ObjectiveMental health has become a widely concerned topic worldwide. However, the impact and mechanism of positive activities on mental health still needed to be explored. This study aimed to apply the positive-activity model to investigate the effect of participation in positive activities on mental health and the mediating role of positive emotion.MethodsThis study used data from the 2021 China Comprehensive Social Survey (CGSS) and included 2,581 individuals. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and a three-step method was used for analysis.ResultsThe average of positive activities was 15.83. The positive activities affected positively mental health (β = 0.0132, p < 0.001). The positive emotion played a mediating role (β =0.2281, p < 0.001). The effect of positive activities on mental health was significant in older adults group (β = 0.024, p < 0.001), female (β = 0.015, p < 0.01) and male group (β = 0.01, p < 0.01), unmarried/divorced/widowed group (β = 0.024, p < 0.01), cohabitation/first marriage with spouse/remarriage with spouse/separation without divorce group (β = 0.010, p < 0.001), middle(β = 0.013, p < 0.05), and upper-middle-level SES group (β = 0.054, p < 0.001).ConclusionsWe concluded that the participation level of positive activities still needs to be improved and positive activities improve mental health through positive emotion, which implied that positive activities, as an easily implementable measure, should be greatly encouraged in mental health policies. And older adults, female, people without spouse, middle and upper-middle-income individuals need to be paid more attention.

IntroductionVisual impairment, encompassing low visual acuity and visual field loss, significantly impacts the older adult population worldwide, leading to increased disability and mortality risks. Recent studies suggest a strong association between visual impairment and anxiety, particularly among older adults. This study aims to explore the relationship between visual impairment and anxiety symptoms in older adult individuals in China, and to investigate potential mediating factors.MethodsData for this study were derived from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), including 11,702 participants aged 65 and older. Visual impairment was assessed through self-reported visual function, while anxiety symptoms were measured using the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). Additional assessments included sleep quality and duration, exercise status, and dietary diversity. BackgroundThe relationship between secondary traumatic stress (STS), empathy, and vicarious post-traumatic growth (VPTG) in oncology nurses is unclear. Understanding these links is crucial for improving nurse well-being and patient care quality.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the relationships between STS, empathy, and VPTG among oncology nurses.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in a multicentric setting. Data collection involved oncology nurses completing questionnaires assessing STS, empathy, and VPTG levels. Data analysis included correlation analyses, multiple stepwise regression analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine the interrelationships between these variables. The study adhered to the STROBE checklist.ResultsA total of 391 oncology nurses participated in the study. They showed moderate to low levels of VPTG and high levels of STS. STS exhibited a negative association with VPTG, while empathy demonstrated a positive direct association with both VPTG and STS. Moreover, SEM indicated that empathy mediated the relationship between STS and VPTG, with a partial mediating effect of 0.127. Factors such as receiving psychological training, educational attainment, STS, and empathy collectively explained 24% of the variance in VPTG.ConclusionOur findings highlighted the negative correlation between STS and VPTG among oncology nurses. Additionally, empathy was found to mediate the relationship between STS and VPTG, suggesting it plays a significant role in influencing VPTG.Implications for practiceTo aid oncology nurses, interventions should focus on reducing STS and enhancing empathy. Strategies like resilience workshops, peer support, and stress management can foster VPTG. Creating a supportive work environment is crucial for nurses’ well-being and quality patient care.

