FET is to resuscitate the endometrium and transfer the embryo into the uterus after the endometrium is ready. The quality of transferred embryos is an important factor affecting the outcome of assisted reproductive technology. This paper aims to explore the feasibility of D4 frozen-thaw embryo transfer and analysis of related factors affecting the outcome of freeze-thaw embryo transfer. A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 2925 patients who received frozen-thaw embryo transfer (FET) in the Department of Reproductive Medicine, General Hospital of Northern Theater Command from January 1, 2017 to July 31, 2019. Including the woman's age, body mass index (BMI), endometrial thickness on the day of transplantation, number of embryos to be transferred, and type of embryos to be transferred. A single factor, multivariate logistic regression and nomogram were used to analyze the influence of different factors on the clinical outcome of FET. Nanomedicines and related nanomedicines are rapidly developing and establishing their importance in embryo transfer. This paper uses nanomaterials to explore the feasibility of D4 frozen-thawed embryo transfer. The woman's age, endometrial thickness on the day of transplantation, BMI, the number of embryos transferred, and the type of embryos transferred all affect the outcome of FET. The pregnancy rate of the D5 and D4 transplantation groups was, respectively, higher than that of the D3 transplantation group, with statistically significant differences. In the FET cycle, the age of the woman, endometrial thickness on the day of transplantation, the number of embryos transferred, and the type of embryos transferred are all independent factors influencing the outcome of FET. D5 blastocyst is the easiest to get pregnant, and that has the best clinical outcome which is better than the D6 blastocyst group; D4 morula and D5 blastocyst FET have little difference in clinical pregnancy outcomes, but both of them are significantly better than D3 cell embryos, so D4 morula can be considered for transplantation in the FET cycle. In conclusion, whether it is a patient who has failed the fresh cycle transplantation or the whole embryo freezing cycle whose transplantation is canceled due to high hormone levels on the transplantation day, FET is required. Background. The incidence of diabetes is increasing year by year. For elderly diabetic patients, poor blood glucose control and worsening immune function greatly increase the risk of complications, which will seriously affect their quality of life. Purpose. This paper primarily clarifies the influence of information-based continuous care on disease control and treatment compliance of elderly diabetic patients. Methods. From December 2018 to December 2021, 106 elderly diabetic patients were selected, and their clinical data were retrospectively studied. Patients were grouped according to the type of care they received: an observation group (OG) comprising 56 cases receiving information-based continuous care and a control group (CG) including 50 cases treated with routine nursing. The two cohorts of patients were compared regarding disease control, treatment compliance, glucose and lipid metabolism (GLM), and self-management. Results. After analysis, it was found that the disease control and treatment compliance were statistically higher in OG compared with CG. OG also showed significantly reduced fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (2hPG), total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) after nursing that were all lower compared with CG. In terms of self-management, OG outperformed CG in diet, exercise, blood glucose monitoring, and adherence to medical regimens. Conclusions. Information-based continuous care has beneficial effects on disease control and treatment compliance of elderly diabetic patients and can help control blood sugar and optimize patients' self-management level, with high clinical promotion value. Background. Negative regional lymph nodes do not indicate a lack of distant metastasis. A considerable number of patients with negative regional lymph node pancreatic cancer will skip the step of regional lymph node metastasis and directly develop distant metastasis. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with negative regional lymph node pancreatic cancer and distant metastasis in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 2010 to 2015. Multivariate logistic analysis and Cox analysis were used to determine the independent risk factors that promoted distant metastasis and the 1-, 2-, and 3-year cancer-specific survival in this subgroup. Results. Sex, age, pathological grade, surgery, radiotherapy, race, tumor location, and tumor size were significantly correlated with distant metastasis (P < 0.05). Among these factors, pathological grade II and above, tumor site other than the pancreatic head, and tumor size >40 mm were independent risk factors for distant metastasis; age ≥60 years, tumor