impression cytology and metaplasia scores for all patients evaluated by the Nelson grading scheme)were compared.RESULTS: Significant differences were identified between these patient groups and the control group in terms of tear functions tests, ocular surface-staining scores, goblet cell density and metaplasia scores(PCONCLUSION: Inflammatory response against these three diseases was demonstrated to cause damage in parallel to the severity of the local inflammation they generate on the ocular surface. We confirmed that this damage has very serious effects, especially on conjunctival goblet cell density and metaplasia. We believe that the degree of this loss in goblet cells is correlated with clinical findings.

AIM: To explore the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)in elder patients.METHODS: Through the questionnaire survey, tear break-up time, Shimmer I test, corneal fluorescein staining and meibomian gland secretion examination, 74 cases(145 eyes)of meibomian gland dysfunction were divided into mild, moderate, severe group. According to the disease degree, dredging, cleaning combined eyelid massage, artificial tears, or anti-inflammatory, anti-infection were performed, respectively.RESULTS: Totally 74 patients were treated for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)with 145 eyes. After one month, the ocular surface disease index decreased, the meibomian gland secretion grade lowered, the time period of tear broken was extended, the ocular surface staining grade lowered. The ratio of total cure was 34.5%, and the ratio of efficiency was 98.6%.CONCLUSION: Ophthalmology physicians should master the clinical characteristic of MGD for the elderly patients. Symptoms, illness history inquiry and MGD test were highly regarded to avoid misdiagnosis and error treatment.

AIM:To compare the effects of different adjustable suture in glaucoma trabeculectomy on early tear film function. METHODS: Sixty-eight cases of primary glaucoma(76 eyes)during January 2012 to June 2014 in our hospital were selected and divided into exposure conjunctival suture group(34 cases, 36 eyes)and embedded conjunctival suture group(34 cases, 40 eyes)according to treatment. Adjustable suture exposed conjunctival suture and embedding conjunctival suture was given to two groups, respectively. Intraocular pressure(IOP)before and after treatment 7, 14, 30d were observed and Schirmer test, tear break-up time, No Hikaru sensitivity and the occurrence of adverse reactions after treatment 1, 30d were recorded. RESULTS: After the treatment, the mean IOP of two groups were decreased significantly(PP>0.05), after treatment 7, 14, 30d embedded conjunctival suture group was significantly higher than that of exposure conjunctival suture group(PPPPCONCLUSION:Trabeculectomy operation with adjustable thread embedding conjunctival suture has few effects on the tear film function in patients with early postoperative complications, lower, and operation effect is better than that of exposed conjunctival suture.

AIM: To evaluate the clinic efficacy of protein-free calf blood extract ophthalmic gel on healing children dry eye. METHODS: One hundred patients(50 patients each group)with children dry eye were divided into two groups randomly: control group was dropped 1g/L sodium hyaluronate eye drop four times per day and experimental group was dropped protein-free calf blood extract ophthalmic gel four times per day. Both groups received the depathogeny treatment at the same time. Symptom scores, Schirmer I test values, tear break-up time(BUT), cornea fluorescein staining scores were recorded on the prior treatment and 30d post-treatment, then they were analyzed. RESULTS: There were statistically significant difference(PPCONCLUSION: There is a clearly beneficial effect of protein-free calf blood extract ophthalmic gel on healing children dry eye.

AIM: To study the lacrimial pump functions and tear proteins of patients with functional Epiphora.METHODS: One hundred cases(200 eyes)with functional epiphora and 20 cases(40 eyes)of nonfunctional controls were recruited and under routine ophthalmic examinations, including Schirmer I test, Schirmer I test while pressing the lacrimal sac, tear film break-up time(BUT). Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect main tear proteins, and the results were compared with control group. RESULTS: Compared the result of the Schirmer I test on the normal subjects while pressing the lacrimal sac with that of releasing the lacrimal sac, the difference was significant(t=-4.008, Pt=-0. 811, P>0.05). The mean BUT was significantly shorter than that in the normal subjects(t=-5.382, PPP>0.05).CONCLUSION: The damage of lacrimal pump function plays a great role in the functional epiphora and the tear proteins of functional epiphora patients changed.

