The experiment was to investigate the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) inoculation under mixed saline alkali on the root configuration of alfalfa. In the experiment, Rhizophagus intraradices in AMF were inoculated with Medicago sativa variety WL168HQ, so that the two formed a plant-mycorrhizal joint repair system. Based on different salinity-alkali gradients, greenhouse potting experiments were carried out to study alfalfa root configurations with and without AMF inoculation under these conditions. The results showed that the total root length, bifurcation number, root tip number, surface area and volume of alfalfa after AMF inoculation were increased compared with the control group under the saline-free alkali (CK) treatment, and the total root length and bifurcation number were significantly different, while the average root diameter of alfalfa unvaccinated with AMF increased by 44.53% compared with the inoculation treatment. Salt stress, AMF and salt stress had significant effects on all root indexes of alfalfa, and the effect of salt stress on the average diameter, number of bifurcations, surface area and volume of alfalfa roots were more significant after inoculation with AMF under mixed saline conditions than on alkali stress. The experiment indicates that AMF vaccination is beneficial to the growth of alfalfa roots, helps alfalfa resist and adapt to salinity stress, thereby improving alfalfa quality and improving and treating land with mild saline.
