Abstract

Studies that seek to identify potential techniques for obtaining diameter values at 1.30 m from the ground from tree height data are necessary, especially when considering the use of airborne Lidar in forest inventory activity. In this sense, this work aimed to evaluate two artificial intelligence tools for this purpose, namely the neurofuzzy inference systems and the artificial neural networks. Four models were tested to obtain estimates for the diameter variable, which were prepared by combining the independent variables useful area per plant, age and height. After processing, the statistics of bias, square root of the mean squared error in percentage, correlation and mean percentage error were calculated, in addition to the preparation of scatter plots and histogram of residues. It was observed that, for the estimation of the diameter in both techniques, the use of the model with all independent variables obtained the best values for the analysis statistics. It can be concluded that both tools can be used to estimate the diameter, with the neuro-fuzzy inference system being more suitable for its processing speed and small variability between the values obtained in different training sessions for the same database. Abstract

This work, prepared for the special issue of Journal Floresta, aimed to bring together the most significant contributions made by professors and collaborators in the area of Forest Management in the undergraduate and graduate courses in Forestry at the UFPR during the last 50 years. For its elaboration, it was decided by the sectorization of its content in themes, whose sequence included the evolution in the fields of forest mensuration, forest inventory, geotechnologies, statistics, planning and optimization of forest production, biomass and carbon in forests and their products, forest management, and their prospects. The reports clearly showed that during this period there were major evolutions and improvements in the training of forest engineers, as well as masters and doctors in this field of knowledge. The research was developed during this period, not only in the theoretical domain, but also in the technological and operational ground, due to the group's strong interaction with the productive forest sector and with the public institutions of the state of Paraná and the federal government. The training of masters and doctors was expressive, with the highest productivity in the Graduate Program in Forest Engineering at UFPR. In all the topics covered were presented the new directions for the evolution of scientific and technological knowledge in the field of Forest Management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the diametric distribution of an Atlantic Forest fragment at Reserva Biológica Sítio Palmares, state of Espírito Santo. In 2,400 m² all trees and palms with DBH over 5 cm were measured. It identified 1364 individuals distributed into 70 species and 33 families. The community population had a DBH average of 14.82 cm and a basal area of 41.12 m².ha-1. For the total population, the DBH distribution into 5 cm intervals formed 13 classes. The adjusted Meyer's equation reveals for this population a tendency to a J-inverse curve. The first three diameter classes from 5 to 20 cm concentrated 79% of the total population. Eight species had a population density with more than 40 trees per hectare. These trees were concentrated until the 40 cm distribution classes. The statistical analysis of the distributions curves reveals that these populations were distributed between the normal, j-inverse and bi-modal curves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar a distribuicao diametrica de um fragmento de Floresta Atlântica localizado na Reserva Biologica Sitio Palmares, Espirito Santo. Em 2.400 m 2 , foram medidas todas as arvores e palmeiras com DAP igual ou superior a 5 cm. Foram encontrados 1.364 individuos extrapolados para hectare, distribuidos em 70 especies e 33 familias. O total da populacao observada apresentou um DAP medio de 14,82 cm e area basal de 41,12 m 2 .ha -1 . Para o total da populacao observada, foram formadas 13 classes diametricas, com intervalo de5 cm entre as classes. O ajuste da equacao de Meyer mostrou para essa populacao a tendencia da curva do J-invertido. As tres primeiras classes diametricas, de5 a20 cm, concentraram 79% da densidade populacional. Oito especies apresentaram uma densidade populacional com mais de 40 individuos por hectare. Esses individuos ficaram concentrados ate a classe diametrica de 40 cm. A analise estatistica mostrou que as curvas de tendencias da distribuicao diametrica dessas especies ficaram distribuidas entre a normal, a exponencial negativa e a bimodal. Abstract

This work analyzed the diameter distribution of one site of Atlantic Forest in natural succession, located at the Sitio Palmares Biological Reserve - state of Espirito Santo. In 2,400 m² all the trees with BDH equal or plus 5 cm were measured. The results reveal 195 trees distributed among 17 species and 15 families. The total population presented a mean BDH of 12.40 cm and a basal area of 2.86 m², corresponding to 11.90 m².ha -1 . Seven 5 cm interval diameter classes were constituted. The Normal model adjustment for the diameter distribution revealed for the total population an unimodal left-skewed tendency. The first two diameter classes, from 5 to 15 cm, accumulated 142 trees, concentrating 72.8% of the population density. Five species presented a population density of more than 10 woody individuals. The species Vismia guianensis (Aubl.) Seem. presented trees only in the first diameter class. Cecropia catarinensis Cautrec., Miconia cinnamomifolia (DC.) Naudin and Miconia multiflora Cong. presented unimodal and Piptocarpha macropoda (DC.) Baker presented inverse J diameter distribution curve. Accordingly to the successional stage of the studied fragment, after 30 years in preserved area, according the number of species and their diametric structure, the plant community is actually in the intermediate growth development, fairly distant to the climax stage. Resumo Caracteristicas dendrometricas de um fragmento de Mata Atlântica no Municipio de Santa Maria de Jetiba, Estado do Espirito Santo, Brasil. Este trabalho analisou a distribuicao diametrica de uma area em regeneracao natural da Mata Atlântica localizado na Reserva Biologica Sitio Palmares, ES. Em 2.400 m 2 , foram medidas todas as arvores com DAP igual ou superior a 5 cm. Foram encontradas 195 arvores, distribuidas em 17 especies e 15 familias. O total da comunidade observada apresentou um DAP medio de 12,40 cm e area basal de 2,86 m 2 , correspondendo a 11,90 m 2 .ha -1 . Os individuos arboreos ficaram distribuidos em sete classes diametricas de 5 cm de intervalo. O ajuste da funcao normal mostrou, para o total da populacao, distribuicao diametrica unimodal com assimetria a esquerda. As duas primeiras classes diametricas, de 5 a 15 cm, acumularam 142 arvores, concentrando 72,8% da densidade populacional. Cinco especies apresentaram uma densidade populacional com mais de 10 individuos arboreos. A especie Vismia guianensis (Aubl.) Seem. apresentou arvores somente na primeira classe diametrica. Cecropia catarinenses Cautrec . , Miconia cinnamomifolia (DC.) Naudin e Miconia multiflora Cong. apresentaram curvas de distribuicao diametrica unimodais e Piptocarpha macropoda (DC.) Baker curva de distribuicao diametrica J-invertido. O estagio sucessional do fragmento estudado, com mais de tres decadas de crescimento em area preservada, encontra-se, pelo numero de especies e estrutura diametrica observadas, em fase intermediaria de desenvolvimento, ainda longe do estado climax.