AIM: To discuss the effect of wearing customized curvature soft corneal contact lens to dry eye degree of flight attendants.METHODS: Eighty cases(160 eyes)of flight attendants from China Southern were divided into two groups: control group 40 cases(80 eyes)wearing ready-made Bausch soft corneal contact lens(curvature 8.4); the experiment group 40 cases(80 eyes), wearing Bausch soft corneal contact lens with customized curvature. Tear break-up time(BUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test(SⅠt)and fluorescein(FL)staining were as dry eye evaluation index. The results was statistically analyzed.RESULTS: BUT, SⅠt average shortening value of the experimental group were less than that of the control group, there was statistical significance(PPCONCLUSION: Wearing customized curvature soft corneal contact lens can prevent the flight dry eye more effectively than fixed curvature product.

AIM: To observe the changes of tear film on the patients after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)with corneal flap created by femtosecond laser and microkeratome.METHODS: Totally 150 patients(300 eyes)with myopia received operation of LASIK. Patients were divided into two groups according to the methods of making corneal flap. The patients of group one were assigned to receiving LASIK with corneal flap creation by Intralase femtosecond laser(190 eyes of 95 patients), group two were assigned to receiving LASIK with corneal flap creation by microkeratome(110 eyes of 55 patients). Dry eye symptom score, tear break-up time(BUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test(S I t), corneal fluorescein staining(FL)were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively at 1wk; 1, 3 and 6mo. RESULTS: Dry eye symptom score: there existed obvious differences at 1wk; 1, 3mo between two groups(PP>0.05). BUT: there existed obvious differences at 1wk, 1, 3mo between two groups(PP>0.05). SchirmerⅠ test: there existed obvious differences in the 1wk, 1, 3mo between two groups(PP>0.05). FL: there existed obvious differences in the 1wk, 1, 3mo between two groups(PP>0.05).CONCLUSION: The early stability of tear film decrease after operation in both of the two groups. The dry eye symptoms are lighter and recover faster.

AIM: To investigate the effect of Carbomer eye gel and recombinant human epidermal growth factor(rhEGF)on dry eye after cataract surgery in diabetics.METHODS:A total of 160 patients(160 eyes)with diabetes undergone phacoemulsification with a diagnosis of dry eyes were randomized divided into two groups, treatment group(80 cases, 80 eyes)and control group(80 cases, 80 eyes). In treatment group, the patients were treated by Carbomer eye gel and rhEGF. In control group, the patients were treated by Carbomer eye gel. The subjective dry eye symptoms, tear break-up time(BUT), Schirmer I test(SⅠt)and cornea fluorescein staining(FL)were observed before treatment, 1, 4wk after treatment.RESULTS: There was no significant difference between groups before treatment(P>0.05). After treatment at 1, 4wk, the subjective dry eye symptoms and the results of three examination(BUT, SⅠt and FL)in two groups better than those before treatment(PPPPCONCLUSION: Carbomer eye gel can relieve the dry eye symptoms of diabetes after phacoemulsification effectively, and it can be more effective to combine Carbomer eye gel with rhEGF at early stage after phacoemulsification.

AIM: To observe the changes of tear film on the patients after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)with corneal flap created by femtosecond laser with the different gender.METHODS: The 120 myopic patients(240 eyes)who underwent femtosecond laser surgery LASIK from August to September 2013 were collected, and these patients were followed up for 3mo. The patients were divided into two groups according to the gender, group A was male(110 eyes of 55 patients); group B was female(130 eyes of 65 patients). Dry eye symptom score, tear break-up time(BUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test, corneal fluorescein staining were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively in 1wk,1,2,3mo. RESULTS: Dry eye symptom score: it was statistically significant between two groups after operation in the 1wk,1, 2mo(P=0.000,0.023, 0.030). It had no statistical significance between the two groups in 3mo(P=0.283). BUT: it was statistical significance between two groups after operation in the 1wk,1, 2, 3mo(P=0.000,0.017, 0.026, 0.032). SchirmerⅠ test: it was statistically significant between two groups after operation in the 1wk, 1, 2mo(P=0.012,0.024, 0.018). It had no statistical significance between the two groups in 3mo(P=0.206)Corneal fluorescein staining: it was statistically significant between two groups after operation in the 1wk, 1, 2, 3mo(P=0.022,0.015, 0.036, 0.041).CONCLUSION: The influence of tear film after femtosecond laser surgery for men less than that for women.

