Six near-isogenic lines of the wheat cultivar Saratovskaya 29 carrying five marker genes from different species (Triticum compactum L., T. polonicum L., T. petropavlovskyi Udacz. et Migusch., Aegilops elongatum Host. and Secale cereale L.) were studied. It was shown that the introduced marker genes of taxonomic significance, C and P, have strong pleiotropic effects on quantitative traits of the spike productivity.

The chromosomal composition of the spring triticale line 131/7 carrying a rye-wheat translocation was studied using GISH, C-banding, and SSR analysis. The complex analysis revealed the presence of a pair of 2D chromosomes and T2RS.2RL-2BL translocation in the genome of the hexaploid triticale line 131/7. The break point in the translocated chromosome is between the markers Xwmc592 and Xwmc441, loci 63.9 cM and 76.8 cM on the linkage map (Wheat, Consensus SSR, 2004 NA-SSR-2004-2B) and in the region C2BL2-0.36 on the physical map (Wheat, Physical, SSR). The analysis of the line enables its use in breeding programs and in genetic studies.

The expression of genes Sox2, Klf4, Myc, Sall4, Gata6, Foxa2, Hnf4a, Cdx2, Esrrb, Hand1 in cultivated cells, embryos and organs of adult voles Microtus rossiaemeridionalis was studied. High resemblance of the expression patterns of these genes in the organs of adult voles, mice and humans was demonstrated. It was established that genes Gata6, Foxa2 and Hnf4a were specifically expressed in vole extraembryonic endoderm cells, while Cdx2 and Handl genes, in trophoblast stem cells. This shows that these genes can be used markers for corresponding vole cell lines. Indirect confirmation pointing to the fact that Oct4 gene is a marker gene for epiblast cells both in the vole and mouse was obtained.

Genetic differentiation of six subspecies of the house mouse Mus musculus (Mus musculus musculus. M. m. domesticus, M. m. castaneus, M. m. gansuensis, M. m. wagneri, and M. m. ssp. (bactrianus?) was examined using RAPD-PCR analysis. In all, 373 loci of total length of about 530 kb were identified. Taxon-specific molecular markers were detected and the levels of genetic differences among the subspecies were estimated. Different degree of subspecific genetic differentiation was shown. The most similar subspecies pairs were M. m. castaneus--M. m. domesticus and M. m. musculus--M. m. gansuensis. In our phylogenetic reconstruction, M. m. wagnery proved to be most different from all the other subspecies. Genetic distances between it and other subspecies were two- to threefold higher than those between the "good"' species of the subgenus Mus (e.g., between M. m. musculus and M. spicilegus, M. musculus and M. abbottii). The estimates of genetic similarity and the taxonomic relationships between six house mouse subspecies inferred from RAPD partially conformed to the results based on cytogenetic and allozyme data. However, they were considerably different from phylogenetic reconstructions based on sequencing of the control mtDNA region, which reflects mutual inconsistency of different systems of inheritance.
