The article discusses the status of French and Francophone studies in the U.S., particularly commenting on the crisis of the humanities in American higher education. It addresses the challenges created by the popular social perception of French studies, presents methods to increase enrollment in French studies programs without increasing cost, and defends the study of French language and culture in the U.S. curriculum.