AIM: To evaluate the function of the microprobe dredging technology in the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)and to provide fast, efficient, economical and practical method of treatment for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD). METHODS:The 100μm diameter stainless steel wire was made as the microprobe with the total length of 3cm, which the needle was about 5mm and hand shank was about 2.5cm. Selected 140 cases with dry eyes of meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD), patients were divided into two groups and made them have comparability. Observation group(n=70)used microprobe to dredge meibomian gland pipe accompanied with drugs, hot compress and meibomian gland massage treatment. The control group(n=70)was given conventional drugs, hot compress and meibomian massage treatment. To compare the tear break-up time(BUT), efficient rate and the cure rate of the two groups after treatment of 1d, 1wk, 2wk, 1 mo, 2mo and 3mo.RESULTS: BUT were significantly prolonged in observation group and control group after treatment, and the observation group improved more obviously; the efficient rate and cure rate of the observation group were significantly higher than that of the control group after 1d, 1wk, 2wk, 1mo, 2mo and 3mo treatment. CONCLUSION:Using microprobe to unclog the meibomian gland tube can provide the fast and efficient, economical and practical treatment for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD), which can be promoted in the clinical practice.

AIM: To analyze the correlation between tear film changes of allergic conjunctivitis and dry eye, then provide clinical references for better treatment. METHODS: Fifty patients with allergic conjunctivitis were taken as the observation group, the control group was selected based on 1:1 case control theory, and we chose 50 health volunteers without ocular surface diseases, xerophthalmia and systematic diseases randomly, then fluorescein(FL)staining, break-up time(BUT), Schirner I test(SⅠt), tear meniscus high(TMH)and slit-lamp examinations were performed in the two groups. RESULTS: In the observation group, FL, BUT, SIt, TMH of right eyes and left eyes were statistically significant correlated(PPPCONCLUSION: Due to inflammatory mediators participation, allergic conjunctivitis could lead to the stability changes of tear film which cause in dry eye. The stability changes of allergic conjunctivitis correlate to the damage degree of epithelium.

AIM:To observe the changes of tear film on the patients after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)with corneal flap created by femtosecond laser with Oculus corneal topography.METHODS:Totally 120 myopic patients(240 eyes)were collected who underwent femtosecond laser surgery LASIK from August to September 2013, and these patients can be followed up for 3mo. Tear break-up time(BUT)and tear meniscus height(TMH)with Oculus corneal topography were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively at 1wk; 1, 2 and 3mo.RESULTS: Oculus BUT: there existed obvious differences(P=0.012, 0.000, 0.023P=0.236>0.05)existed in 3mo compared with the preoperative level. TMH: there existed obvious differences(P=0.025, 0.019, 0.026P=0.375>0.05 )existed in 3mo compared with the preoperative level.CONCLUSION: Femtosecond laser surgery affects the stability of the tear film at a certain time and a certain extent. The mechanism related to many factors. It is temporary and lighted.

AIM: To evaluate the effects induced by topical antiglaucomatous drugs, Travoprost eyedrops on tear film. METHODS: Eighteen patients(32 eyes)with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension were all treated with Travoprost eyedrops once every night. The symptom score, Schirmer's test(SⅠt), corneal fluorescein staining(FL), tear film break-up time(BUT), were observed before the treatment and 1, 2 and 3mo after the treatment. RESULTS: The average symptom score, FL of all patients were 1.34±1.56 and 0.44±0.73 before the treatment, and 2.75±1.63, 1.08±0.84; 5.10±1.68, 1.53±0.67; 6.33±1.40, 1.98±0.50 respectively after 1, 2 and 3mo of the treatment. There was significant increase in symptom score and FL after the treatment for 1, 2 and 3mo(P=0.00). The average BUT, SⅠt of all patients were(7.76±0.92s),(8.47±2.73mm/5min)before the treatment, and(7.08±1.15s),(7.73±3.44mm/5min);(5.59±1.33s),(6.82±3.05mm/5min);(4.29±1.87s),(6.04±3.15mm/5min)respectively after 1, 2 and 3mo of the treatment. There was significant decrease in BUT and ST after the treatment for 1, 2 and 3mo(P=0.00).CONCLUSION: Travoprost eyedrops can obviously aggravate patients' corneal irritation after treatment. Our results show abnormal decreased tear secretion and stability of tear film induced by Travoprost eyedrops over the short term.