size ≤21 mm, surgery, and radiation were protective factors against distant metastasis. Age, pathological grade, surgery, chemotherapy, and metastasis site were identified as predictors of survival. Among them, age ≥40 years, pathological grade II and above, and multiple distant metastasis were considered independent risk factors for cancer-specific survival. Surgery and chemotherapy were considered protective factors for cancer-specific survival. The prediction performance of the nomogram was significantly better than that of the traditional American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor, node, metastasis staging system. We also established an online dynamic nomogram calculator, which can predict the survival rate of patients at different follow-up time points. Conclusion. Pathological grade, tumor location, and tumor size were independent risk factors for distant metastasis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with negative regional lymph nodes. Older age, smaller tumor size, surgery, and radiotherapy were protective factors against distant metastasis. A new nomogram that was constructed could effectively predict cancer-specific survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with negative regional lymph nodes and distant metastasis. Background. An important feature of aging cells is the gradual loss of physiological integrity. As aging progresses, MSCs change preferring to differentiate toward adipocytes rather than osteoblasts. Oxidative stress accumulation is an important factor in age-related bone loss. Many experiments have demonstrated the good therapeutic effect of Ginsenoside (Rg1) on oxidative stress injury. In this study, we investigated the effect of Rg1 on the osteogenic-adipogenic differentiation balance of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSC). Objective. To analyze the potential application value of Rg1 in the treatment of senile osteoporosis. Methods. BMMSCs were isolated from healthy donors of different ages and identified based on isotype and by multi-differentiation induction. Rg1 was used to treat BMMSCs, The differentiation propensity was analyzed by induction of differentiation assay. Antioxidant capacity of BMMSCs as measured by oxidative stress product assay Related mechanism studies were confirmed by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR), immunofluorescence, western blotting, and inhibitor treatment. Rg1 treatment rescued age‐induced switch of BMMSCs differentiation fate in vitro. In elderly people, Rg1 markedly increased osteogenic differentiation of BMMSCs by decreasing oxidative stress, while inhibiting adipogenic differentiation. However, this effect was abolished in BMMSCs by an Nrf2-inhibitor. Notably, aging mice showed a reduction in adipocyte distribution in the bone marrow and a decrease in oxidative stress products after a 3-month period of Rg1 treatment. Conclusion. We have uncovered a novel function for Rg1 that involves attenuating bone loss via Nrf2 antioxidant signaling, which in turn may potentially be utilized as a therapeutic agent for improving osteogenic differentiation in aging BMMSCs. This study aimed to investigate the associations between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes and driver gene mutations as well as the clinical characteristics of patients with lung adenocarcinoma. We performed a cross-sectional study in patients with lung adenocarcinoma between June 2020 and October 2021. The patient characteristics, such as age, sex, smoking history, clinical stage, metastasis, driver gene mutations, and the type of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome/element, were collected. The associations between each TCM syndrome and sex, smoking history, clinical stage, metastasis, and driver gene mutations were analyzed. The present study included 127 patients. The most frequent TCM syndromes were Qi and Yin deficiency (39, 30.7%) and lung-spleen Qi deficiency (32, 25.2%). Eighty-one (63.8%) patients had mutations in driver genes, especially in the EGFR gene (64, 79.0%). There was a statistically significant association between a driver gene mutation and TCM syndrome (P < 0.05). Genetic mutations presented more frequently in patients with Qi and Yin deficiency (37.0%), lung-spleen Qi deficiency (30.0%), or the cold element (59.3%). Male patients were more likely to have Qi stagnation and blood stasis, whereas female patients were more likely to have lung-spleen Qi deficiency or Qi and Yin deficiency. The patients with lung-spleen Qi deficiency were usually younger than those with Qi and Yin deficiency or Qi stagnation and blood stasis (P < 0.05). Compared with the patients with other TCM syndromes, the patients with Yin and Yang deficiency were more likely to have bone metastasis. Background. Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors with poor prognosis. So far, other than the HER2, GC lacks effective therapeutic targets. Transferrin receptor 1 (TFR1) expressions are abnormally upregulated in various cancers for the satisfaction of iron demand increased. This study aimed to explore the expression and clinical value of TFR1 in GC. Methods. A tissue microarray including GC tissues and matched noncancerous tissues from 155 GC patients were collected. Moreover, the level of TFR1 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry, and we also evaluated the relationship between TFR1 expression and the clinicopathologic characteristics. What is more, univariate analysis and multivariate analysis were used to evaluate the risk factors and independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of GC. Results. We found that TFR1 was overexpressed in GC tissues compared with noncancerous tissues, and a significant relationship was found between TFR1 expression and age (P = 0.001), Lauren type (P = 0.008), T stage (P = 0.003), HER2 (P = 0.003), PD-L1 (P < 0.001), and the level of CA72-4 (P = 0.028). Survival analysis confirmed that GC patients with positive TFR1 expression had a poorer OS than that with negative TFR1 expression, and TFR1 expression was an independent risk factor in GC. Furthermore, we also found that there was a significant difference between the TFR1-PD-L1− group and the TFR1+PD-L1+ group (P = 0.023), while there was no significant difference between the TFR1-PD-L1− group and the TFR1+PD-L1− group (P = 0.119), or between the TFR1-PD-L1− group and the TFR1-PD-L1+ group (P = 0.396). Conclusions. TFR1 was overexpressed in GC and its aberrant expression identifies a novel potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target. Objective. Our aim was to investigate the effect of age on the outcome of IVF-ET and ICSI in infertile PCOS patients under the guidance of Tiangui theory in traditional Chinese medicine. Method. This was a retrospective analysis of 532 infertile women with PCOS and 1,392 women with infertility due to tubal factors as the controls. All of the participants were divided into different age groups-aged 20–28 years, 29–35 years, and ≥36 years-according to the stages of female reproductive development in Tiangui theory as described in the Canon of Internal Medicine-Treatise of Ancient Natural Truth. We explored the effect of age on controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (including the initial dosage and duration of Gn and the estradiol level on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin administration); the numbers of retrieved oocytes, 2PN zygotes, and embryos; and the rates of fertilization, clinical pregnancy, abortion, live birth, and OHSS incidence. Results. Compared to controls, the maximum follicular diameter and the numbers of follicles with d ≥ 20 mm, retrieved oocytes, and 2PN zygotes were greater in the PCOS group with age >28 years (p < 0.05). The abortion rate of PCOS patients with age ≤28 years was higher than that of the controls. All PCOS groups and the control group showed reduced numbers of retrieved oocytes and live births with age. The difference in age was not significant in the PCOS groups but was significant in the control group (p < 0.05), and the trend in the PCOS groups was more gradual. Conclusion. The fertility of all subjects decreased with age, but PCOS patients decreased more slowly than in controls at the same age, which verified the applicability of the guiding principles of Tiangui theory in the clinic. Background. Herbal medicine is widely used for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD) in East Asian countries. We aimed to analyze the prescription patterns of herbal medicine for patients with FD in Korean medicine clinical settings through the analysis of national health insurance claims data over the past 10 years and to check how herbal medicine has been used for FD within the scope of national health insurance. Methods. All prescription data claimed to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service with the diagnosis of FD and herbal medicine prescriptions in 2010–2019 were reviewed. We estimated the demographics, clinical characteristics, and annual prescription amount and cost of each herbal medicine. Frequent comorbidities of FD were investigated by analyzing the frequency of the Korean standard classification of diseases codes used together with FD. Results. In total, 19,388,248 herbal medicine prescriptions were identified. Herbal medicine prescriptions were mostly claimed by women, the elderly, outpatients at Korean medicine clinics, and national health insurance; the number increased every year. The most frequently prescribed herbal medicine was Pingwei-san (Pyeongwi-san) (31.12%), followed by Xiangshapingwei-san (Hyangsapyeongwi-san) (23.20%), Qiongxia-tang (Gungha-tang) (6.31%), and Banxiaxiexin-tang (Banhasasim-tang) (6.25%). The total cost of herbal medicine prescriptions increased every year, and it was highest for Xiangshapingwei-san (Hyangsapyeongwi-san) (19.37%), followed by Banxiaxiexin-tang (Banhasasim-tang) (17.50%) and then