BackgroundThe number of clinical nurses in China experiencing professional burnout is increasing yearly, posing a serious challenge to the public health sector. Implementing effective intervention strategies is key to reducing the level of occupational burnout. At present, training aimed at alleviating occupational burnout among clinical nurses is very limited, with common training programs focusing on addressing external factors of occupational burnout rather than the internal cognitive issues of clinical nurses. Self-efficacy and future time perspective are both aspects of an individual’s internal self-cognition. Meanwhile, the relationship between clinical nurses’ self-efficacy, future time perspective, and occupational burnout is not clear, and further research is needed to verify this.ObjectiveThis study aims to reveal the relationship between clinical nurses’ self-efficacy, future time perspective, and occupational burnout, and to explore the mediating role of future time perspective between self-efficacy and occupational burnout among clinical nurses, providing a scientific reference for training directions to improve occupational burnout.MethodsThis study used a cross-sectional design, conducting a questionnaire survey with 529 practicing clinical nurses using the General Demographics Questionnaire (GDQ), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS). BackgroundHealthy aging is crucial to the quality of life of older adults, of which mental health is an essential part. Physical exercise strongly affects their mental health and can alleviate psychological problems to a certain extent. Nevertheless, the correlation between physical exercise and the mental health of older adults individuals, as well as the underlying mechanism by which physical exercise impacts mental health, remains rather ambiguous.MethodsWe utilized multiple linear regression models to investigate the relationship between physical activity and mental health in 3,240 persons aged 60 and up. The propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to assess the robustness of the regression results. In addition, sequential recursive models were employed to investigate the mediating role of social competence in the link between physical activity and mental health.Results and discussionWe discovered a strong favorable association between physical exercise and mental health, which was mediated by social competence. Furthermore, the effect of physical exercise on mental health differed across older persons from various socioeconomic backgrounds.ConclusionOlder adults should strengthen their understanding of the role of physical exercise. Sports organizations that serve older adults by providing resources and services to help them maintain physical fitness and by hosting sports activities and competitions according to their needs should be established.

IntroductionThe study aims to examine the mediating role of anxiety in the relationship between social participation and Subjective Wellbeing among Chinese older adults. Additionally, it investigates the moderating ed of education in this relationship.MethodsThe data came from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) published by peking University, with a sample size of 10,626 individuals aged 60 years and above. SPSS 21.0 was used for the statistical analysis of the data, and Mplus 8.0 was used for the statistical processing of the mediating and moderating effects analysis.Results(1) The social participation significantly and positively predicated Subjective Wellbeing; (2) Anxiety partially mediated the eect between social participation and Subjective Wellbeing. The mediating eect value was 0.103; (3) Education plays a moderating role in the impact of social participation on subjective Wellbeing.DiscussionIn summary, social participation can reduce the anxiety and enhance their Subjective Wellbeing. Meanwhile, the eet of social participation on Subjective Wellbeing was the greatest for the older adult with high education. The findings suggest that community-led activities can be initiated to improve social participation in the older adult. Furthermore, educational courses could be to support the healthy aging of older adults in China.

BackgroundIndividuals with Internet addiction (IA) are at significant risk of suicide-related behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the relationships among IA, psychotic-like experiences (PLEs), and suicidal ideation (SI) among college students.MethodsA total of 5,366 college students (34.4% male, mean age 20.02 years) were assessed using the self-compiled sociodemographic questionnaires, Revised Chinese Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS-R), 15-item Positive subscale of the Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences (CAPE-P15), Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale (SIOSS), and 2-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2).ResultsThe prevalence of IA and SI were 9.3 and 12.1% among Chinese college students, respectively. ObjectiveTo understand the working mechanism and the relationships among the quality of teacher-child interaction (TCI), children's comprehensible vocabulary (CV) and executive function (EF).MethodsUsing stratified sampling, 900 children (boys 50.2%) and 60 preschool teachers were recruited from 4 places in China for testing, and five measurement tools, including the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT-R), the Stroop test, a card sorting task, and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV), were used.ResultsFor every additional unit of TCI, EF increases by 0.55 units; For every additional unit of EF, CV increases by 0.55 units; For every additional unit of CV, EF increases by 0.55 units; For every additional unit of CV, TCI increases by 0.38 units; For every additional unit of TCI, CV increases by 0.38 units. In the Model of TCI-EF-CV, the estimated value of TCI and the total effect of comprehensible vocabulary is 0.18; Z = 9.84, which is significantly greater than 1.96 at the bias-corrected 95% confidence interval and at the percentile 95% confidence interval (0.15, 0.23), both of which do not contain 0. The direct effect of TCI and CV is significant and indirect effects account for 39%. In the Model of TCI-CV-EF, the total effect of TCI on executive function is 0.09 (Z = 6.14), the direct effect is not significant with bias-corrected 95% confidence interval and 95% confidence interval (−0.01, 0.03), both of which include 0.ConclusionThere are two-way effects among children's EF and CV, TCI and CV. EF plays a mediating role in the influence of TCI on CV. TCI positively predicts children's EF, but this mainly depends on CV. Therefore, TCI plays a positive role in the development of children's CV and EF.

