MOMENT OF MATISSE IT HAS been said that Matisse, rather than Picasso, was the most influential artist of the 20th century. One of the last things American painter Ellsworth Kelly did before he died in 2015 was to curate a show of Matisse prints; Matisse managed to influence everyone from the Abstract Expressionists through to "Colour Field" painter Kelly. Now, gallerist Bernard Jacobson, a favourite with David Bowie, has put his personal collection of Matisse prints on show, including the first and last ones the artist made. It's a permanent public installation — and the nests (pictured) have colourful texts across each, with a different question and answer format for each. badafair.com ART BENEATH YOUR FEET TRADING Words is an exhibition at the new London Dock development until April 30, where the art is under your feet. It's a typographic, floor-based installation by Gordon Young about the history of the area over 400 years. Commissioned by developer St George, the artwork lists the goods that went through London via the docks, including live elephants, right, and "bear's grease" (fat of the brown bear), widely believed to prevent hair loss. It's Young's first London-based work and he describes it as "a poetic representation of this immense tide of things from all over the globe which happened to accumulate in this spot in east London". Home in on the House WHERE better to make your mark than the House of Commons? The Museum of Empathy comes to Parliament on October 31 until November 4 showing off "A Mile in My Shoes". Launched in 2015, the Empathy Museum is the first arts space that travels round the world in a box: it takes a form people recognise (a shop) and turns it into an experience. This version has been developed with the Health Foundation, and can be found in the Upper Waiting Hall, where you'll be given someone else's shoes and some headphones offering a description of their life.