Pingwei-san (Pyeongwi-san) (15.63%). Musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases including low back pain and myalgia were the commonest comorbidities associated with FD. Conclusion. This is the first study to investigate the disease burden and actual prescription pattern of herbal medicine for FD using claim data. Objective. To evaluate the efficacy of dual-antiplatelet treatment (DAPT) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) at high altitude by using thrombelastogram (TEG) and to analyze the related biochemical factors affecting drug reactivity. Methods. Totally 118 CHD patients who admitted to the Qinghai People's Hospital from September 2019 to September 2020 were enrolled in the group. Those people have lived in Qinghai for a long time. Seven days after DAPT, venous blood was collected on an empty stomach in the early morning of the next day; blood routine, coagulation function, and biochemical items were tested. Thrombelastogram (TEG) was used to draw curves to calculate platelet, coagulation and fibrinolysis functions, and drug inhibition rate. Patients were divided into the aspirin resistance (AR) group, clopidogrel resistance (CR) group, dual-antiplatelet drug resistance (DAR) group, and drug-sensitive group according to different inhibition rates. The drug efficacy was analyzed, and the clinical data, biochemical indexes, and TEG parameters of each group were compared to identify the risk factors of drug resistance. Results. Those 118 CHD patients at high altitude were incorporated into the study, ranging from 38 to 84 years of age, including 81 males (68.64%) and 37 females (31.36%). The platelet function and coagulation-fibrinolysis function were detected by TEG, and MATHROMBI, MAADP, and MAAA were higher than the reference range. There were 82 cases (69.49%) of drug resistance, 36 cases (32.53%) of drug sensitivity, 17 cases (14.41%) of AR alone, and 16 cases (12.71%) of CR alone. There was no significant difference in age, gender, BMI, oxygen saturation, TG, GFR, and history of diabetes and hypertension between ACS and CCS groups (P > 0.05). PLT and FIB in the ACS group were higher than those in the CCS group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). In addition, MATHROMBIN, MAFIBRIN, E, A, A30, and coagulation composite index were also higher than those in the CCS group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis suggested that age, HbA1c, FBG, and diabetes were the main factors of drug resistance. Conclusion. Antiplatelet drugs aspirin and clopidogrel resistance are associated with increased age, elevated HbA1c and FBG, and diabetes. Objectives. To study the effect of self-management intervention programs based on the health belief model and planned behavior theory on self-management behavior and quality of life in middle-aged stroke patients. Most of the intervention studies on the self-management of middle-aged stroke patients focus on traditional Chinese medicine nursing and continuous nursing, lacking theoretical support. In particular, there is a lack of interventions based on the integration of two or more theories. Method. The middle-aged stroke patients were divided into the control group and the intervention group according to the disease area. A total of 70 patients were included, and 35 patients were included in the control group and the intervention group, respectively. The control group received routine neurological treatment and health education during hospitalization and continued to receive routine health education for 3 months after discharge. On this basis, the intervention group received an intervention program based on an integrated model of health beliefs and planned behavior theory, including 3 health education sessions during hospitalization and 3 months of postdischarge health education. A self-administered stroke general information questionnaire was used to collect basic information on patients' age, gender, and comorbidities. The Stroke Self-Management Behavior Rating Scale and Stroke-Specific Quality-of-Life Scale (SS-QOL) were used to evaluate the management behavior and quality of life of the patients in both groups before and after the intervention. Results. Before the intervention, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of self-management score, quality of life total score, and scores of each dimension P > 0.05 . At different periods after the intervention, the total score of self-management, total score of quality of life, and scores of each dimension were significantly higher in both groups than before the intervention P < 0.05 . In particular, the self-management and quality of life scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group at 1 and 3 months after the intervention P < 0.05 . Conclusion. The self-management intervention scheme based on the integrated model of health belief and planned behavior theory is beneficial to improve the self-management ability and quality of life of stroke patients. It provides basis for clinical nurses to further improve the self-management ability and quality of life of stroke patients. Chronic gastrointestinal symptoms (CGS) negatively affect the quality of life in about 15–30% of the population without effective drugs. Recent studies suggest that dietary supplement may improve CGS, but inconsistent results exist. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effect of a polyherbal-based supplement ColonVita on the gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) in 100 old adults with CGS (63.1 ± 9.6 years) who were randomly assigned to daily ColonVita or placebo tablets (n = 50/group) for 12 weeks in a double-blind, randomized controlled trial design. No significant fibrdifferences were found between ColonVita and placebo in the baseline total GIQLI score (101.12 ± 16.87 vs. 101.80 ± 16.48) (P > 0.05) or postintervention total GIQLI score (114.78 ± 9.62 vs. 111.74 ± 13.01) (P > 0.05). However, ColonVita significantly improved 16 scores of the 19 core GI symptoms compared with 10 items improved by placebo. The ColonVita group significantly improved the remission rate of 5 core GI symptoms compared to placebo and significantly improved the total GIQLI scores (118.09 ± 7.88 vs. 109.50 ± 16.71) (P < 0.05) and core GI symptom scores (64.61 ± 3.99 vs. 60.00 ± 8.65) (P < 0.05) in people ≥60 years of age (n = 49) but not in those under 60 y (n = 51). ColonVita significantly improved the total GIQLI scores and core GI symptom scores in people without cardiovascular diseases (CVD) (n = 56) (116.74 ± 9.38 vs. 110.10 ± 14.28) (P < 0.05) and (63.11 ± 4.53 vs. 59.93 ± 8.03) (P = 0.07), respectively, but not in those with CVD (n = 44). Thus, ColonVita was beneficial for old adults with CGS, especially those ≥60 years of age and without CVD. Because a heterogenous pathogenesis of CGS-like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (ISD) is differentially associated with CVD, different comorbidities may have influenced the outcomes of different trials that should be controlled in further studies. Osteoporotic fractures are a common type of fractures in the elderly, among which spinal compression fractures are more common. After the occurrence of fractures, due to the compression and burst of the vertebral body, this will lead to local kyphosis deformity and even affect the balance of the sagittal spine. In the past, conservative treatments were used for osteoporotic spinal compression fractures. Although it can relieve pain symptoms, it can easily lead to complications such as aggravation of osteoporosis and deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities. At present, percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) are the main clinical surgical treatments, both of which are minimally invasive surgery, short operation time, effective pain relief, and rapid postoperative recovery. Although both of them are effective, there is still controversy over the efficacy of both in the treatment of osteoporotic spinal compression fractures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of PVP and PKP in the treatment of elderly osteoporotic spinal compression fractures and to analyze the related factors that affect the occurrence of postoperative complications. The results show that both PVP and PKP can effectively improve the pain and dysfunction of elderly patients with osteoporotic spinal compression fracture, restoration of vertebral height, and correct kyphosis, but PKP has better effect and higher safety and is worth promoting. Background. Presbyopia is a primary cause of a decline in near vision. In this study, we developed a new mixed herbal medicine to retard presbyopic progression and increase the amplitude of accommodation (AA), which is beneficial for near vision. Methods. A total of 400 participants between the ages of 45 and 70 years were recruited. We designed the mixed herbal drug to include Cassiae Semen (200 mg), wolfberry (200 mg), and Dendrobium huoshanense (DD) (40 mg) in one capsule. In experiment 1, the recruited subjects were directed to perform a push-up test to measure their AA; this was then converted to the additional diopters of reading glasses. In experiment 2, 240 subjects took three capsules daily for six months and then stopped medical therapy for a six-month follow-up. In experiment 3, 160 subjects were randomly categorized into four groups: a placebo group, low-dose group (LDG) (1 capsule daily), middle-dose group (MDG) (two capsules daily), and high-dose group (HDG) (three capsules daily). The 160 volunteers took different doses for six months and then stopped treatment, accompanied by another six-month follow-up. In experiments 2 and 3, the change in AA, uncorrected far visual acuity (UFVA), and uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) were recorded each month for one year. Results. In experiment 1, AA was found to decrease with age and a great deal of additional power was needed in older individuals. In experiment 