A recent study from Peking University explores the combination of home-grown school feeding (HGSF) and short food supply chain (SFSC) in south central China. The study finds that direct purchase from smallholder farmers through HGSF-SFSC is linked to higher income, production, and dietary diversity. However, the study also identifies constraints of the current HGSF-SFSC model. The research provides insights into the design, implementation, benefits, and limitations of this model, and discusses policy implications for sustaining and scaling up the pilot program.