AIM: To observe the efficacy of high concentrations of sodium hyaluronate(3g/L SH)for moderate to severe dry eye. METHODS: Forty moderate to severe dry eye patients were included in the study according to the diagnosis criteria and randomized into two groups. The patients of the trial group received topical administration of high concentration sodium hyaluronate(3g/L), and those of the control group received sodium hyaluronate(1g/L)plus recombinant human epidermal growth factor. The dry eye symptom scores, ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scores, tear film break-up time(BUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test and corneal fluorescein staining score were evaluated.All the indexes were compared between the two groups 2wk before and after treatment. RESULTS: There were no significant differences of the indicators between the two groups before treatment. After 2wk treatment, the differences were statistically significant compared to former except for the Schirmer Ⅰ test. Compared with the control group, the symptom scores and the OSDI scores were lowered. No significant differences were found in the other indicators between these two groups. CONCLUSION: Topical usage of highconcentrations of sodium hyaluronate(3g/L)is beneficial for remitting the ocular symptoms in moderate to severe dry eyes, and also improve the quality of life of patients.

AIM: To observe the clinical effects of the excision of pterygium combined with limbal epithelial autograft with conjunctival grafting on recurrent pterygium. METHODS: Totally 84 patients(84 eyes)with first recurrent pterygium were allocated two groups: excision pterygium with limbal epithelial autograft with conjunctival(group A, 43 cases with 43 eyes)and excision of pterygium with conjunctival autograft(group B, 41 cases with 41 eyes), the post-operative follow-up period of 12 months, we analyzed the repair time of epithelium, tear break-up time(1 month and 3 months), Schirmer l test(1 month and 3 months), corneal fluorescence staining test(1 month and 3 months), and recurrent rate. RESULTS: The group A had a shorter repair time of epithelium and lower recurrent rate, compared with the group B, which had statistically significant difference(PP>0.05). CONCLUSION:Limbal epithelial autograft with conjunctival transplantation is a convenient, safe, effective method for the treatment of recurrent pterygium.

AIM: To observe the efficacy of deproteinated extract of calf blood ophthalmic gel with artificial tears local eye drops in treatment of dry eye.METHODS: A randomized, parallel-control approach was adopted, 150 patients(300 eyes)with dry eye were divided into treatment group and control group equally(75 cases, 150 eyes). The treatment group was applied Dextran and Hypromellose eye drops combined with deproteinated extract of calf blood ophthalmic gel, simply Dextran and Hypromellose eye drops for control group. Clinical symptoms, SchirmerⅠ test(SⅠt), break-up time(BUT), corneal fluorescein staining and tear protein were observed. Therapeutic observation was 3mo.RESULTS: BUT, SⅠt, and corneal fluorescein staining have statistical significance before and after treatment(PPPPPCONCLUSION: The deproteinated extract of calf blood ophthalmic gel with artificial tears local eye drops perform better than artificial tears eye drops only in treatment of dry eye.

AIM:To compare the therapeutic effects of different surgical methods of treating patients with pterygium and to observe tear film stability. METHODS:A total of 90 pterygium patients(90 eyes)were randomly divided into three groups, each 30 cases(30 eyes). The eyes in group A were treated with pterygium excision surgery; the eyes in group B were treated with 0.2g/L mitomycin-C and pterygium excision surgery intraoperatively; and the eyes in group C were treated with pterygium excision combined with self-corneal limbal stem cell transplantation. Data including Schirmer Ⅰ test(SⅠt), tear break-up time(BUT), conjunctiva fluorescein staining(CFS), and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively to evaluate the clinical efficacy of surgery and the effects of tear function changes. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in BUT in group A before the operation and one month after operation. Group B and C showed significant difference before and after operation, but differences were not statistically significant(all PPPP>0.05). CONCLUSION: Pterygium excision combined with self-corneal limbal stem cell transplantation is an ideal surgical method in treating pterygium, and can partly restore the tear functions into normal state in patients with pterygium.