2, the mean AA reached a maximum value of 2.1D (P < 0.05) after six months, while the UNVA improved by about two to three lines of a Jaeger chart in most of the subjects. At nine months, all the means decreased slightly to 2.0 D (P < 0.05). This meant that the mixed herbal medicine could still maintain AA for another three months because the herbal therapy was stopped at the seventh month. In experiment 3, the maximal AA was 2.8D, 2.9D, and 3.2D (P < 0.05) in the LDG, MDG, and HDG after six-month treatments, respectively. Experiment 3 showed that AA gain occurred in a dose-dependent manner; the higher the dose, the greater the AA value. Conclusion. Only two studies on the use of herbal drugs for presbyopia have been reported in PubMed. In our study, we found that taking a mixed herbal drug caused an excellent gain in AA. This retrospective cohort study was conducted to explore the effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy on the long-term trends in CD4+ T-cell count among patients with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) who were treated with combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) over a 14-year period. A total of 721 individuals were treated with cART alone (cART group), and 307 individuals were treated with both cART and TCM (TCM + cART group). Among all enrolled patients with HIV/AIDS, 99.5% were farmers, 71.1% had more than 6 years of education, and 96.8% were infected with HIV via a paid blood donation. For those patients with HIV/AIDS who had a baseline CD4+ T-cell count of <350 cells/mL, the CD4+ T-cell count tended to increase to approximately 350 cells/mL more rapidly in the TCM + cART group than in the cART group, but when the baseline CD4+ T-cell count was ≥350 cells/mL, there was no difference between the cART and TCM + cART groups. For other patients with HIV/AIDS who had a baseline CD4+ T-cell count of 350–500 cells/mL, the CD4+ T-cell counts tended to increase slightly, but there was no difference between the two groups. For patients with HIV/AIDS who had a baseline CD4+ T-cell count of ≥500 cells/mL, the CD4+ T-cell counts tended to be maintained at a particular level, with no difference between the two groups. The results show that the effect of TCM on the CD4+ T-cell counts of patients with HIV/AIDS is related to the CD4+ T-cell level at the time of initial treatment. TCM can increase the CD4+ T-cell count among patients with HIV/AIDS who have a baseline CD4+ T-cell count of <350 cells/mL. Sex and age have a slight influence on the therapeutic effect of TCM. Background. Esophageal carcinoma (ESCA) is not only a threat to people's health but also the sixth most common cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Methods. In this study, the key targets of ESCA are screened through GeneCards and DisGeNET databases combined with the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database (GSE1420 and GSE20347). Then, data associated with ESCA samples are downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database for integrated analysis. Moreover, the effect of epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) expression on the survival of patients with ESCA is evaluated by Kaplan–Meier and Cox analyses. The virtual screening is carried out using a Suflex-Dock molecular docking module. The chemical components, which have been well bound to EpCAM, are screened out based on a total score >5 as a threshold. Ginsenosides and EpCAM are analyzed by LigPlot + v.2.2 software to identify the binding sites. Results. Four ESCA targets are obtained from GeneCards, DisGeNET, and GEO databases. In this study, it is found that high EpCAM expression is associated with histologic grade, stage, patient age, N classification, T classification, and radiation therapy. The Kaplan–Meier curves for overall survival also show that the higher expression of EpCAM is associated with worse outcomes in patients with ESCA. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses indicate that EpCAM mRNA expression might be a useful biomarker for ESCA P < 0.05 . Molecular docking technology suggests that ginsenoside Rg3 and ginsenoside Rh2 can easily establish good docking modes and have a high affinity with EpCAM. The 6′-hydroxyl and 6″-hydroxyl on the 3-glycosyl of ginsenoside Rg3 are prone to form hydrogen bonds (Lys151 and Lys221) with the active sites of EpCAM ligand binding domain. The hydroxyl groups on the 12 sites of the ginsenoside Rh2 glycoside framework are found to have hydrogen bonding with Leu240. The formation of hydrogen bonds plays an important role in binding of ginsenoside Rg3 and ginsenoside Rh2 to EpCAM, as well as the stability of EpCAM conformation. Conclusion. EpCAM may be determined as a potential biomarker for early diagnosis and prognosis of ESCA. Ginsenoside Rg3 and ginsenoside Rh2 have potential antiesophageal cancer activities. Background. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been found to be effective for treating chronic severe functional constipation (CSFC). However, the initial effects of treatment usually affect the acceptability and compliance of patients with chronic disease in particular. Which class of CSFC patients will have a better initial response to EA remains uncertain and requires investigation. Methods. This was a secondary analysis of an original multicenter randomized controlled trial in which patients with CSFC were randomly assigned to receive 28 sessions of EA or sham electroacupuncture (SA) over 8 weeks with 12 weeks of follow-up. The primary outcome, namely, response with complete spontaneous bowel movements (CSBMs), required participants to have ≥ 3 CSBMs and an increase of ≥ 1 CSBM from the baseline over the first week of treatment. Logistic regression analysis with bootstrapping techniques was performed to determine independent factors related to the response. Results. A total of 1051 eligible patients were included in this study of whom 161 patients were classified as responders at week 1. The CSBM response rate was higher in the EA group (17.5%) than in the SA group (13.2%). And the proportion of these 1-week early responders remained to have higher clinical response at the end of 8-week treatment and 12 weeks after treatment. Age and higher baseline CSBMs were related to CSBM response within the first week: with every 1-year increase in age, the likelihood of clinical response was reduced by 1.7% (odds ratio [OR] 0.983, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.972 to 0.993; P=0.001). The odds of a CSBM response in patients with 1< CSBMs ≤ 2 at baseline were 4.64 times higher than that in patients with CSBMs ≤ 1 (OR 4.64, 95%CI 4.01 to 5.27). Conclusions. EA produced its initial effects within the first week of treatment. And the effects could last until week 8 and week 20. Herbal medicines have been used to prevent and cure diseases in eastern countries for thousands of years. In recent decades, these phytotherapies are becoming more and more popular in the West. As being nature-derived is the essential attribute of herbal medicines, people believe that taking them for diseases treatment is safe enough and has no side-effects. However, the efficacy of herbal resourced compounds (HRC) depends on the multiple constituents absorbed in the body and their pharmacokinetics. Thus, many factors will influence the clinical practice of HRC, i.e., their absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). Among these factors, herb-drug interaction has been widely discussed, as these compounds may share the same drug-metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters. Meanwhile there are many other potential factors that can also change the ADME of HRC, including herb pretreatment, herb-herb interactions, pathological status, gender, age of patient, and chemical and physical modification of certain ingredients. With the aim of ensuring the efficacy of HRC and minimizing their clinical risks, this review provides and discusses the influence factors and artificial improvement of the pharmacokinetics of HRC. We investigated the influence of socioeconomic factors (age, gender, and occupation) on the local knowledge of medicinal plants in the Araripe National Forest, Brazil, and the priority of conservation of the species as perceived by people. Additionally, priority species for in situ conservation were identified by calculating conservation priority (CP). Initially, free lists were developed with 152 informants in order to identify the plants known and used by them. Based on the most cited plants in these lists, a salience analysis was performed to identify the ten most prominent tree species. In a second moment, through a participatory workshop, these ten species were classified by the perception of local experts as to their environmental availability and intensity of exploitation. Then, the population size of the forest plant species was quantified through a phytosociological sampling and the conservation priority index (CP) of the species was calculated. A total of 214 ethnospecies were cited by the informants, which were identified in 167 species. Local knowledge was influenced by socioeconomic factors, with positive correlation between age and local knowledge and difference in knowledge among professions. Among the ten most prominent tree species in terms of their medicinal importance, Hancornia speciosa was highlighted as a priority for conservation in the experts' perception because it has low environmental availability and a high exploitation rate. The ten species were ordered by the CP differently from the ordering made by the local experts' perception, indicating that people's perception of species conservation status may not correspond to the actual situation in which they are found in the forests. Introduction. