Abstract

The form of the interface of polymer melts in bilaminar streams during flow in spinneret channels has been studied on a batch laboratory industrial set-up. Numerical calculations of the coordinates of the interface in bilaminar streams have been carried out using the previously proposed mathematical model. The results of experimental studies agree well with theoretical calculations, which indicates the adequacy of the theoretical model for a real process.

Abstract

Depending on shear stress in the spinneret and the temperature-speed conditions in spinning, it is possible to prepare fibres of the “core-shell” type having various ratios of the viscosities of the components in them (an important rheological characteristic of a polymer optical fibre).