AIM: To observe the effect and clinical significance of alcohol pretreatment during the pterygium surgery.METHODS: Totally 300 eyes with pterygium were randomly divided into two groups. Control group: 142 eyes with pterygium were peeled under local anethesia and their degenerative organization of pterygium was cleaned up followed by a transplantation of corneal limbus with an autologous conjunctival flap. Experimental group: 158 eyes with pterygium were placed with a special metal ring used in LASEK on the head of pterygium to isolate the treatment area under local anesthesis, then, the treatment area within the ring was filled with the alcohol with a concentration of 200mL/L for 40-60s, followed by an adequate flushing with saline. Subsequent surgical procedure was the same as control group. RESULTS: Follow-up for all patients ranged from 1 month to 3 years. Postoperatively, 158 eyes of experimental group had better operative effect than control group. Experimental group had better would healing, complete tissue construction, and improved visual quality. The break-up time of tear film for experimental group was significantly prolonged than that for control group. The average corneal astigmatism and total higher-order aberrations of experimental group were significantly lower than that of control group. The recurrence rate of experimental group was also significantly lower than control group. There's no significant difference in the incidence of complications.CONCLUSION: Alcohol pretreatment during the pterygium surgery is a safe and effective method.

AIM: To explore the expression and clinical significance of chemotactic factor receptor-3(CXCR3)of female patients conjunctival with dry eye at perimenopause. METHODS: Thirty dry eye case(60 eyes)in the patient at perimenopause of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University and thirty dry eye cases(60 eyes)in patient at non-perimenopause were selected. The conjunctival epithelial cells at perimenopause and non-perimenopause in dry eye cases were obtained by impression cytology methods, and then immersed into the centrifugal tube with corresponding number respectively and the expression of CXCR3 in conjunctival epithelium of at perimenopause and non-perimenopause in dry eye cases were detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS: The break-up time(BUT)and Schirmer Ⅰ test result of perimenopause was significantly lower than those of non-perimenopause(F=4.076, 5.023; PPr=-0.753, r=-0.684; PP>0.05).CONCLUSION: CXCR3 plays an inflammatory mediators role in dry eye mechanism and its expression level reflects the progress of dry eye at perimenopause.

AIM: To investigate the morbidity of dry eye in policeman of Shunde district, and to analyze the related factors and proposed methods of preventing and treating dry eye.METHODS:Totally 650 policemen who came for physical examination in Shunde district recived questionnaire survey. The patients with dye eye disease were finally diagnosed through slit lamp examination, Schirmer test, tear film break-up time(BUT)measurement and keratoconjunctival fluorescent staining. The morbidity among different policemen was further analyzed and stasticed.RESULTS:The results showed that 152 in 650 policemen suffered from dry eye disease, the ratio was 23.4%. Comparied with security police and crimanl police, the ratio in traffic police, patrolman,and back office police was significantly higher. The prevalence was higher when the ages were greater than 40.CONCLUSION: Unsuitable working environment, air contamination are high risk factors of dry eye disease.

AIM: To investigate the influence of protein free calf blood extract eye gel on dry eye after pterygium surgery. METHODS: Thirty six patients(40 eyes)with primary nasal pterygium were enrolled in this study, which were divided into study group and control group randomly, with 20 eyes in each group. All patients received pterygium excision and limbal stem cell autograft surgery and tobramicin dexamethasone eye drops after surgery. Patients of the study group received protein free calf blood extract eye gel while those of the control group received 0.1% sodium hyaluronate eye drops furthermore. Ocular surface disease index(OSDI)questionnaire, tear film break-up time(BUT)and Schirmer's Ⅰ test Ⅰ(SⅠt)were carried before and 3 months after surgery to evaluate the dry eye degree of the patients. RESULTS: There was no statistical difference between the age, gender and size of the pterygium of the study and control groups preoperatively. There was no statistical difference between the OSDI(2.33±1.02 vs 2.32±0.93), BUT(8.80±2.48 vs 8.35±2.28)seconds and SⅠt(4.30±2.30 vs 4.40±2.44)of the two groups preoperatively. There was statistical difference between the OSDI(1.45±0.47 vs 1.81±0.60), BUT(11.20±2.07 vs 9.50±2.40)seconds and SⅠt(8.35±3.13 vs 6.35±2.18)of the two groups 3 months postoperatively, which was also different from that of the preoperative data correspondingly. CONCLUSION: Protein free calf blood extract eye gel could reduce the dry eye after pterygium surgery.