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the relationship between cold-heat patterns and body composition, anthropometric indices, blood parameters, and tongue features in Tae-Eum type subjects. We also sought to determine whether significant indicators could be used as risk factors for predicting cold-heat patterns in a clinic. Methods. This prospective, case-control pilot study was conducted at a single center. The subjects were males and females aged 19 years or older who had been analyzed as the Tae-Eum type. After screening, subject allocation was performed. The body composition, 11 anthropometric indices, blood parameters, and tongue features of the subjects were measured by well-trained practitioners. An independent t-test was conducted to compare the cold- and heat-pattern groups. Binary logistic regression was performed to determine significant differences between the two groups after adjusting for age, sex, and systolic blood pressure, with a focus on identifying significant indicators. Results. Eighty-nine participants were recruited, 39 of whom were excluded from the analysis. Ultimately, 20 cold-pattern and 30 heat-pattern subjects were included in the final analysis. We found that alanine aminotransferase and all anthropometric indices, except for neck and forehead circumference, were significant predictive factors in both groups according to the binary regression analysis. Additionally, the tongue body color in the cold-pattern group was significantly paler than that in the heat-pattern group. Conclusions. This study found that cold and heat patterns were significantly associated with body composition, anthropometric indices, blood parameters, and tongue features. We suggest that these factors could thus be used as objective indicators and predictors of cold-heat patterns. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of a hyperbaric environment alone on the cardiovascular system by ensuring elimination of factors that may mask the effect on hyperbaria. The research was performed in a hyperbaric chamber to eliminate the effect of physical activity and the temperature of the aquatic environment. Biochemical analysis and examination with the Task Force Monitor device were performed before and immediately after exposure. TFM was used for noninvasive examination of the cardiovascular system and the functional evaluation of the autonomic nervous system. Natriuretic peptides were measured as biochemical markers which were involved in the regulation of haemodynamic circulation vasoconstriction (urotensin II). L-arginine acted as a precursor of the level of the nitric oxide whereas angiotensin II and angiotensin (1–7) were involved in cardiac remodeling. The study group is comprised of 18 volunteers who were professional divers of similar age and experience. The results shown in our biochemical studies do not exceed reference ranges but a statistically significant increase indicates the hyperbaric environment is not without impact upon the human body. A decrease in HR, an increase in mBP, dBP, and TPR, and increase in parasympathetic heart nerves activity suggest an increase in heart afterload with a decrease in heart activity within almost one hour after hyperbaric exposure. Results confirm that exposure to a hyperbaric environment has significant impact on the cardiovascular system. This is confirmed both by changes in peptides associated with poorer cardiovascular outcomes, where a significant increase in the studied parameters was observed, and by noninvasive examination. Our previous study showed that the acupuncture stimulation on the acupoint (ST-36) could activate the brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF) signaling pathways in telomerase-deficient mice. Recently, we set out to investigate whether the manual acupuncture (MA) or electroacupuncture (EA) displays a therapeutic advantage on age-related deterioration of learning and memory. Both telomerase-deficient mice (Terc−/− group, n=24) and wild-type mice (WT group, n=24) were randomly assigned to 3 subgroups (CON, controls with no treatment; MA, mice receiving manual acupuncture; EA, mice receiving electric acupuncture). The mice were subjected to behavior test, and EA/MA were applied at bilateral acupoints (ST36) 30 min daily for 7 successive days. The brain tissues were collected after the last Morris water maze (MWM) test and were subjected to the immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis. The MWM test showed that EA can significantly increase the time in target quadrant (P≤0.01) and frequency of locating platform for Terc−/− mice (P≤0.05), while nothing changed in WT mice. Furthermore, western blotting and immunohistochemistry suggested that EA could also specifically increase the expression of TrkB and NF-κB in Terc−/− mice but not in wild-type mice (P≤0.05). Meanwhile, the expression level and ratio of ERK/p-ERK did not exhibit significant changes in each subgroup. These results indicated that, compared with MA, the application of EA could specifically ameliorate the spatial learning and memory capability for telomerase-deficient mice through the activation of TrkB and NF-κB.