Green credit plays an important role in environmental protection and residents' health. This paper discusses the impact path of green credit on social health costs with the help of a quantile regression. The implementation of a green credit policy can decrease social health costs in China, and green credit works best in the economically developed Eastern region. As the quantile increases, so gradually does the absolute value of the green credit coefficient. This result proves that for provinces with rich per capita financial health expenditures, green credit plays a greater role in decreasing social costs, a conclusion also supported by our robustness test. In addition, we find that environmental pollution plays a mediating role in the path of green credit affecting health, and this finding is verified in the green credit and health general equilibrium model. Based on these findings, the government should encourage the active innovation of green credit products, and the banking industry should develop personalized green credit products for specific pollutant types or industries while decreasing government pressure.

Employee wellbeing is a crucial determinant in overall organizational performance. However, in the construction Industry, it is damaged by hazardous and stressful work environment. This study aims to explore how ethical leadership influences and thus could enhance employee wellbeing through perceived organizational support (POS). We proposed several hypotheses and developed the research framework accordingly. To test the hypotheses, an elaborately designed survey was used to collect quantitative data from 194 employees in the construction companies in China. Our results show that ethical leadership is positively related to the employee wellbeing. This study further reveals a remarkable indirect effect of ethical leadership on employee wellbeing via the mediating POS. Consequently, our findings suggest that, to enhance employee wellbeing, ethical leaders can develop a relaxing ethical environment and provide sufficient organizational support to the employees.

The construction industry in China is characterized by higher safety risk, and construction workers' unsafe behaviors are one of the main causes of construction safety accidents, thus, designing scientific mechanisms that motivate and cultivate the construction workers to adopt safety behaviors becomes the key to the construction safety problem. Existing studies have examined some of the factors leading to workers' safety behavior (WSB) at the social, organizational, and individual levels, but ignore investigating the impact of co-workers' guanxi (CWG) on WSB. Thus, this research utilized exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling to examine the impact of CWG on WSB, and the mediating role of group identification (GI) in the relationship between CWG and WSB. Results show that CWG can directly or indirectly influence WSB, GI can exert a partial mediating effect on the relationship between CWG and GI. The research results enrich the research on c guanxi and causation of WSB, and provide a reference for project managers to carry out relationship-related safety management and industry regulations.

Smartphone applications play an essential role in providing several benefits to consumers by offering various capabilities in terms of health and fitness.COVID-19 preventive measures shut down public places, and people cannot go to the gym and parks for physical activity. Smart applications for physical activity are an effective way to keep active while staying at home.ObjectiveThe objective of the present study was to assess the mediating role of the e-platforms physical activity among the Chinese people in China during the COVID-19 lockdown.MethodThe participants in this study were Chinese citizens living in home isolation during the early stages of the epidemic in China. The primary data was collected via an online survey using a convenience sample strategy in accordance with the study purpose. The collected data were cleaned by using the SPSS-25 statistical software. Through an online survey of a working population sample (N = 530), this study examines the role of social comparison between social media use and job burnout. The results show that: (1) there is a significant positive correlation between social media use and job burnout; (2) social comparison plays a moderating role in social media's impact on burnout. In high social comparative groups, the moderating role develops into an mediating role, which means that job burnout is only significant when social media addiction and the inclination of social comparison are simultaneously strong; (3) Social media users who often make downward comparison and get positive emotions from it are more prone to job burnout. This study reveals the possible negative effects of overuse of new media and enriches the understanding of how social media shapes individuals' psychology and behavior. Studies have also shown that regulating and controlling social comparisons and avoiding excessive use of social media may be effective in reducing job burnout.