AIM: To discuss the effects of crescent-shaped resection of redundant conjunctiva and conjunctival fixation to the sclera to treat conjunctivochalasis. METHODS: Totally 27 cases(48 eyes)suffering from conjunctivochalasis were treated by using two techniques: crescent-shaped resection of redundant conjunctiva, conjunctival fixation to the sclera. Evaluation of symptom, observation of conjunctivochalasis using slit lamp microscope, tear meniscus, tear break-up time(BUT)were measured after surgery. RESULTS: Follow-up visits were made 1 week after surgery. Improvement was indicated in 92% crescent-shaped resection, in 88% in conjunctival fixation to the sclera. One month after surgery, improvement was indicated in 92% crescent-shaped resection, in 83% in conjunctival fixation to the sclera.CONCLUSION: The two surgical techniques are effective in treating conjunctivochalasis.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of individualized therapy on dry eye induced by different reasons. METHODS: Totally 140 cases(140 eyes)of dry eye were divided into three categories according to eye symptoms. First category: 60 cases(60 eyes)with meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)were divided into A1 group(palpebralis margin treatment group)and B1 group(control group); Second category: 50 cases(50 eyes)with corneal epithelium damage(corneal fluorescence staining FL Score≥5)were divided into A2 group(bandage contact lens group)and B2 group(control group); Third category: 30 cases(30 eyes)with low Schirmer test(Schirmer Ⅰ≤5mm)were divided into A3 group(lacrimal punctum plug group)and B3 group(control group). Both former categories treated by 1g/L fluorometholone eye drops and 1g/L hyaluronate sodium eye drops, but received limbus palpebralis cleaning, oral doxycycline in A1 group and bandage contact lens in A2 group else. The third category was treated by 10g/L cyclosporine A and carbomer eye gel, but lacrimal punctum plug in A3 group before received the drug treatment. Two weeks follow up, each case was examined by subjective symptom, cornea fluorescence colouration test, tear break-up time(BUT), and Schirmer test Ⅰ(SⅠt)in the treatment groups(A1,A2,A3)and the control groups(B1,B2,B3), the results pre- and post-treatment were compared. The t test was used for inferential statistics. RESULTS: There was no statistical difference between treatment groups(A1, A2, A3)and control groups(B1, B2, B3)before treatment. Two weeks after treatment, there was statistical difference between the treatment groups(A1, A2, A3)and control groups(B1, B2, B3)in subjective symptoms and BUT. The difference among A3 group(lacrimal punctum plug group, in which the lacrimal river line formed were observed 2 weeks after treatment)and B3 (control group)was statistically significant in SⅠt. CONCLUSION:On base of anti-inflammatory and use of artificial tears, individualized therapy is an effective and satisfactory clinical curative method in the treatment of dry eye.

AIM: To study the effect of vitamin A palmitate eye gel on ocular surface reconstruction after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK), and to evaluate the efficacy and safety. METHODS: One hundred and twenty patients(240 eyes)performing LASIK were enrolled in this study. The right and left eyes were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group were treated with vitamin A palmitate eye gel for 1 month, four times a day after LASIK, and the same as control group in other treatments. The SchirmerⅠ test, break-up time(BUT)and corneal sensation were detect at preoperation and the postoperative 1st day, 1st month, 3rd month in two groups. RESULTS: There were significant difference in BUT and tear secretion quantity between the experimental group and the control group at the postoperative 1st month and 3rd month(P0.05), which revealed that vitamin A palmitate eye gel had no obvious effect on recovery of corneal sensation after LASIK. During the treatment, there was no adverse drug event occurred. CONCLUSION: Early use of vitamin A palmitate eye gel postoperatively is applicable for ocular surface reconstruction, but has no obvious effect on the regeneration of corneal sensation.

AIM:To evaluate the changes of postoperative dry eye and tear-film after femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis(femto LASIK)or sub-Bowman's keratomileusis(SBK). METHODS:Two hundred and twenty patients(440 eyes)accepted the refractive surgery from January to September 2013 in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Two hundred and fifty-two eyes in 126 patients were performed with femto-LASIK, and 188 eyes in 94 cases were performed with SBK. The changes on corneal fluorescence staining(FL), tear film break-up time(BUT), and Schirmer Ⅰ test(SⅠt)were obtained preoperatively, 1, 3 and 6mo postoperatively. RESULTS:There were significant difference between femo-LASIK and SBK on FL at 1mo postoperatively(PP>0.05). At 1wk and 1mo postoperatively, the differences on BUT between the two groups were statistically significant(PP>0.05). At 1wk,1 and 3mo postoperatively, the differences on SⅠt between the two groups were statistically significant(PP>0.05).CONCLUSION:Both patients treated by femto-LASIK or SBK have dry eye after surgeries in early stage.However, tear-film function in femto-LASIK group recovers faster than that in SBK group.
